Post by: markman798 on May 04, 2014, 03:35:46 PM
So i just started practicing building in DSL, and currently i am trying to make a good spinner. Here is the best I have made so far:(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/71208New DSL Robot.png)

Okay, lots to improve on here but once you have you'll have a pretty mean bot :)

1) For batteries, you can use just 1 ant battery per spin motor. Bursts need the required amps in their description, but for this bot you could use just 5 ant batteries.
2) It's very large. Shrink the chassis down to use the weight somewhere else.
3) Piglet motors are great for lower weightclasses, but you'll want something much bigger for this. Try a Perm or even a Dual Perm.

Ford wheels aren't very good, I think you're the first person to have used them in quite some time. I'd recommend Overkill or Techno Destructo wheels.

Now i've improved the bot. It now looks like this: (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/16020Inside.png)
The inside: (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/65863New DSL Robot.png)
also I just changed the wheels before i read the comment about them
it can also still operate upside down

Overkill wheels.
Get a load of this guy.

HW (assuming this is a heavyweight) horizontal spinners don't need anything more than 2 wheel drive NPC fast with techno wheels. You will likely need less than that if you want more weapons.

Just so you know, it is completely possible to make that chassis less than a tenth of how huge it is now. Just have a trapezoid, 3 ant batteries on top of each other, and a control board on the very top.

Then you will be able to have bottom protection. Go to extras and find the "halfsheet" component. If you select a certain attachment point (somewhere around the middle), you should be able to use it as near-invincible armor.

You can protect your top by using a multi extender slightly offset from the middle and two 40cm poly/aluminum/titanum (not steel, because thats generally overkill) sheets. The HS disc should do a good job protecting the top though if its large enough.
If you need an example, here's a bot I made a few weeks ago:

NPC fasts, PL5, 4 ants, shortest poly sheets at the back.
(mine has 4 ants, which is why the control board is off to the side like that. I also used the "left" and "right" versions of the npc motors so that they could stick out of the chassis like that. Keep in mind that the left and right npcs have different collision with the chassis, because QUALITY.)

I would put go for 2 wheels
Would make the chasi smaller and more compact
And i wouldent use a extender to hold my weapon i case it snaps.
i would make the weapon motor inside of the chassi whit the powerfull motor you can just put something that makes the disc to wiggel the bot when it upside down and you can rigth youself whit the disc

Basically, I added armor all over the robot. I'll just leave the bot as an attachment because it is kind of hard to show using only 1 or 2 pictures

if you are going for effectiveness over looks you could use dsl bars for the spinner
but i think it will probably look better like this

Well basically, the robot looks like an armadillo now: (https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/82430New DSL Robot.png)
It now has wide ram plates surrounding it with the disc protecting the top

I think you got the wrong impression - you could make that top disc spin and get rid of the other one and have 1 large spinning disc covering the entire body.

You don't need ramplates. Just have a disc be large enough to go over the wheels.

disc is unnecessarily large
