Cool, it's like the same bot, but one's a VS and one's an HS.

I like the VS the most.  It would be great if you could angle the plows in a V shape to trap spinners, like Ordo Malleus in BBEANS.

By the way. How you made the wheels bank like that on the Dialect? They are bit banked, aren't they?

Weedy, there just rotated, its simple really

I did the same thing to see how my bot would fare against it. Mine definitley didn't do that much damage though.
Title: Apple's Showcase
Post by: Clickbeetle on January 11, 2007, 08:39:28 PM
That's not exactly a Blue Moon clone.  Blue Moon has a downward-facing bar with no ground contact so it can easily hit bots that are under it.  Disturbance is more like TuniT 3 with external wheels.  And fortunately not legal in BBEANS

Why don't you give it bigger wheels so it can be invertible?  Techno wheels are good, but so are a lot of other big wheels.

And Jules, it's only getting 10000+ damage hits because it's hitting another powerful spinner.  It would be a lot lower if it hit a regular target.

Kudos CB, first person to notice that! yeh i did realise but i thought that a 15000 hit was pretty cool in its own right

I noticed that but wasn't so sure was it really hitting the spinner or not. I also noticed it but I just didn't meantion about it.

Two New Bots!

1 - ICC - My attempt at a starcore stylee DSL bot

2 - Kimya - built it today, i really like it, went schizo with the armour, which is alsways good, it took about 20mins to find a shrimech that worked though, damn things just go through the floor half the time

Post by: Clickbeetle on February 09, 2007, 08:13:33 PM
So how effective is ICC?  Bots with single spinners are, in theory, better than bots with tons of small spinners, but I wonder if that's true in practice.

Kimya looks like a certain other bot whose name rhymes with bee-yeast.  I'd try getting rid of the srimech and making it invertible though.

Some BAttle shots of the last two bots and my newest FBS killer

ICC only lost 1 tribar, which is unusual

Nice bots indeed. I have few bots too and I should post them here but I just haven't.

Also I have ran out of GOOD ideas ages ago. But seems you haven't and those look nice.  :D  And original.

Aha, New Boot, this is an upgrade of one of my older FBS's, its a servo mounted FBS, three versions (narrowed down) they all perform well, but i dont know which to include for my pack

MK1 looks the best.  A dual perm on a servo is just madness.

I agree with clickbeetle, thats a great collection of bots you have there. just one question though, does MK1 have problems hitting its opponents because it doesn't look like the hammers have a very good reach. So for weapons i think i'll recommend MKllll :D .
Title: Apple's Showcase
Post by: Barbie on March 29, 2007, 02:26:36 PM
I went with the spikes, i was testing against MOE, whom of course is slow, as soon as you hit MKI with any force it gets completely destabalized.
Title: Apple's Showcase
Post by: Jet-speed on March 29, 2007, 03:55:43 PM
also with MK1 because of the heavier weights if one gets knocked off, i should imagine it throws the bot around the arena because of the lack of balance and the the fact that the Dual Perm is one heck of a motor :D

Post by: Barbie on July 22, 2008, 10:39:26 AM
Hey everybody! i've been back into building a bit recently, first bots i've built in a long time, anywho, thought i'd show them off to you! In reply to Naryars question, sadly the pack was all but lost in a harddrive crash, however, i did send goose a very up to date version a couple months before i lost it, i'm hoping he still has it somewhere! otherwise i'm in for alot of work again!
Comments pweeze

First up is Nurse, she may not look like that much but she works awesomely, its extremely hard to take her parts of as they all have huge HP values, and the chassis is so far away from the front of the bot which is always helpful, she runs of 2 stacked bats and all attachments (excluding plow) are on her "hat" Class-HW

Then theres another new bot, a rammer, it hits pretty hard, and can knock most bots out with two or three hits (yet to get a 1HKO yet) the only thing that im not so happy with is that it isn't invertible, good thing is its not that prone to flipping over, its pretty stable considering its immense speed (i used the new uber fast things from DSL2.1) Class-HW

Finally, heres a bot i rejected for BBEANS, its pretty decent and can beat the majority of bots through sheer flail, but its pushed around too easily for my liking. Class-MW

Thanks!

Post by: Sage on July 22, 2008, 01:59:06 PM
wow. for the rammer, couldn't you use a different armor for the front (maybe more weps?) so it would be invertible? and the BBEANS reject looks pretty underpowered....

Nurse looks like it should be pretty destructive.

Post by: infiniteinertia on July 22, 2008, 10:37:31 PM
Nurse looks solid for nonrealism standards.

the rammer I dont understand what so ever.

The MW COULD be solid, just i dont know why you dont use 2 mags, even if you servo enhance them. then you could go with 4wd or more batteries or at least SOMEthing.
Title: Apple's Showcase
Post by: Clickbeetle on July 22, 2008, 11:06:18 PM
Nasty bots all.  I agree that Tetrax could probably be made invertible with a few simple tweaks.

I have Go Betty Go on my computer since that was Barbie's original entry.  And I can say that it's tougher than it looks.  It actually has four ant batteries (still underpowered but a lot better than two) and that blade hits HARD.  Like Barbie said though, the main problem is that it gets pushed around a lot, and it's so powerful that it often flips itself on a hit.  The weight of those wheel guards could be put to better use, I think.  Perhaps for some sort of additional stability, or a srimech, or extra batteries.
Title: Apple's Showcase
Post by: infiniteinertia on July 23, 2008, 10:30:40 AM
how heavy are those wheelguards? I dont feel like opening my game and i know the Panic Attack ones are like 5kg...Saving weight for grippier wheels could be a good bet too.

New bot time!

ok, so i got the idea for this bot whilst watching one of my old (bad) drummers running upside down and being far more affective that way, and i got the idea that maybe you can have a bot that is more effective when wedged, and then came the along this contraption

Fancy A Stroll?

its an 799.5kg tank type bot, ita probably been done before, but i've decided to patent the design and call it a "Stroppy Tank" due to the fact its most effective when its jumping around on top of things (also the name of FACs prototype, the traction on this thing is crazy, the drums are servo driven from thos giant motors (i forget the name, but they're clearly visable), the less vigilant amongst you may be thinking "But barbie, where does the traction come from, doesn't it just bounce around, it has no wheels, instruct us oh mighty one?" see those grey stripes on the drums, there actually tires, also attached to the motor, i selected the wheel that is slightly bigger than the drum so it gets traction but all but conceals the wheels. Its not really great in battle, it never KO's bots, but if it can last out a battle it tends to win on points.

Finally, a crawler that gets good traction.  That's the bane of most crawler bots.  I have to question the wedge in front, though... don't you WANT bots to get under you?  Now if the drums were a bit higher up so they could hit bots on top of it as well as underneath... THAT would be something.  Maybe it could also be invertible.
Title: Apple's Showcase
Post by: Barbie on August 08, 2008, 08:57:09 AM
its not a wedge, its mainly to stop the damn thing rolling with the sheer acceleration of the thing, i shall start working on the invertible thing, it shouldn't be too difficult me thinks

Edit*

Done! and a new bot i threw together just for the fun of it

Well, it's been almost nine months since my last post :s
and so i have a few bots to showcase, a few are my new builds, and a couple i built before my return, all comments and tips are appreciated!

Extraordinart Machine & Spark: for a long time i've been trying to build a version of Red Red Red for myself, but as of yet, i can't seem to make a great one, EM was built before i left, and Spark since i've been back, both decent, not sure if i've bettered RRR yet though :(

Mydr: before you ask, no, it isn't called My Doctor, Mydr is a welsh word (which is where i live now, yay) This was built the other day, my attempt at a juggler, and i have to say, it's been very promising, took a long time to get everything right so i hope you guys like it!

Barber Shop Flop 2: a remake of a very old bot i had, pretty affective in battle KOs very quickly, however, there is a problem with it's AI, it just drives into walls every now and again and refuses to move until something rams it, so hopefully someone with better AI knowlage than me can tell me what the kahoonas thats about

FISH!: yeah, it's just a joke bot, but i like it :)

EM: I really like the look and it looks effective, but cheat motors (>_<), and it looks a little underpowered. But I still love the design.

Spark: Looks good, exept 30 kg ramplates stink, (they have waaay less hitpoints than they say in the descripion) but other than that looks good.

Mydr: I really don't know much about Jugglers, so I'll let Nary go from there.

BSF2: Pretty wacky (but neat) design. What's powering the grinder? I like a lot.

Fish: XP

Wow. A self-righting juggler. :O

*worships*

But the drive is kinda weak for a HW, though. Try ditching the 4 static razors and use Techno wheels instead.

ooopd, sorry wrong EM, that was the prototype, i'll update it shortly.

hypno wheels are awesome? they're the quickest and grippiest of the small wheels. i chose them over technos mainly for the control factor.

BSF2 is powered by TWMs, not the fastest, but they do the job.

20kg black batts suck in DSL 2.1. Just check the txt's.

Also your popup and juggler (that has some slight resemblance to one of mine) are too slow, and yes you don't need the static razors neither the ramplate on top because they probably won't touch the opponent..
