Perplexing Weapon Design
« on: August 27, 2013, 06:32:05 AM »
(Might be the wrong section, but it's related to DSL Bot Building, move if needed)

I'm in a bit of a quandry about a weapon design and how to pull it off right in DSL2.

The weapon i'm thinking of is something like a Bale Grabber for a front loader (Here: http://media.autobase.co.nz/VehicleImages/Full/1/5/3/1530575_1.jpg ). I'm unsure as to how to pull it off properly.

Help would be appreciated.

A burst motor and a servo piston might work, though it may need a special .py to work. Maybe have the burst go up and while that happens have the piston extend? The Burst will automatically then come down and since the bot is within the claw a smartzone could make the piston pull back.

Well... burst motor, iron spikes,an assload of red extenders?

Can't do it with pistons anyway, servos will probably fail as well so you've got either a hammer-like design or a clamp (which starts closed and is fired then clamps on the enemy).

Or you can have fun with changing a 90 DSL axle into a spin motor and give it very low speed and very high torque.

edit: ok wtf is with these ninjas

That's practically begging the demons of havok and agod to come and possess your bot.

now that you mention this, what about a wedge on a servo constantly pressing down

The LittleMetalFriend binding makes for decent crushers; as decent as they can be in RA2, that is.  The TDD servo will serve you well for this, it's got a limited arc.  I assume you're building this for show rather than competitions.  Your best bet is to use the new DSL 3 extenders, can't see how you can do that design in DSL 2
