NOTE: this idea has been posted before by me a little while ago, topic was old so I'm posting a new one.
I have thought for a while now that the community lacks something and that something is a live streaming channel where people can hang out, chat and enjoy RA2 together. here are some things that would be possible with the live streaming channel:
- A shared account run by selected members, less downtime between live streams.
- Live Robot Arena 2 tournaments, Watch tournaments as they are hosted live and discuss results at the same time.
- Match Requests, anyone in chat would be able to request matches if there is no live tournament in progress
- Community building, the host is able to take ideas from the chat to build robots.
- Live commentary, always a possibility.
- Live Shows Run by the hosts, the hosts can put together series or shows they think up such as running through the single player tournaments with a chosen bot.
-
Sorry to sound a little stupid but what is a live streaming channel?
-
live online tournament would be so dope.we should have one

it's a live (not recorded) video channel, there's a couple of popular websites where you can broadcast for free which have a chat box right next to the stream which gives people a more immediate way to interact.

We could try JustinTV, Its a good website for Live Broadcasts...
And about the Tourneys, That would be AWESOME!!! ;DDD
Big, Phat, Green +1 for you

We would need a webcam then right?

I think its a software you record with that records your screen...
But you do need a good internet to stream the vid, And IDK how many people do have a good internet here

Nope, there are programs that allow you to stream what's on your monitor.
-
I have a webcam, plus 3 years video experience. Lemme tell ya, the best free live desktop broadcaster is either the one which Livestream offers or, if you're not going to use that, Manycam. But once you get Manycam, it's quite the bitch to get off your PC.
-
I'm using Xsplit which is a new broadcasting program, quality is much better then what i was getting with manycam.

Remember that you need a good Upload speed to stream good quality stuff & The watchers also need a good internet to stream that good quality thing...
I can stream 720p HD Stuff, But other people here can too..?
-
so thought this was a spalkey thread, but its a good idea.
-
also, if this works i could set something up as i am experienced in these.
-
I've never streamed above 480, the internet around my place is a bit, shall we say, crap.
-
ive done 720 once, on my old laptop, i tried it on this one and it was ok.
shall we make a show list?
-
I'm hoping that some vets would be able to host the live stream so we don't have any drama, I'm sure my internet could handle it fine.
-
Drama?
im not going to act like a douche or anything.
-
I want people outside of the forum flame wars to be hosts just to be sure, i don't want to have to continuously make new accounts because someone gets upset and changes the password or whatever. I just want the live stream to be a place where people can go and chill out while chatting and watching a robot arena 2 stream.

Double post :O
I have an idea for a show I can broadcast on the live stream... "Classic Battles" - Relive some of the best matches and moments from past tournaments. I'm currently testing out streaming here: http://www.justin.tv/wwe2005 (http://www.justin.tv/wwe2005) if anyone wants to come and take a look.
currently the stream is 640x480, watchable and not that laggy. I'm streaming lower res due to me not knowing how much bandwidth usage I have left for the month.
Also you can view a recent broadcast from a couple of minutes ago while i was testing here: http://www.justin.tv/wwe2005/b/279283221 (http://www.justin.tv/wwe2005/b/279283221) (includes bounty hunter vs Insult to Injury V)
-
any feedback on quality of stream would be great guys :P I'm going live now so you can go to the channel and join me in chat to share feedback.
-
ME GUSTA.
-
going live now if anyone wants to join the channel.
-
where?
-
where?
seriously? scroll up a little, and i can't be bothered anymore so yeah guess i wasted bandwidth streaming and wasted time because i thought people wanted to see it up >.<
-
this thread can be closed now :)
-
really? I never got to see anything. It was either active when i wasn't aware/was busy with other stuff or when others in the house here were gaming online (and my connection isn't that good). to bad i had to miss this.
-
You gotta say when youre gonna broadcast...
Id like to watch sometimes :P
And also, You can give people the pass & Username for more people to broadcast coz everytime I check, Its offline :\
Im in the mood for broadcasting how much my wedges are failing when I fight ANY bot in NarAI...

I was live for 2-3 hours both days (about 4-6 hours total) an no one bothered coming to take a look and there were people on the forums at the time, they kept posting but ignored these posts. someone with better rep can create an account on justin.tv or whatever and try to shovel people along to the channel.
-
What if you made something like a tv guide. 1 or 2 times a week at a certain time, you could do live matches?

Or if the vets that have access to the channel started broadcasting everytime they use RA2...
It would be interesting seeing the vets build a bot & Stuff :P
Also fights would be interesting etc...
But just 2 hours or so a day or even less... Doesnt really seem attractive, Since people wont be checking this thread or going to JustinTV 24/7 to see if there's someone broadcasting :P
-
or maybe have the stream on the homepage :P

I remember I wanted to reply to this 2 days ago but IDK why I didnt :P
Anywayz...
Its a good idea, But Its better if you put it ontop of the forum (I think Ive seen a forum with a vid on the top & Then the topics start)
So that people get it straight in their face when they enter the forum... Coz I always skip the Homepage, I got Chrome to go straight to the forum :3
So if someone is broadcasting they'll see the LIVE thingy & Will check it out ;D
I know I would :gawe:
