I see people make accurate replicas of robots, and the paintwork is good. I don't know how to paint my bots so i need some advice please.

Skin with photoshop (or GIMP if you don't have photoshop like me). You are not limited to the default skin size; you can use, for example, 512 x 512 or 1024 x 1024. Also, google images is your friend.
Not that experienced but I think this is right
Helloface DSL Fall 2013 - 1st
BB7 HW - Quarter Finals
RA2O Tokyo BW - 1st
BB8 HW - 1st
Breaking Point - 2nd Round
Powers of 3 - Qualifiers

Akshaylan is right, that's the key.  You can't make a whole lot of detail without doubling or quadrupling the BMP file.  Also, the layers feature on Paint.net or GIMP is very useful, so that you don't have to about maing a mistake when you're drawing on top of a complex pattern

Copy the .bmps to your "Custom Textures" folder. Then, load up RA2. Go to the robot which you want to put the custom texture on, head to the Paint menu and import your image.

Whenever I use paint to edit my bots the game always crashes and stops responding, is there another editing software I can use.
And what is the Starcore V3 pack

Are the skins the right size? The skins need to be 256*256/512*512/1024*1024/2048*2048/4096*4096** .etc
You can check that by going image>attributes in paint. In xp at least.

**I've used this one. Not recommended. It makes the .bot file 16mb! Looks crisp as heck though. The most you should ever need to go to is 1024*1024 for most skins.

Listen guys, I know I am probably getting on your nerves but  I am very new to this. I play DSL and want to know more! I have watched your series on youtube rossetie's replicas and I see parts like Tsunami's flipper, Dantomkia's flipper and more. I can't seem to paint my bots and when I edit from costum textures I use paint, I am not sure if thats right. I also have no idea how to A.I robots, so I can't seem to do that either. I am not a computer wizard.

Yes, that it how you paint the chassis itself, it's more about technique and practice than being a computer wizard.  To paint components, here's a tutorial that explains it better than I could:
