Title: Wierd robot (Shouldnt be possible)
Post by: lapinskism on October 03, 2011, 09:42:02 PM
I made a robot that ran with an idea i got from one of the bbean's robots. It has no motherboard or power of any kind, its completely stock parts, but it still flails around.

I believe this would be a variant of the Nasty Pickle glitch.

Axles are pretty crazy in Stock.

yep, that's the idea i followed, if enough pieces fall off it usually drops off map. Is there a way to keep the stock parts but fix the glitches? And do you know of any bots that have controlled flight using stock parts? I've achieved flight with a glitch, but no control.

For that, use the hovercraft component through cheatbot2; otherwise this is the closest thing you'll get:

If you somehow managed to fix the glitching, the bot would still be useless because the axles are static. If you actually want the bot to move, you need a wheel on a drive motor (Reversible Angle Motor, Redbird, or Z-tek), a battery, and the control board with a button wired to the wheel(s).

But welcome to GTM. :)

That is awesome!!! Was anything special done to keep those robots pistons from exploding off map eventually, or were they more controlled because of good design?

I know, i was just hoping to get a more realistic version of the game.

Thank you, glad to be here. :)

It's just because they're pistons, and are much stabler than axles, but the pistons do have to be angled down and not straight out. Axles are probably the only thing you'll see fly out of the arena on a regular basis.

You sound like English isn't your first language, is there another you prefer? I think it'd be cool if we could find someone else that speaks your language here on GTM to go more in-depth with RA2 with you. :o

Ok, thanks for the help! :) English is my first language, but i'm not a very eloquent speaker. On the subject of robots, I'm a noob at the game, and would definitely like to learn more about it.

I probably haven't angled my pistons down enough on my helicopter/bot/thing, mine always glitch out of the map after a short bit.

In that specific arena (with the piston flyers) it has invisible, bouncy walls to keep them in and throw them around. And those robots were actually AIed to run by themselves. They are impossible to really control, and online is far too laggy for four heavyweights anyways.

Start a showcase (in the showcase section, of course) and you'll get showered with advice, knowledge, and general overwhelming-ness of info. Just try not to overthink it and build what comes to mind. There are plenty of people to give advice who would love to help :D

Looking in the showcase section and tutorial sections will help, and also looking at the beetlebros site will help you out :)

Much appreciated. :)

The video of those flying bots was super helpful, I'd been trying to fly by directly attaching pistons to a wheel on a motor, the bots in the vid spin the entire chassis and have pistons connected to that. which i tried, and is much more stable. ) Any idea where i can get the arena they were in?

You can visit the beeatlebros site that explains the glitch (Project trinity glitch) and discover other crazy tips!
