Question on bot types
« on: April 07, 2016, 02:31:18 PM »

I have recently submitted a bot into the "Rival Rumble" tournament, and I was given the bot type "clamp"

Here is my bot:-

Now, Thrackerzod is unsure on what the type of this bot is, and is cautious when entering the bot into the tournament.

So, my question is, do you think this bot is a side-hammer, or a clamp? (see poll above)

Thanks in advance for the help,
Red

P.S. if you think it is a side-hammer, could you please give examples of a clamp, just to ensure I can make an actual clamp in the future.

Dude, that's a side hammer.  If you want to know how a clamp works look at this page.

Depends on what the arms are attached to. With the starting position like that, it can only be a clamp if it's servos

Side hammer = Repeatedly swing at chassis to deal repeated shots of damage
Clamp = Slowly hug chassis and hold on to deal sustained damage and/or remove their mobility (can be done with crushing servos, or burst motors that start in the "closed hug" position then go into "open hug" when they fire)

When I gave RedAce "Clamp" I pretty much meant what's on the Wiki.
Better than GK since 2009.
I think SM is a pretty cool guy, eh builds unicycle-bots and doesn't afraid of anything

I also felt like it was a side hammer, but was thinking that maybe you could technically call it a "horizontal clamp".

if you've ever seen complete control, thats what a clamp is trying to emulate. just import either fight or flight or gaurd duty and look at how they work

that's a side hammer man.

A clamp, by definition, is built to grab enemies. This bot does not grab, it simply hammers the sides repeatedly.

I also felt like it was a side hammer, but was thinking that maybe you could technically call it a "horizontal clamp".

no no. a horizontal clamp grabs bots with his arms. a side hammer does not do this and just strikes repeatedly.

both designs look similar but don't work similarly.

for taking Robutt Wars examples, horizontal clamp = tough as nails & splinter.

I think I understand. Does anyone have a link to a clamp type bot, so I can see how a clamp works properly?

Just look at Fight Or Flight.
It should be in the BBEANS AI pack.

I really meant to say horizontal clamp but I didn't so :P.

i'm only a finalist in BBEAMS 7 which was a meme tournament and I just stole a NAR AI bot and made it dense as ****.
and Not Bushido was a thing that happened, I beat the #1 seed despite being #bad seed.

Did you even read that page. Are you serious. Not only does it display a clamp, it shows how it works, and gives links to 4 or 5 clamp bots.
