Respect/fear rating rewrite.
« on: June 30, 2010, 11:02:01 PM »
Simple plan.

Rewrite every RR and FR to 50.

Modify it from there.

(Why? Some people have less respect than they should, or more than they should. Having the standard at 50 means the basis for FR and RR should be fairer.)

Also, for the Respect Raters and Fear Raters, I'd like new ones to sign up here.

I'll hand pick you from now as Giga's away and I think the idea I have may work out.

my idea was to have a list with each person on a rating

example (yes I said example so dont complain about where people are)

100 - ACAMS
99 - Clickbeetle
98 - Madiaba
97 - Starcore

etc

Im unsure how it would fair but its just food for thought

i like joe idea, but it might not work out in the long run. too much competition and such.
You got my vote for RA2 Wizard. Always and forever.

S-32 has a central median starting point, from which each person's actual behaviours would sway it up/down from there.  I understand this and it seems to be a good idea.

Maybe it's me, cause Sage gets it.  But could you explain your idea more, Joe:
Why start there, and what influences it from that point? Thanks.

(BTW: "Madiaba - 98.001" :baby_smily: )
Input is appreciated. :)

nope cant find it

my idea was to have a set laid stuff that gains respect

competition of a tournament
competition of a mod
completion of an AI pack

etc for respect

have a points tally so that rating depends on what you do.. maybe start out with a base score depending on ranks

I dont know I didnt think it all the way through. I throw the ball out in hope someone would take it and run a bit... before being tackled by someone with a new and better ball.

But it's possible to have created a mod and/or AI pack and still be a complete tool whom nobody respects.

OK. I get the picture now.  Thanks.

Can you add Frezal's point into the equation too?

Which brings up the point:. What is, and determines, 'respect'?
-impressed?
-appreciated?
-scared?
-a wedgie...?

IMO it's stupidly hard to put a numerical rating and track it on something that varies so widely from person to person. For example, I have much more respect for Frezal than it appears many of you guys do, so while I may rate him in the 60's, he may get rated in the 20's by someone else. The only way to do it accurately would be to have a consensus of 5 or so people and take the average. Even then, I think ranking people on a 0-100 scale leaves too much room for error on something as subjective as respect. Perhaps a broader scale is the way to go (ie: A+ to F scale). That way, it eliminates the need for tiny distinctions such as 62/100 respect to 60/100 respect.

But, with all this being said, is this ranking really needed? What would we be really accomplishing here? The numbers on the wiki hold no real value to anyone, and I'm admittedly a bit confused as to their purpose. Are they for those who seek info about the GTM's forums, so they automatically know who they should respect more than others? To me, this seems like a self-defeating principle. New members - scratch that - everybody should have the same (high) amount of respect for everybody else here, unless they prove themselves undeserving of being held in high regard. Thus, ratings are pretty much useless.

Long in short: once again, we're making too much work for ourselves on categorizing the uncategorizable and ranking the unrankable. We're here for enjoyment, so kick back, relax, and enjoy a R0B0 smiley, on me:

Not useless. Respect rating made me wiki admin :P

But yeah. Respect and fear rating really doesn't means much.

that was lowering ACAMS's.. and your punishment was to clean up the spam bots =P

I dont care about the number myself but im trying to find a self explanatory system so people will stop asking for more higher numbers (it happens a lot)

I would say just do away with this all together but Serge made us awesome bars on the wiki  :gawe:

That's why I plan to have several conflicting people rate Respect and Fear.

Preferably:
MNB (Mind re-written)
Frezal (Totally unusual political/social/economic stances)
Reier (Unpredictable socilite)
Pwnator (Neutral Competitive player)
Joeblo (Tourney host, modder and peace keeper)
Madiba (Mod, modder, coder, peace keeper)
Avalanche (Reformed newbie.)

But variations on my formula are welcome.

Avalanche ? LRA2 isn't even barely here and all what he would do is pull off bovine buttock biscuits on the wiki.

but he doesn't get to start writing everyone's ratings either Nary.

everyone gives a member a figure they seem to be correct and the average is taken as the actual figure

perhaps done for all members every 6 months so its not so its no huge work load?

but I dont know about LRA2. R0B0 would make a good one though

Hey Naryar, how did you get your Advanced user? I really want to know.
I thought, that me and GK could become too Advanced users because we are one of the most active members in GTM...

@Jonzu: Probably because i was giving feedback on the showcases and helping. Then  NAR AI came but it was after the AU title.

You'll get yours in time if you stick to advancing the community.

@Joey: Due to the what ??

You and Frezal being on both of these groups isn't enough ?
