Answer
-
it's the "sky" color of the arena you were last in. IN the practice garage it's gray, in the combat arena it's black. Some other arenas have different colors.
-
So if i go in to an arena with a pink background it'll be pink. schweet

*brainwave*
How about we use the background colors to symbolize difficulty, with grey being Stock Difficulty and blue being 123-AI Difficulty.
-
If you go into Clickbeetle's Small Arena. It will be neon green.
-
Already knew that, but thanks anyway.

that's actually a pretty cool idea

But how would the color levels work?
-
Grey = Stock/Bad DSL
Black = Good Stock/DSL
Green = Starcore/Nar AI
Blue = Starcore V4/123 AI
-
What about other colors?
-
I was wondering why it did this too...
-
Well, I don't know of any other arenas which use any other colour.

I just don't get it....is this for showcases?
-
Then how does Pillar Of Fire have an orange background?
-
Magic.

Actually guys, secret tip here: Using Firebeetle's f9 window cheat mode, you can change the color of the sky to whatever you want. See if you can figure it out.
-
In the BBEANS V2 Arena, the background is green.

Ah. Well If that's the case:
Grey = Bad Stock/Bad DSL
Black/White = Stock/DSL
Yellow = Good Stock / Good DSL
Orange = Artbots
Green = Starcore/Nar AI
Blue = Starcore V4/123 AI
Purple = SHW's/UHW's
(If you haven't noticed yet, that's the same system that Titan Quest uses for it's items)

I would support that Idea.
offtopic: If I edit the hazards.py to make fire and electricity stronger, do I have to touch the compiled hazards?

we can do any color. Simple .py edit.

As Sage mentioned, you can change the background color from in the FPS window. You don't need to mess with any of the Arena.py files unless you really want to.
Someone really smart could even make the garage buttons control the background color. Although, personally, I think having the background automatically change based on the weight of the bot would be a much cooler mod (both would be extremely easy to do).

I feel like anything but the standard grey looks bad which is why I have never used anything else.

I agree.
Although if it were to change to colours, i hope they would be nice shades, i.e. nothing too vibrant or harsh (even black isn't that appealing to me) =P.
-
Wait, if we are doing a color system....
How about making it actually make sense?
Yellow=Bad
Orange=Decent
Red=Overkilling
So the background become more 'serious' the harder the robot is to beat O,o
-
Just do the traffic light system
Green Safe, Orange Cautious, Red Unsafe :P

I second this notion. Or third. Or whatever.
