Title: Eh, my showcase
Post by: Ice the frosty cat on October 31, 2008, 03:48:56 AM
Finally made a showcase; my robots aren't all that great which has put me off making one, but I might as well.
This is Frazzle 2, a remake of one of my first spinners.
Pros: It can still spin upsidedown
Cons: Its weapon breaks to easily and doesn't cause enough damage
Anyone know what I should replace them with?

You've got weight left over and there are some way better weapons that you could have used (hammers are best).
What are the front wheels for?
If you don't need them, remove them. That will allow you to reduce the chassis size and add better batts (orange). That will give you even more weight to utilise.

EDIT: You should swap the generic tribar for a whyachi one. It's stronger

i swear the drive you're using is a weapon motor? put in some smaller drives then take off the front two wheels. After that you should be able to put in orange batts (as h@zm47 said) for the weapons see if you can put one of the dsl hamers on. heavier the better

Yeah, those are weapon motors. I was trying to make a spinner with decent mobility (most of my HS' are quite sluggish)
The extra wheels are for balance sake, but I guess I don't really need them.
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a good workover after lunch

Use drive E-teks.

Ok, I was having problems getting the weight up, so I downgraded the armour and removed a battery or two made it into my first decent Middleweight.

Very true, and the chassis could be MUCH MUCH smaller.

i know you have probly heard this 1000000 times but Urjak is right try to make the chassis to fit your bots internals not fit your internals in your chassis. this gives you better wight management ergo you have more wight for your wep and drive systems. i myself go thrugh about 6 to 10 vers for each bot before i post it. its not that i have to, i just fix all the problems i can each, unfortunatly i always make new problems each ver. lol. the reason i do this is so when i post it i will get more in depth fixes. the more you do this the better you will get.

I hate it when you fix a problem like not enough weapons or you shrink the chassis and the bot becomes a black hole of suckiness forever.

Here's Cyber-swish
(http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c173/link3908/Cyberswish.png)
Generic design, but meh =/

Strengths: Speedy for a VS and can Oota robots occasionally
Weaknesses: Balance bars break easily

Otherwise good, but the other disc goes trough the weapon motor.

Maybe a wee bit over-powered...
Cool paintjob.

Way better than your previous bots; although there are many things you can do to gain weight-removing all these ant batts, a better chassis, better extender work rather than these angled connectors.

use a muti-extender instead of the base anchor and then attc. steel extender off the side ap. this will make you front bars stornger.

Thanks for the criticism guys ^_^
I've got another robot to showcase as well
Dolphin 4
(http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c173/link3908/Dolphin4.png)
The idea for this came about when I noticed how often robots went straight over robots, giving them a perfect chance to attack from the rear. Dolphin 4 combats this problem with two Vlad spikes which drill into robots while stopping them from flying over, with the large discs grinding away as well. The spikes also act as a srimech, by ramming spike-first into the wall, but in arenas where it's possible to be Oota'd, it can often throw itself out in the process

again, realistic rules does not apply, anyway, there's a good idea behind this bot.

Cyber-Swish weapons=FAIL. Get more durable weapons.

On Cyber-Swish, use Techno Destructo wheels instead. I really like the idea of Dolphin 4, but I'm not sure about the hypno teeth and its wedges. I'd consider upgrading the teeth to something else.

QFT. Their only problem is that they can't throw other robots around.

Although it is a good thing for a grinder like this.

As I'm too lazy to showcase any more robots, I decided to make a video instead, to do it all for me :D

I like Draculerse's skin.

Btw, TWM3R2s are bad for drive.

How many flippers are on HACE (havnt a clue either)

I'm sure we can all agree that Skurge needs much improvement. Well, I agree, so I completely rebuilt 'em.
I didn't quite use up all the space or weight, but eh, it's a work in progress, and empty space can be excused in a wedge, I'm sure xD

Fill up the weight with better armor or something like that

Use better tires

What are the arms, I can't see them.

Whoops, used the wrong screenshot for the internals >.<
But meh, it's pretty much the same as the original's, except with Iron spikes instead of Spike Strips

it's better, but i 'm not sure you should go far in a tourney  with that bot yet.

first, like Naryar likes to tell it, avoid black battery.

Second, smasher (horizontal  burst motor) are very hard to build as deadly bot : compare to whipper (those which turns on themselve) they give hardest beat but so less often that they can't expect much victory.

Third, if you look at bots like 'enfilad'  (bbean) or deprivator (raw), you will see that they have much more weapons attached to there burst motor, each strike is thus more deadly.

So, how to do a good smasher ? well i don't know !

why not suggesting to ACAM a "BOT of the month "on this subject : heavy horizontal smasher : maybe we will see good innovation ?

what you should do to improve your bot is to raise weapon on its top (see
Psycho sweepr of Urjak in BBEan 4),  once you will  be under a bot, -> it will be hurt by these vertical weapons and  it should not escape while you cut its wheels with  your lateral strikes :  this is the idea of infernal contraption which forbiden any escape once it holds a bot.

anyway, i like you paint job.

Techno Destructo wheels would be better, I think.
Lower ground clearence & better grip.

I would go with some weapon motor guards, and also, it would have to be a DSL BOTM, because either Frag Beetle or Vise would win a stock one.

Post by: Naryar on February 23, 2009, 02:08:51 PM
-Paintjob is cool
-Better management of space = :D
-N-20's suck. Indeed, Techno Destructo's. (it'll be really fast though)
-WP836E's suck. Plus, the bot is underpowered (do not underpower bots with active burst motors) and looks like it has low battery power. I'd go with 4 battlepacks and 4 ants.
-The 41kg of rear armor would be more useful as better chassis armor IMO (titanium is the best, then plastic)
-You can put a double metal hinge wedge on that, or maybe even a single snapper wedge.

Mmm, but the back was a bit weak spot on the previous version though. I'll see what I can do though =)
