Hi everyone - I recently reinstalled RA2 and have been playing it but i remember that the game had a big modding community which is how i found this site. Ive looked around a bit but its kind of confusing.
I installed the Starcore pack and its been crashing alot, i have the CD version so is that he problem?
Are there other mods i need to install and what do i need to play online because i can never find games
-
online is very laggy, not many play , if they do they have Hamachi or something
-
Make sure you have the 1.3 Patch.
-
Are mods like DSL and Starcore compatible with each other? Is there a place a i can find more info about these mods?
-
no. dsl is a completey diferent mod while starcore is an ai pack. it is possible but completly unbalanced
-
DSL isnt the big mod for this game is it? The AI is terrible, it just rams you the entire time and if you happen to have a bot less powerful than the AI you spend the entire time pinned aganist the wall. The AI is so dumb it will continue to ram into you until it destroys itself
-
What bot were you fighting?
-
It seems like almost every bot does it. Scout for example is a flipper but he just drives right at me and even if his flippers are on top of my bot it just keeps firing a way. I
dont know the possibilities of the AI coding but i thought there would be some dodging like you would see in battlebots where the bots would get angles on each other and hold back for a while before attacking.
EDIT: Just played as some bot Hammerhead and i was YU812. As far as i can tell Hammerhead is a crappy robot that moves at 6mph with weights on the front of it but it managed to knock off half the parts on my bot. Scoring in this game is retarded - if two bots collide they both cant get points for damage because instead of creating interesting or realistic design people just throw as many blades or spikes on their bot as they can. Sorry guys but you guys created a ridiculous game that while it has much deeper building options it has crappy gameplay

I'd flame the heck out of you for blatantly disrespecting the amount of effort put forth by people that got no reward, including one that continued to work despite a brain tumor, but I figure that I'll leave it for someone that was around and knowswhat it took to finish.
If you want to bitch about the gameplay, write a letter to Infogrames. See if they care.
-
Hammerhead is a pretty good bot - now if you don't like that game get out.

Totally agreed, because they won't care. Especially since Infogrames is no longer in existence.

Infogrames is very much still in existence. They bought out Atari and adopted the more familiar name.
-
Oh, well then he can write to Atari, because they still won't give a damn.

True dat... unless of course he sends them a huge check alongside his complaint letter.

The people who made this mod werent forced to do it - they did it for their own enjoyment and there seems to be a community of people who like it. so i dont know how they didnt get anything out of it.
And i dont know why i would write a letter to infogrames about a mod a player made, but i guess you arent the smartest guy.
And while i dont like this mod, i really recommend you guys strengthen up your tutorials on these mods - as someone who just discovered these mods it was pretty hard trying to figure out what they do and how to solve crashes and bugs
-
I guess DSL isn't for everybody....
Most of the things you complained about are also present in the stock game though.
-
So, I'm a bit confused now... you're complaning about the gameplay of the DSL mod and not the entire game? Have you ever even played the original game before? If you have, then you'd know exactly how Infogrames released the game, and that everything you have complained about has nothing to do with the people who made DSL, or even the DSL mod itself. The "retarded scoring," etc. that you mentioned was how the developer thought the gameplay would be best. The creators of the DSL mod had no control over how the game played, and did their best to compensate with balancing the components, and adding more. Short of creating a "RA3," there was nothing they could do to solve the problems you see with the game.
You can complain about the game all you want. You're entitled to do that because you paid for it. Just don't whine about something that was done by a group of voulenteers just because they felt like they would be preforming a service to the community, especially something that couldn't be fixed.

Yeah, they would probably pay attention then. lol

Creating real robot combat physics in a game is a lot harder than you seem to think RF92. I have never seen a robot combat game that accurately represented real robot combat. Compared to most robot combat games, this one is pretty darn good so please stop complaining about it.
