I wanted to build a bot, able to win against Critical Emergency. It took some time to figure out, how to go under it. The rest was easier. Mainly I tryed to do more damage than CE does.
Here is Taged Toolbox. It's a HW pop up and in fact smaller than CE.
4 NPC fast with micro wheels, 4 mag snappers, 12 iron spikes, 10 battle packs.

And this is the match result.

Looks good. Insides?
-
Yep!
But, for keeping secret "my most recent and highly genious" designs, I can offer only this view of the bot.
"Big brother Venko" is watching me, you know.

Excuse me, I couldn't resist to this joke.
Here are the insides.
There is in fact nothing special, except the wheels on the NPCs are the smallest type possible. This results in nearly zero ground clearance and makes it harder for other bots to under it.
The battle packs are stacked 2x3 and 2x2. Mag snappers 1 and 4 are in end position, to have a better view. The NPCs are sligthly overlapped in the middle of the bot, making the chassis a bit narrower.

Since i decided to sign in for the next BBEANS, I try to make a decent MW. I don't know how it comes, but they allways come out as HWs. :(
I don't think this will be the one, I will use vor the contest, but at least it does meet the realistic rule. Even it drives well inverted, it's not really invertible, because his disc is to far off the ground in upside down position. It needs a wall or any obstacle to selfright.
(http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/2626/ocm2qo4.png) (http://imageshack.us)
I don't know if Biohazard is a reference. However, OCM was not able to destroy it, but the difference in damage is promising.
(http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1876/ocm1da4.png) (http://imageshack.us)
I was not sure about the protection, but it seems to be extraordinary resistant.
And as usual, some venkoism:
The inside picture is not provided, since there is nothing special to show there. Exept the never seen before, very secret stacked battle packs. Please look at the absolutely genious design of the chassis, like the letter M for Mixer.
-
Huh. Your weapons are too fragile. And look at that long steel extender... he is easily breakable.
I'll use a shorter extender, allowing for some more protection, make all the design more compact and make him an undercutter (putting a tortoise sheel plate instead of that typhoon spike)
However, i LOVE the visual.
-
i would say enter that into the bot of the month for DSL MW (if the pattern goes, it will be next)

Ok I din't test it very longtime, but the extender didn't get broken yet.
What the heck is a tortoise sheel plate and where can I find it? I was looking for something shorter, but couldn't find anything.
Btw, the typhoon spike does a little damage too, how about the tortoise sheel plate?
To Sage: No I will not do that.
-
It is the small dark hexagonal piece of steel, i think it is on extras. It doesnt makes a lot of damage but, it could make an undercutter,... with a disc big enough (ill suggest the 100cm) and some spikes on it, and placed very close to the ground, you could get under most frontal weapons and touch the chassis/wheels.
-
It's under extenders, actually.
I think that would help.
-
Thanks. I will check it out, if I can get that to work well, this could be a possible candidate for BBEANS.
I made allready some type of undercutter, but it's kind of tricky to use it, because it tend to turn away as soon it is under the other bot. To offend this I gave him a helping hand.
Btw, its on a snapper, to be used as a srimech as well. However this design might be funny, but not satisfactory.

Meanwhile I have another soup on the fire, that might be ready to be tasted soon.

HAHA! This is pure French! Yep, I know, it's not easy to use English expressions when you're not a native English speaker... same for me, but this one was really obvious.
(he actually means that he is making another robot design)
I like your undercutter design. But if i were you, ill make him invertible, cause that srimech must weigh something like 50 kg, perhaps a lottle more, and if you count the battery to make him function, that makes 65.
So, I'll just put the NPC64's a little higher, use bigger wheels (something lof the size of the Vlad wheels would be enough), and finally use metal skirts, perhaps attached diagonally (each to a black and red multi extender), to make a frontal V shape, and try to trap the other bots, without mentioning that this would give you a little more side defense. An certainly it will be lighter.
And normally, if you make a good undercutter, invertibily is not a big problem cause you strike popups too with your weapon. Oh, and yeah, an undercutter is not supposed to be under the other bot, if then you make very few damage. It is supposed to be perhaps a little less than 1cm above the ground. I have to admit it's tough, but pretty rewarding.

Soup: I made actually allution to my forum avatar Cooker (an automatic cooker from the first adventure of Wallace & Gromit: "A great day out", for those who didn't know).
The extender is not only a srimech, but it is there, to stop my bot from drifting away sidewards, as soon it hits another bot.
Venkoism: This arm is a very cool and never seen before, absolutely new invention of my genious myself and you are only jalous because it was not you who found it.
Edit: You may not copy it, unless you ask my permission first!
-
I'm thinking about making a rectangular asymetric dustpan (built with skirts) at the side where your Clepblade is spinning, so then the Clepblade will deflect bots towards it, block them in there and still rip on them. And you could add a wheel for the anti-drifting. But suit yourself.
Huh. Could do better : a true Venkoism is that:
This arm is VERY VERY VERY good, unique by me and with it i beat all DSL MWs !!!!!!
It is self-righting mechanism never seen before. So if you copy this bot, you are LOSER
cause it means your bots are lame, and if you fight with my bot they die in 1 touch...
It is brilliant idea but this bot is worse to my VERY VERY VERY secret bots !!!! and very good too! But i will not show to you! Cause they are so good you will copy me... so...
And read CAREFULLY my post before answer !!

Remember what you say? : "Big brother Venko" is watching you all.
But you know that big brother can watch, but can expel from THE HOUSE too...
Translate : enough jokes for my address, or i will turn the medal on his back side and you will sorry this time...
About my "SECRET" bots..., you will see them in S4 so dont worry...Oh NO...DO WORRY, 'cos you will lose a lot...
-
Expel from the house? What are you even talking about?
O.K. man, we'll see if you enter into Starcore 4. The level is WAY harder than S3, just to make you know... because S3 has... something like 3 years, and the techniques have improved a lot...
-
HAHA! This is pure French! Yep, I know, it's not easy to use English expressions when you're not a native English speaker... same for me, but this one was really obvious.
So.... Talking about soup is French? It made sense to me....

My latest creation:
Eight Shape
HW 800 kg (exactly), NPC-T64 fast for drive, Tornado Mer Gearbox for weapon, 4 battle packs, one servo piston (can slide the tornado forward out), steel armor 1mm, invertable.
(http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/5214/eightshape2iy7.png) (http://imageshack.us)
Silly chassis. Isn't it? I should maybe call it Lamborghini, but its not that fast.
I will not post the inside. I'm sure most of you will know how I made it. ;)
It turrns a bit yerky, but drives quite well.
-
Nice chassis. I'm assuming it can barely turn at all. I like it:D
-
Feh. Turning is for squares. Like invertability.

It can turn. I found a trick how to do it. You have to incline the botom plate slightly.
The chassis looks like this. The bottom is on the right side (the back of my bot).
/--------------------/
This way is established, the bottom is still clearly facing down and therefor the bot can turn. The problem is only the fact, you can only direct attach components into the space vertically up from the base. You cannot direct attach items, in the part of the chassis, that is hanging over. But you can make a chassis with some complex forms.
And, (ahem) you need to make sure the bot will not fall to the wrong side, when it get dropped in the arena, because it will be (ahem) placed vertically too (bottom is allways down (of course))(ahem).
The reason why it turns hard, is rather the weight in front. In his earlier state, turning was easier. It then had only around 650kg, without steel armor and protections on.
-
Well the bot looks cool. The asymmetry of the top armor somehow makes it more cool.
Are you Polinator? I seem to remember he was from France.
-
The top armor is a defence against hammers. The front skirts, the front bumper, the side protection and the top armor are attached all together on one single hinge each side.
You got it.

During making some tests, in order to find some good concepts for my BBEANS entry, I tested some old designs, we did some years ago. Again the same story: what should be a MW ended up to be a HW. Buhuhuu. :(
Mace Mincer:
A real VS/HS hybrid.
NPC fast for drive, 1 perm 80 (hoizontal) and 2 npc fast (vertical on a disc) for weapon, 12 maces on trybars, 2 orange batts, titanium armor.
But the concept is promising enough to be posted anyway. At least Behemoth did not appreciate the encounter. I was not able to destroy it completely, but his parts are spread out all over the arena and it had only one wheel left. You can see the rest of the chassis of Behemoth in the left side.
This is only a raw form and it still has some flaws. It has some stability problems and tends to get out of control sometimes.
(http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/1360/macemincerta6.png) (http://imageshack.us)
I will post more pics once it is debuged.
-
Looks like it has 2 vertical tribars rotating on a disc. Pretty clever, it gives the vertical weapons more momentum when they hit.
I'm afraid it would be hard to make that design legal for BBEANS with the realistic rule, though. Possible, but hard.
-
Anyway, I didn't find a way, to get it under better control. I see also no way, to make it a MW.
-
Hey, this looks good! I figured how you built it after some brain digging, but that is original.
I do belive it is possible to make him realitisic, but with a chassis with empty space. For making him a MW, you will probably have to give up the twin maces and use less powerful motors.
-

It is not original. There was a time, many others of this type were showcased in RA2 original stock version. I just did some kind of a revival.
Btw, all of them were HW. A MW version would be in fact new and could be called "original", especially if it would be realistic. But it will be tricky, because of the big rotating masses, that cause the bot to lift up sidewards while turning. A big problem allready in the HW version. It has to be flat and wide and it needs a srimech, to counter act the "just another friggin bouncing ball" effect (your words), once it is upside down. Are you still in the mood to try that?
-
Are you sure it wasn't "freakin"? XD
Actually I was thinking of another design (3 classic VS weapons, perfectly vertical) but all attached to a horizontal spinning tribar.
Or even wilder, a MW complex vertical spinner, but that thing would be huge and insanely unstable. Not to include difficult to fit in the MW division. But I do believe this thing would be original and gets insane hits for a middleweight.
I did an Alien Queen DSL rebuild with two spinners consisting of each 2 60kg hammers on a 150cm disc, powered by Tornado Mer gearboxes. Very unstable (same somersaulting as S3's Alien Queen), but did my damage record at 9200 points with this bot.
But I could try to rebuild that thing. I actually do want to make something original, or at least rarely seen, for BBEANS 4.
