Title: Skirt Hinge Wedge
Post by: Somebody on November 08, 2009, 07:39:19 AM
Most of us know that in DSL, a burst motor wedge (such as a wedge off of a Mag Snapper) kicks the ass of a Skirt Hinge Wedge (found on most bots). This is normally attributed to the fact that the Mag Snapper wedge is "on a burst motor". But why? Technically, Skirt Hinges ARE burst motors, so why aren't they good.

The fact that a DSL snapper wedge pwns a skirt hinge wedge can be related to the fact that a DDT wedge pwns a Snapper II wedge. It's most likely due to the 'burst' line in their .txt files.

While on the subject... why are skirt wedges even allowed? I mean, DSL should be about realism and IMO skirt wedges (especially ones on burst motors) are not something you would find on a real bot today.  I think it is kinda unfortunate that at some point, someone discovered a loophole in the "realistic" rules because skirt wedges do not break the DSL rules... but most of them break real life physics rules if you think about it.

good point ^ I think that is why click wanted to make chassis wedges better in DSL 3

as for the success rate of skirt hinges I have a feeling it could do with the fact they are bursts but the have a 0 arc so they cant be fired ... this makes them fairly static compared to burst wedges..

is there a way to change the arc to more than 0 so it can be fired.

if so would if be messing about with the gmf file or something more complicated.

I think it's just because of the power values of the burst motor.

Skirt hinges have zero power values (notably torque and maxspeed), metal hinges have very low values (but superior), and bursts have superior.

Exact reason why i put JX burst wedges on Blade Wave... but they didn't worked very well...

ashman12, to edit the arc (im fairly sure) is in the text file, if you want to be able to use it as a burst find a post by Wham and download his front hinged flipper burst in his sig
