I thought, what if we put together a time capsule (zip file) full of bots, skins, mods, memorbila of modern day RA2 technology, given to a younger member, so 10-12 years from now it can all be given to the comunity, so we can look back at it.
-
Perhaps the cleverest idea you've had. IDK if it'd work though.
-
It wouldn't work. Things aren't exactly gonna get lost, and who says that member will stick around and/or keep the zip file? And somehow, unfortunately, I doubt the forum will be active for another 10-12 years...
-
The comunity will always be around, though.
-
Why not hosting it on GTM, tech can be uploaded each year to see how it changes.
-
I think it should be put up for one year, while stuff is uploaded, then locked for years.
-
Hey, I'll be that member to keep it. Maybe a shorter lock span, though. Maybe 3-5 years?

I'd say seven. Alot has happend in seven so far. It would be a real easy way to keep track of bots, two, I think it should have all competitors from BBEANS and other big tounrys during that time period.
-
I think it would be a good idea :laughing
-
Your best bet would probably be to download one of the bot packs from the early days of RA2. I doubt this community will last another ten years. The game was a bargain game to begin with, and it's only getting older. That being said, you might as well throw together a pack anyway.
-
Dude, this game will always have a small deticated comunity. It's gone from a game to a platform. Sure, stock will die off, but it will allways be moded.

This community is shrinking. At some point, probably within the next five years, nobody will be left to carry the torch.

He is right the moded versions will last longer than the stock

I've been in the community since the game was released. It's definitely shrinking, not growing.
-
Actually, I think it's stayed the same since, I'd say, '06.

I am not a spy

You weren't around, how do you know?
-
I don't think this game could survive a healthy 5 years. We will all move on to cod or something.

Or maybe... STARCRAFT 2
-
Meh, if we stop all the flame wars and be nicer to newbies it'll be around alot longer. GTM will probebly always be around, it might move to something else though, like COD or Halo.

Why do you assume GTM will always be around? AceUplink had a much bigger following, and that collapsed. The forum I've been administrating for the last five or so years has been around for nearly 10 years, and it's definitely on its way down. All forums come to an end; it's just a matter of when.
-
remember when this site hosted some battlefield stuff?
-
Personally, all the forums that i've been in have closed down or died eventually in 2-3 years. (Not implying that it is my fault :P)
But i hope GTMs will stay longer... and stay on topic.
Edit : @Duck: Yes it had a battlefield section. It was barely active though.
-
We should put together a progression log. At the end of each year, we put all of the notable bots of that year together, to be downloaded for nostalgia. We can put together ones for past years as well if possible.
-
*Lets try to stay on the topic of RA2 and its future at GTM....
Having a collection of notable bots uploaded every year would be an interesting idea (best idea thus far, IMO). The only downside is picking which bots would have the "notable" status.
-
Iconic bots, meme starting bots, First time designs, bots utilizing new glitches, Tourny winners, ect.
That's all I can think of.
-
the hall of fame robots ? (as many of them that still exist)
cool idea.. as for the survival of this game.. its becasue of 2 things...
1) no better Robot Fighting game has ever been made.. no matter how outdated this gets its still the best until a company makes another
2) the mod-ability..

Increasing entropy is inevitable. Therefore, why don't we be very careful to do 'maintenance' on present entropy, and not in any way facilitate 'accelerating' the downward process....
All people are important...
