The Good and bad of the Nerd3 delivery of people.
« on: March 24, 2014, 04:35:06 PM »
Now listen, I'm brand new to this site, and i'll admit that it was Nerd3 who redirected me here. But i'm glad as hell he brought me here. I love games where everything is up to you and there's a billion possibilities. I'm also a sucker for simulator. A lot of people here are veterans, which is cool as hell, and i'd like to get to know you.

But I feel that there's a 50/50 mini-battle here on whether this attention is good or bad.

I understand that this game was kind of hidden away collecting dust like a drunken bear during hibernation. It had a small, respected community. I get that. A Youtuber with over 1 mil subscribers who links this website in his description could really dirty things up a bit. Your most likely going to get some A-holes that just want to bring this site down (really they're harmless). I bet you 75% percent of the people that made this account will forget about it in the next week and a half. Your website will probably slow down a bit, and lets hope it doesn't crash or whatever term you use.

But there are a lot of positives. There will be a small majority of people that will stick with this game and website and group and have fun and constantly try to make  and share better robots than before, like i will. I can't build a robot to save (or end) my life right now but let's not go into that.

This seems far fetched (Not the pokemon) but maybe some developer will try to make a completely new engine for the game and tell people about and bring back the series or something. AND what if someone on network television saw this and said "Hey, there's still a fanbase for Robot fighting arenas. I should call up        Sy-fy or something and see if they want to make a show like this!"

All i'm saying is that there is certainly going to be some good in this. But be careful, because always going to be that wave of comment spamming jerks you'll have to deal with before you reach the gold at the end of the rainbow or some other preppy metaphor like that. Word.

I doubt we'll slow that much, we've done alright in the past when hundreds of 4chaners have poured upon us, but we do hope that some of you guys really enjoy it and stick around, it does get a little crazy how small and imposing it is to new people but we're really not that bad.
As for the TV/Game developers... eh. There's a few indie developments on the game side of things, like our own Sic's Scrapmatch, and as for TV if anyone's chasing that up it'll be the guys running the Robot Wars live events.
Us lot? We're just loyal to the hobby and the game.
Enjoy the community :)

Nobody really thinks it's bad, we just have sh** trolls.
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

Just ignore TRiaS, and I think the opinion suddenly becomes 90% positive.

Hopefully we can get a few more people in to boost tournament numbers as well.

TRiaS does not reflect the views of the community, so don't mind him. He's banned now.

Most of what you said I agree with, and I think you will make a great addition to our forum.

Aside from fail trolls I think the general consensus is that this attention is good.

Hey if I never found this site and this game I probably would have went under the assumption that robot combat was as dead as the TV shows and I would have never went on to build FireArrow. This forum really brings what's left of the robot combat community together and as long as events are still going on and there's interest in this game I think it'll stay that way. Things seem to be growing slightly nowadays, as more people learn about games like this via NerdCubed and we have more people gaining interest after watching an event. Maybe eventually it'll gain enough interest that we can relive the glory days once or twice more. It's good to dream : )

I actually saw a newer video from NerdCubed about robot wars and in it he said that he really wished there was a robot wars game with full on destruction. I was so hopefully he'd find Robot Arena 2. When I remembered RA2 (hadn't played it for years) I really wanted to play it again so I found it and played a bit. Started having some issues so I followed the arrows online and they led me here to fix my problems. Then, a couple weeks later Nerdcubed fulfills my wish and finally finds RA2.

I really hope as well that his video brings these forums and this game to more attention again. I remember a thread somewhere where someone suggested buying the rights or source or whatever. Well Nerdcubed is a famous youtuber, so he's very good at persuading people to fund things. This could mean getting better software or RA3 if he and his fans wants it.

After one day Nerdcubed's video is the highest viewed RA2 video on youtube. This is going to seriously impact this forum's future. Our income of members has been multiplied by 20-40 over the past couple days.

Thanks to all for the positive comments and the warm welcome. I'm glad to have found (and joined) this place. I'd be more than happy to join a tournament as soon as I figure out how build a robot that doesn't feel like breaking and getting mauled by the other robots!

That may be difficult.
I suggest looking at some other poeples showcases and then start your own. That's what I've been doing. ;)

I'm new and from nerdcubed as well and I intend to stick around. I was never much of a robot's battling each other fan much before (I saw a lot of the robot wars games and how limited they were) but after Dan's I was full blown, "Give it to me now!" And then in the subreddit craaig posted the link which gave me the DSL 2.1 download. After that I explored the site and joined shortly after. I hope that the community stays strong and new mods come out to add to the game.

PS give me shout if you want to play multiplayer using gameranger. I noticed 2-3 people is about max. 2 players if you live far apart.

I was directed to this game by Nerdcubed too, and think this looks an awesome game.
I am currently attempting to buy the game, with not much luck, anyone know where to buy it? The official website is broken...
The Nerdcubed video will hopefully bring roboteering gaming back to life, which will be good :)

Can't wait to enter my first tournament...

You can actually still get it on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Robot-Arena-Design-Destroy-PC/dp/B00007M5CW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395782380&sr=8-1&keywords=Robot+arena+2 but still just download it on the wiki.

Hi from another nerd3 / robotics/ free building fan.

I did slight research about forum members(from wiki and faqs).
And i am also hobbyst-indie devloper  :vista: , so there is really slight change that i could make a "addon" in future.
I will really hope to stay in this community.
