Title: STORM vs VDMA burst pistons
Post by: meiemarek on April 17, 2014, 03:01:17 AM
Is there any actual difference between them, burst speed/damage wise?
Because i am making a stabber bot (inspired from real life dragsters) and i cant decide should i use couple VDMA burst pistons or STORM or mix of those for high damage

i googled and found only one thread about it, and it was about mostly that some parts wont attach and it was from 2006 year

Also i have been inactive since i had plans for making a "(progession show... forgot the word... oh, "showcase")".

But since i am lazy i will make it later (making bots right now.. still getting beated by dsl ai...  :vista: )

If you go to the components folder in your DSL folder you can search for the .txt files containing the information for the pistons, including their power values. They should be called something like vdmashort.txt. I would search the values for you now but I only have stock and DSL 3 installed.

Storm is theorically more powerful, but less reach. Since no one cares about pokers enough, no one (maybe 123) did solid research on piston damage and piston metagames.

Feel free to try.

The way to get the most damage out of a burst is

1.  It must have enough room to accelerate to max speed
2.  The piston must hit before fully extended

So while Storm Burst can deal more damage in theory, the condition is so narrow that you won't see it in most play.  The longest VDMA/chain burst is the way to go if you want consistent damage.

Do note however that Storm burst has WAY more HP than VDMA.
