Think there was a thread before, but I couldn't find it and didn't want to bump so I just made a new one :P
DSL vs Stock, which do you prefer?
-
DSL, just 'cos I feel I can make a good bot quickly (not easily though, just quickly).
-
Stock. Never used DSL

I prefer DSL.

Stock FTW!

I'm not going to vote, because each of them have their own merits. Stock allows for some fantastic unique and intriguing designs, along with some great precision with things like extender setups, and there's still a great variety of designs with a quite limited component pool. DSL, on the other hand, gives you a much greater variety of components to play with, each of them having their good and bad points, and you can again get a different style of building, where efficiency - I think - takes a much greater precedent. I'm a fan of both, if I'm honest, but I don't think you can reallly compare Stock and DSL, they're two completely different building styles. =)
-
Its not about comparing the two, just which one you prefer :P

I think if I tried DSL, I'd like it better than Stock though.

Stockasaurus Rex
I like DSL, but I just have such a deep connection to stock that will never change. (Unless Joe finishes backlash :gawe: )
-
Stock, the true original RA2!
-
Stock seems to be the flavour of the moment recently....
I prefer DSL by far, I don't have the patience for stock, and my computer seems to only let me stack if there's quite a bit of empty space round the thing i'm trying to stack.
Plus, I think there's a lot more room for creation in DSL.
-
There ain't FSS in stock, so DSL is what I prefer.
-
IF YOU GUYS LIKE STOCK SO MUCH POST MORE BOTS
ahem but yeah stock

Huh, is Summer Sumo a Stock tourney? o.o

Huh, is Summer Sumo a Stock tourney? o.o
No, "Stock MW" is kill's codename for DSL SHW. :P

Don't expect me to read these things, I got told that no one ever hosts Stock tourneys
-
Stockasaurus Rex
huh?
I prefer DSL but I try to convert my building in stock sometimes :)
-
They're just quite rare nowadays, because there's some vaguely similar designs entered. Dominator of Dragons was a Stock Tourney. =]

And closed before I got interested in tourneys TT-TT
-
I like DSL because there's not much more to do with stock. DSL gives more opportunities for creativity.
-
DSL- mainly because building a decent bot doesn't take forever. And I have little patience.
-
I like Stock because of the ridiculous ideas you can come up with. Like my recent hybrid Stock bots. =D You can go much more overkill with robots in Stock than DSL.
-
DSL
-More components and space for individuality.
-More realism - Stuff going through stuff annoys me.
-Not one or 2 dominant species - It's all efficient HS or popups in stock, and that's all (it seems) that wins anything.
-Possibility for very IRL style bots (eg Thyrus bots) or artbots which I really like.
-
I like both, but I prefer DSL because of greater customization and that it's meant to stay true to realistic bot building, for the most part at least.
-
DSL
Because snapper loading and stacking in Stock test my patience.
-
woah DSL caught up
-
Maybe DSL is more popular in later time zones. =] Would be an interesting demographic.
-
Yar, it's coz DSL is for bigger boys :trollface

DSL is more popular in general.
-
I used to prefer DSL because there were no utterly dominant designs; you could experiment and make unique bots that were still good. Now in the age of popups and razor flails, I think I prefer stock.
So now rather than try and build in DSL2, I'm putting that time into working on DSL3 and making it better.
-
I chose DSL because it is easier to make replicas and IRL realistic bot etc.
Actually I like both of them because all I do in them is make realistic bots.
-
I like Stock because it's what all the cool kids do.
-

AMEN, BRO.
-
DSL Because Stock is the same old crap.
-
Stock is the same old crap.
All of your DSL bots are generic at best. And you say say stock is the same old crap.
-
To be honest I don't like DSL unless there are replica packs. Sure it has variety and uniqueness but its a definitely easy win with Stock on my mind because of 3 reasons.
1. It has more building levels from the original game to the RFS pack to Starcore 4.0 and I like doing that.
2. It has the original parts, custom parts have more chances of crashing the game.
3. There is wayyyyyyyyyyy too many parts for me.
I might change to DSL if there are more replica packs.(I'm not pushing anyone to make thiers done quicker)
So Stock for me.
-
I definitely prefer stock in terms of building but DSL has all the neat features. Fortunately, all my mods are in a stock install of RA2 so it is almost as jam packed as DSL (now if only more were finished....).
-
Stock by a longshot!
-
I like DSL because it is more realistic and it doesn't take for ever to stack and figure out blitches. Both are pretty good though.
-
Stock for sure (though funny enough I think I statistically had more success in DSL)
Think there was a thread before,
Several.. this has to be the most common topic in general discussion. But its one of those things that need a refresher every now and then to see how the community is moving around..
for those playing at home, last ratio was 2 DSL for every 1 Stock.
(Unless Joe finishes backlash :gawe: )
ima trying, ima trying :P
