Elementos' DsL Showcase! (Finally)
« on: November 12, 2013, 05:13:17 PM »
Hey er'body.

I'm gonna post some of my most recent bots from DSL, feel free to comment and suggest any improvements and the like.

First up, as I mentioned it earlier, (and it looks pretty :3) XD :

J MC - GREGORY

Oh did I forget to mention...

This is one of of the two bots I may be entering into my tourney if it gets to sign-ups.

Next, is the other one..

HURRMENURRRR

A Firestorm inspired backwards flipper, (hence the flames) Is most probably what I will be entering...Still not sure but it's not even near sign-ups yet so meh.

*For some reason, my editing program doesn't like red writing very much, so it smudges here, (Being partially Red-Green colourblind, I don't really either XD)

Hope you guys enjoy/can give some constructive (if that's the correct word to use) criticism.  :thumbup

Less empty space, please.

Otherwise, good component use. Apart from maybe the spike strips on that popup, although spike strips are usable I guess.

The general rule with Ant Batteries is one ant per spin motor. With Burst Motors on the other hand, you should really be using the amount instructed.

ONE TO TWO ANTS PER SPIN MOTOR!!!! GAHHH!!!!
The amount of batteries are fine, but you could sacrifice some ants for athstetics and for some motor protection on the first.
Oh I'll be doing some banging.......

Okay, I took in some of the advice given, and I have tried to use some of the ideas to make this:

Black Tips

*Note that the spikes don't cut through the perm even though they look like they do, I checked and there is a slight gap in between.

Hope you guys like,

Two more bots coming soon.

you could put the perm on a multiextender so that you could get a larger disc (as in one of those black 100cm discs, my favorite type of tose is the hallowed version.), and thus you could get more weaponry.
it should also be noted that NPC motors have weird collision meshes when it comes to putting them inside the chassis, as you can have them sticking halfway outside of the back. the only part that really collides with the chassis is around the axles.
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

What's with the crappy weapon setup ? Use weapons with more reach else other weapons will hit your drum component first and therefore risk ripping it off before the teeth go out.

also make it less tall and invertible, it's a sitting duck if inverted at the moment.

Not Gregory, it's not Scottish enough. Use either Gregor as a forename, or McGregor as a surname.

Also, tons of overkill on the ants. 1 ant per spin motor, bro.

You fixed nothing about this bot. If you aren't gonna take this thread seriously it's not worth posting in it.

It is not wise to test my patience either. I'm helping you and you spit on my advice ? What the hell ?

I'm pretty sure he does not understand English well.

He said this in his showcase:

hi
I'm from Argentina I speak Spanish and do not understand your question
Not to rip on him for that, but I digress.

As for the bot... do you know how to make a chassis minimum height? All you need to do is click the very bottom pixel of the height slider when adjusting your chassis height/shape of the top of the chassis. A Perm-80 can fit in a minimum height chassis given that the chassis has the right horizontal dimensions to fit the perm. That way, the spinner can be invertible without using large wheels.

Of course, you don't have to put the perm inside of the chassis, and given the length of the EL perms, it wouldn't really be in your best interest. Just mount it on a multi-extender (the small red and black ones) The right and left NPC-T64's, as previously stated, have strange collision meshes (the surface of the space that the game considers as "solid") that allow them to poke out of the back of the chassis while still being mounted on the baseplate. Kinda like this:

(An older build of my MW hammer Slammerfist.)

Notice how the NPCs are sticking out of the back of the chassis. This can't be done in DSL3 (CURSES!), but it is one of the most useful quirks of DSL2 and is often used in standard DSL building.

Do this alongside everything else we have suggested (except Davidyamy) and you shall go far.

Thanks for all of the help guys, glad some of you are actually taking this seriously. I will try to modify all the bots posted and should be posting the tomorrow but it's really late here in the UK (Well I guess you could say early as it's past midnight) and so I will have to sleep.

Okay, after some planning and a total overhaul and rebuild, (even shortened the chassis a tad)

I present to you,

Black Tips 2.0 (I forgot to change the name but oh well)

In my opinion, this is way better than the previous one and I am glad you guys helped me to make this.
*It actually runs both ways up and doesn't spin around on the blade if I leave it!

Also: here are some other angles of it.

If you are wondering why the panic skirt is on the back, it helps stabilise it as it is quite front heavy and also protects the slightly exposed NPCs.

Hope you guys like, and feel free to comment any more improvements etc.
