Eishiba's DSL showcase
« on: August 01, 2012, 02:34:07 PM »
I am opening this show case in hopes of getting tips on how to make this spinning bot stronger. The bot isn't terrible I guess but it doesn't really hold up against Grog. The only thing good about it is that the spinner spins up quickly. It has the duel perm motor with the son of whyatchi blade and 3 of the dsl #4 hammers at the end. I gave it two of the super big batties cause I figured it would need alot of power to get the blades to run for a while. I don't expect the bots mobility to be fast so it is using the tiny pig motors. Ideas? Please.

Piglet motors don't make good drive motors, and it can be powered by 3-4 ant batteries. I say you should look at some other showcase to get some ideas.

never use piglet motors for drive as they are spin motors, motors only need 1 ant battery each to last a full 3 minute fight, make your chassis as small as possible, npc motors with hypno disc or vlad wheels are good for drive, those large batteries are useless and just waste weight. sorry if this is too much information too quickly

  • So, for every spin motor (Motor that goes around, burst motors have a linear swinging motion) you need 1 ant battery.
  • Piglets are weapon motors, not drive motors. You could use the NPCs or any any motor with 'Drive' in it's nam
  • Build to the weight limit, always (800 for HW, 399 for MW, 249 for LW). Make sure you're within 10 for that, at least.
  • And always make the chassis as small as possible, so that all the components only just fit in.
Have fun in GTM!

Damn, you're good at sweet talk :P
But that's the advice I'd give. I'd also try and get some armour underneath (if you try halfsheets, they have an attachment point that would let you mount it on the bottom of your chassis.

Whats so bad about pig motors being used as drive motors? The bot doesn't need to be fast.

Spin motors and drive motors have different properties for torque, acceleration etc. You could probably use the lighter Astroflights and you'd be better off.

When you say underneath do you mean actually underneath your robot where the wheels are? Or do you mean just the bottom edge of the robot?

He means on the actual chassis, if you use the center attachment point on a half sheet it will attach to the bottom of the chassis and be invincible

When you say half sheet do you mean the polycarbonate and titanium and steel skirts? I don't see anything called a half sheet.

Extras>Ram Plate>Half Sheet

There's an attachment point in the middle of the sheet that you can use to attach it to the baseplate.

Interesting. Under what circumstance would the pc545 and 565 batteries be used? Ive been using those in alot of my robots just cause they have alot of output.

I assume you mean the orange and tall ones. Orange ones are pretty much never used, tall ones are only really used to power Beta Burst motors. ALL spin motors need one ant to fully power it for three minutes (most matches are that length), from Piglets and Copals to E-Teks and Dual Perms.

Hmm cause I have another robot with two lift snapper motors, two of the big e tek drive motors(not the one with the extended axle) and 6 piglett motors to power one 4 of the 100 cm saw blades and 2 of the 80 cm saw blades and I have 3 of the 545 batteries in it.

Lift snapper? i assume that you are using lift burst in cheatbot2.
I think you need battery power of 2 mag snappers and 8 ants (1 tall one aka 565 IIRC)

Now this robot has been flamed before on here so heres the rules, your only allowed to flame it if you give some real feed back other than "it sucks" but how come I can't get I get the half sheets any further to the front of the robot underneath? And do I really need all 3 of those batteries?

1) you need at least 7 ant batteries for the spin motors
2) replace the mag snappers with bsg bursts and throw in another 5 ants
3)replace the fatboys with techno destructo wheels or overkill wheels

3)replace the fatboys with techno destructo wheels or overkill wheels

1. The math doesn't add up to me. To me, it seems I only need one 545 battery rather than a bunch of ant batteries. Each 545 weighs 25KG and and puts out rounded up, 48 amps. The ant battery weighs rounded up 7 KG and puts out 10 amps. For the ant battery to reach the same 48 amp output you will have to have 4.8 batteries. Ill round down to 4 batteries to keep decimals out. With 4 ant batteries they will together weigh 28 KG and they aren't quite hitting the 48 amp mark since I rounded down and already outweigh the 545 battery. Am I missing something? Why use the ant battery over the 545? I know the ants can stack on each other in a very confined space but thats the only thing I can come up with.

2. I tried the BSG burst motors but they have extenders atttached to them which is mostly to turn the bot over when being flipped or in the event that the opponent clearly doesn't function upside down, then i can flip him, which these motors can't do but the mag snapper does.

3. The over kill wheels make me much much faster but brings the front end up upon acceleration...my weapons aren't exactly on the bottom of the robot xD and the technodestructo wheels are smaller and leave the nose of the wedge angled up, again, the weapons aren't on the bottom of the robot. I usually just slide under someone and let the saws grind the opponent while I keep steering along with him on the wedge.
