Looking for construction help
« on: May 22, 2006, 07:02:41 PM »
Does anyone know how the rotating drum is set up on El Diablo?  I thought it would be kinda cool to have a rotating drum on each end and move the wheels around a bit to make it handle better when inverted, but i can't seem to figure out how the drum components are placed.  Can anyone help me?

I think it uses custom components specially designed for the drum. I think the motor is on other end of the drum or something.

Easy way to find out:  Open up El Diablo in the bot lab and click on the drum parts to see where they are.  Remove and reattach them one by one to get a better idea.

Not that easy...some of the replica bots were AAMed and most all the parts are hidden.(as they should be)

Actually, I think the motor is INSIDE the drum itself - at least, that's where the extender is leading.  I've run across a few robots with a drum that envelopes the entire motor.

Maybe the drum is powered by black magic, hence why you can't see it.

Why not?  We have Harry Potter's stuff, and a magic motor already, so one more wouldn't hurt.  I'd say it was powered by The Force, but that's a whole different series of robots ....
