Bot Exchange
« on: September 10, 2010, 09:12:47 AM »
So basically I have 2 versions of RA2,

the first is my 'clean' version with nothing out of the ordinary

the second is starcore AI pack 1 and I was hoping to transfer one of my robots across from the first clean version

So I exported it in my robot garage but I cant seem to find his file anywhere and therefore cannot import it, where is the file exported to and how can I access it so I can copy and paste it over?

Cheers.

The exported robots go to the "robot designs" folder.
Just copy and paste it into the other games robot designs folder

Hmmm, i dunno then.
I'd just try exporting the robot again because it should apear there.
You could look under teams but the robots aren't named there so you'd have to remember which spot it's in 0,1,2,3,4 or 5 counting from the left hand-side down.

I have heard about that happening in Vista and 7 with 64 bit OS. That is why I MAKE DOUBLE SURE to install all programs in Program Files....not Program Files (x86) like the dumb, stupid, ignorant, ect, ect, ect OS wants to do!
Anyway, look in your program Compatability folder and you should find it, or do a search for a Robot Designs folder.

Yeah it is in program files (x86)...

And I can find the folder il attach some screenies:

Here you can see I have exported and imported a robot

But in my robot designs folder:

I just have the extra bots... Can anyone help me out? :l

O and there isnt anything in my teams folder, everythings empty apart from team 1 which is just the rookies bots... I even tried exporting my robot and importing in the Rookies team but when I copied the file over it was the standard six robots. Crazy.

Go to Start and in the search box type ....well since 7 is so damn smart and wants to finish your sentence for you...(Like my X wife).....you will have to type 1 letter at a time till you see all the robot design folders......I got to robo.

It will show the location, and if one is ANYWHERE besides your game folder, then that is where the stupid bitch....er OS is putting it.

Your BEST bet is to MOVE your entire Infrogrames folder BY HAND to your Program Files folder, so it will act right.

Nice to see ACAMS hired Underdogthe janitor to help out the RA2 forums.

Also, I think the reason WHY RA2 installed itself in Program Files(x86), because it saw the one with the "(x86)" first(you know how file names are), and just assumed that's the correct place to install the game at.

Regardless, RA2 works no matter which of the Program Files folder you install it in, right?

Right found the folder containing them, so at least I know how to find it now.

And yeah it works fine in Program files (x86) but its hard to explain, the files are less accessible manually, like they're literally no where to be found i.e my 'teams' folder is empty, despite me having 4 custom teams. (Note that the rookies team is in there).

with wiindows 7 it saves files made by ra2 in a hidden folder
go to options and uncheck hide folders and go to your user space, there should be a folder called appdata. they are somewhere in there
i know from personal experience

Sounded pretty plausible but theres no tick box for 'hide folders' in the RA2 main menu or any other menu in the game for that matter...

Where did you find this tick box?

Hmm well while trying to find the folder opions tab I came across a button called ' compatibility files ' at the top nav BAR  and upon clicking it listed these folders:

And these folders contain all my exported paint jobs that I wondered where they went too, all my teams, all the robots and something about Ai and stuff which im assuming would be the place where I created custom Ai if I did that...

Many thanks for your help though, couldnt of discovered it without ya.

Oh and thanks for the welcome :)

Did that, and I lost all my robots/other teams.
Ehhh, Not the end of the world.
At least it kept the components/decals/what-not

EDIT: I found all my exported bots in that "invisible" folder. How nice.
