i have noticed that there are a few differing opinions on putting motors on skirt hinges, and i want a majority vote to determine the legalty of attaching weapon/drive motors on the said hinges in showcases and whatnot
also this is my first poll in my 1 1/4 years of being here
-
Unrealistic because it improves the motor. It's already illegal, for me at least.
-
DSL "realism" is already hecka unrealistic, so who gives a damn?

Actual DSL builders.
But yes, we should change "DSL realistic" to something like "DSL standard building".
-
Yeah, if it improves the motor, I'm not cool with that. As for DSL Realism/Standard DSL, I believe I switched to 'Standard DSL' in the RIP rules, to avoid 'realistic=IRL?' confusion
-
-
Putting motors on a skirt hinge for whatever reason, which speeds the motor up a little bit.
-
Why would you even do that, that's asking for a train ticket to AGOD central, with a possible havok buffet included.
-
Well, that's like saying flails increase weapon damage unrealistically.

apparently awesumsauce made a bot with a hinge bursted dual perm without major agod or havok or anything
but i don't think it should be banned because if you can get it to work without agod or havok then you should be allowed to use it, not many bots have bursted motors in dsl anyway

Titanium 3
Can self-right by reversing weapons

me too:

it's V 1.6 though, i made a V2 but i deleted it.
-
that's 3. out of god knows how many dsl bots there are.
there are probably more but they really aren't common at all so it isn't worth banning it imo
-
Using burst motors (including skirt hinges) or servos (including metal hinges) to support spin motors should only be done in DSL if the design requires it, such as a clamp/VS or something similar.
-
A bursted Dual Perm will spin faster than a static dual perm, so in a fight (logically..) the bursted dual perm would win most times. Allowing bursted spin motors would be a step closer to just calling DSL standard stock 2.0. It's close enough as it is.
-
Skirt hinge bursting is the equivelant of Servo enhancing, since a skirt hinge is just a servo with no torque or something. Servo hancing is illegal, thus skirt hinge bursting should be illegal too.
-
Why is this even a discussion ? This is one of the greatest differences between stock building and DSL building. If we go this way we may as well start exostacking, stacking batts and then build just like in stock.
DSL unrealistic and DSL standard are two different things. Don't make them the same !
-
Isn't it just, "mounting a component on another component which enhances the attached components ability".
In this case, flails should be banned.
And it's impossible to find a line between servo enhanced and servo mounted.

Faulty logic. In your case, not only flails should be banned, but motors as well.

Yes. THat's why I'm saying there is no grounds for banning motors on servos/hinges.
-
My stance is only bursting hinges should be legal (Flippers are more realistic that way)
-
Can I see a video of them?
-
I remember suggesting a bunch of "halved" motors to prevent this.
I still emplore this patch. it's easy to follow.
-

Sorry FRAPS and Gamecam refuse to work, so I cannot catch them on video but there is a hinge burst in the RoamingRobots AI Pack.
-
Hinge boosting should be treated as servo boosting, since it's basically the same.

I sure hope you meant Servo Enhancing?.. otherwise id be worried :P

There's no option for "I don't give a sh**" on the poll.

There's no option for "I don't give a sh**" on the poll.
Then why are you even posting in this thread ?

Pure, unadulterated boredom.

Oh we are servo boosting on DSL now?
I am fine with it actually. DSL has been dominated by popups, FSS, and FSnS, with spinners such as VS and HS being the underdog. This might actually balance out spinner a little bit.
As long as noone attempt to put a FSS motor on a skirt hinge.... cuz that will havok SOOOO bad it won't even be funny.

yeah.... have to agree with that, but at the smaller weight classes(MW,LW,BW,AW), hinge bursting is more prone to havoking(although, i have made a LW version of Midnight Wave, but at other times(like when i'm trying to make a hinge bursted Final Z clone,it havoked every time i turn and when the bot hits a wall),so, in conclusion, hinge bursting is fine because you're trading higher havok probabilities with a faster weapon.
