nVidia UI fix for DSL 2.0
« on: August 26, 2006, 06:24:17 PM »
I have an idea how to fix the graphics for nVidia users, but I'm not 100% sure it works.  I've uploaded a modified mainmenu.gib that will *hopefully* fix the graphics on your main menu.

Download it here

Please post if it works/doesn't work.  If it works, I'll get started on the other graphics right away.

Edit:  The complete version is now finished.  Get it here.

main menu is fixed, but that's all. Logos are still blurred in the bot lab and match select screen

Aha!  So, all that's needed to fix the graphics for nVidia cards is this:

In the .gib files, look for the [Image] tags like this:

_Tiling false
_Filename \mainmenu\ra2_logo.tga
_BufferWidth 0 0 0 0
_Size 512 1 76 1
_Alpha true
_Filtering 0
_ForeColor 1 1 1 1
_Name
_Position 0 0 0 0
0 0 0.465732 0.5836325

All that's needed to fix the graphics is to change those last four numbers so they read:

0 0 1 1

instead of messy decimal numbers.  These new UI files would even work on non-nVidia 6000 cards.  I think I'll include the new .gibs in a v2.1 patch.

In the meantime though, I'll get working on the rest of the .gibs and upload the full fix.

OK, here is the COMPLETE nVidia UI fix.

Sadly I don't think it will fix the Mars Base arena, as that doesn't even work on nVidia cards below 6000.  But it should fix all the graphical issues on menus and such.

LOL...It came out before DSL and I have been wanting to try it too. It is the VERY first thing I tried after getting my new ATI card. It was OK, but just reminded me of a reskinned combat arena with the floor wrinkled.

BUT I RECOMMEND GETTING AN ATI BASED CARD!!
Even with the fix the graphics are not the same as with the ATI.....I guess I am converted forever!!

On me the Mars Arena's lag comes from multiple bots on the arena. 1 vs. 1 no lag at all. 3 vs. all bit slow downing.  4 vs. all quite jammy and slow. It depends on bots on the arena how well the arena will roll, smaller and less components that smoother rolling.

I don't even play the Mars Arena. Most of my bots are relatively low to the ground and it makes it hard for me to navigate. However, driving the All Terrain Train around it is great! :D

ACAMS pointed something out that should probably go here.  The nVidia fix won't work on the downloaded RA2 because of the dumb invisible UI differences.  If I ever find out what's different with the UI, I'll make a fix for the DL version.

Occasionally I have gotten Mars Arena to work with SOME bots, but not most. I wonder if it has to do with custom components?

as soon as i get some cash rolling in i plan on getting either a mid-high end ATI or nVidia(read; powerful and affordable). still not sure which, i think ill do some research and find the best deal. but first i need some damn RAM, this 256 crap isnt cuttin it for even the most basic of operations.
