Code being written.
Code doesn't come out of thin air.
Needs ideas to generate it.
No, you have no idea what you're talking about. Programming isn't just the implementation of an idea. It's a long, tiresome, non-rewarding, standalone process, especially when you need to write something as complex as a game engine (and it's what would be the best for a possible sequel). I would gladly do it, but I'm too busy with school at the moment. I do have 5 months of holidays afterwards, so there is a chance I'll start working on something. But I don't need ideas. I need research papers on physics engines, experienced programmers, time and luck.

IDK much about game making & Such but I dont think we need to make everything COMPLETELY from Scratch.
The game itself yeah, Maybe... But we could use some free open source game engines.

It doesnt have to be something AWESOME comparable to Crysis or games right now, But as long as its better than RA2 itself its fine.

We just need to start doing something atleast, Ofcourse itll be hard... But having a lil bit of progress is better than not having progress at all :P
No other Robot Combat games are gonna get released (ever) & DSL 3 will probz be the top of how much you can mod a game...
Then the community will die if theres nothing else, Just look at the activity of the forum: Most people are in the Junkyard instead of the RA topics.

The problem again, is that "we" literally means just Serge.  This is not a collective process, and we are not helping one bit.  What incentive does he have in doing all the work while we just sit around complaining?

If all the non-programmers wants this so bad, maybe they can all chip in some money to compensate the programmer for doing all the work/putting up with all the "suggestions".  If paying the programmer the going market price is too much money, then we don't really want this for the amount of work it takes.

The real solution is that Battlebots and Robot Wars need to become commercially profitable again.

Once the market determines that a trend is profitable... then the correct companies will spend time and money to make a new game.

But, unfortunately, all a majority of you kids like to do these days is shoot stuff.   :p

Come to think of it... Lego company would probably make a pretty decent amount of money if they developed a game that allowed you to build robots and pit them against each other in destructive combat.

Another idea would be if a College/University team made their final thesis project to develop a combat robotics game. It would be worth the time and effort if the final reward was a good grade or semester graduation merits. Any of you college kids got a tech lab / computer science lab to propose this to?

I've been looking into game engines for a long time now, and never found one that I liked. Hence why I started coding my own...
It doesnt have to be something AWESOME comparable to Crysis or games right now, But as long as its better than RA2 itself its fine.
But if some sort of effort gets put into a new game, it's best to try to make it the best possible
But having a lil bit of progress is better than not having progress at all :P
Common mistake. It's better to have a solid base to build upon instead of "lil bits of progress" which you have to maintain for a long time (unless you want to redo everything for the nth time)
Then the community will die if theres nothing else
The community is long dead.

I agree.

I was thinking of this... After all, I'll hopefuly start studying CS in a few months.

I don't know about others, but I'd rather start accepting donations after I finish something rather than before, as I don't want to feel morally obligated towards anyone.

That's not exactly a solution though.  More like hoping for something uncontrollable and improbable to just happen.

I thought that's the point.

I honestly have more faith in Atari releasing Robot Arena 3 after finding out that Battlebots was going to be on prime time TV again (if that ever were to happen).

vs.

A bunch of well-intentioned rogue programmers deciding it would be a kick-ass project to design and finish.

-------

Maybe I am just jaded, but money talks.  I don't think it involves hope at all. If combat robotics hit prime time again and people were yelling and cheering for the Mortis' and Bulbasaurs... we would have our RA3 and the licensing rocket would launch again.

Theres a plethora of McDonalds Battlebot Toys on eBay right now that prove it.  :D

Just out of curiousity; how much money would we be needing to raise to make this plausible?  I can't contribute much, what with college expenses and all, but I have some assets that I could liquify, it'd be a start.

MAAAYYBBEE i could contribute some money... Not cause I dont want to or anything but cause my parents dont trust online payments & Stuff.
So It would be a bit hard to convince em of doing anything money related online, But if I knew Serge in person I would give some donations with no probs cash :P

It IS possible... Thats whta I mean with this thread. Coz people say in other threads that it wont happen & Such things... It could be made & No money would be needed. (It would really help though) There was this guy that made this BotApp thingy right?
That was ALOT better than RA2 itself (THe cvombat) & Honestly, I wouldent expect anything more from the combat. Like. I wouldent add anything else, That was just awesome?
