So there I was, stumbling around in RA2 DSL, having some pointless fun, when I thought "Would it be possible to create an infinite amount of Chassis Points? After messing around in the chassis builder for about a half hour, I found out that it is possible, and can be done (in theory) in ANY COPY of RA2.
Here's how to make it work:
1. Boot up a copy of RA2, and head over to Team HQ. Then, create a new team (any name, any avatar).
2. Choose any empty bot file, and load it up.
3. Go over to chassis design, and choose "Draw Freeform."
4 (IMPORTANT PART). Uncheck Snap To Grid.
5. Try to position your cursor in the very, VERY top left of the chassis building grid. you might want to use high resolution, full screen, or movepixel to make sure it is at the limit of the grid.
6. If you have done this correctly, your cursor should register as being at point 0,0,0 on the game's X-Y-Z axis. (LOL BULLsh**)
7. Press Left Click twice. For some odd reason, the game allows you to place 2 chassis points in the same place only at 0,0,0, but, because of the natural coding of RA2, registers both of these points as just 1 point.
8. Press Right Click twice, to remove these two points. Because the game has mistaken these two points for just 1 point, the system that counts how many points are on your robot, instead of resetting to 0, resets to 255. This allows you to break the usual 16-point limit on the chassis designer.
9. This allows you to place as many points on the robot as you such desire. Normal building laws still apply, so you cannot place a bunch of points close together, but it's just a bit of added flexibility.
WARNINGS:
Using 'Step 2' to try and bend the chassis whilst using this method will crash the game. Instead, only adjust the height, and do not touch the points in Step 2.
Going back from Step 2 to Step 1 will crash the game.
If you export the bot, the bot will crash the game the moment it is imported. In some rare cases, you may get it to import, but it will crash the game when loaded up in a fight or in the bot lab.
It is HIGHLY recommended that you reset the game after building an infinate-point bot, so as to exile unwanted glitching. Doing this, but keeping it in your Teams folder, will not crash your game, for reasons yet unknown.

Enjoy your new glitching, fellow builders!

Nice, we're still finding new glitches even after almost 10 years. Does messing with the graphics settings stabilize the chassis at all, kind of like with the Trov glitch?
-
Nice work, I can only imagine what 123 can do with this...

Could possibly do. I'm not sure, haven't tested it yet, but from what I can tell, it works less with the High graphics setting than it does with the Low or Medium. Low and Medium seem about same-y.
-
Can't get this to work in Stock; I can only place up to one point in the top left... (my max game resolution is 1600 x 1200)
I didn't know that right-clicking deleted the previous chassis point though, so nice job on teaching me that lol.

All of my testing was done in DSL, so it could be entirely possible and probable that this cannot be replicated in Stock. We'll have to test it more.
-
Can't get this to work in DSL either. I'll try it more.
-
What resolution is this done at for you?
-
Can't get it to work either. Could you perhaps whip up a quick video or something, just for the sake of clarity?
-
inb4 photoshopped images.
-
fake and ghey
-
Tested it in DSL 2.1, and I can't get it to work. I thought the pictures looked a bit shopped as well. I'll wait until a video is posted, but I'm denouncing it as a hoax for now.

You guys just doing it wrong

And here's the bot file in bot exchange

Wouldn't leaving Snap to Grid checked make it easier to ensure that you're at (0,0,0)?
-
It's impossible to get to (0,0,0) with Snap to Grid on.
-
It's impossible to get to (0,0,0) with Snap to Grid on.
So the grid doesn't actually start at (0,0,0)... That's rather stupid.

Cmon FATPEX that screeny even looks shopped... not to mention there's no way you would know it reset to 255.
-
Cool!
I wonder if this could be mixed with the Trov Chassis glitch..
-
i dont really understand why you would need more than 16 chassis points..... i dont think ive ever reached 16 on any of my bots to begin with

For practical bot building there probably isn't much use for it.
However, for complex Replica Building or IRL bots... it might come in handy.
-
How did you even figure this out anyway? Seems too obscure for you to go screwing around and somehow find this out.
I say vid or GTFO.
-
I, for one, believe fotepx. Why would have he made such an elaborate hax ? Besides, 123 copied it, and i'm pretty sure you can't get over 16 chassis points with BFE anyway.
Of course, if it happens to be a fake, I will fist fotepx so hard you guys will have to mount an archeological expedition to find the bits of his exploded skull.
-
i'm pretty sure you can't get over 16 chassis points with BFE anyway.
Then how could the game create a bot file to represent bots with more than 16 chassis points? I personally don't really think Fotepx is lying, but it would be nice to have a video detailing how to perform the glitch.

...Makes sense. Yeah, what urjak said.

Can you post a picture for every step ? i'm not sure where the most left part of the bot lab is.
-
I say that he posts a video in a week showing how to do it or he gets fisted.
Edit:
The image he posted isn't proof:
You may as well ignore it, it's not proof at all. The only proof he has is his own word and 123's BFE pic.
-
Notice how the only members crying BFE are ones that know nothing about BFE? There's a reason for that.

yet you forget 123 uses bfe like all the time

LOL you guys are so f****g gullible.

Yet 123 already told some of us on Skype that it's impossible to BFE chassis point into a non-existent bot file. When you open the chassis grid on a BFE'd bot file it will crash the game. That means he couldn't have created the the bot file and then edited it.

photoshop, if i correctly understood this.

Gash you are such a buzz kill. Stop making sh** up HA. I just said anyone who tries to make a chassis like that using BFE will probably just crash the game.
From a technical standpoint anything that can be saved as a bot file can obviously be replicated in BFE. The technical challenges behind actually making a chassis like that with BFE is an completely different matter.
To give you guys an idea, I just open the bot file to check just how many lines the chassis object it. It spans from line 931 to 1170. Good luck finding anyone who can BFE 240 lines in without messing up and corrupting the save file.
-
Good god, is no one who knows this glitch (which could be quite useful to aesthetic-based bots) willing to simply make a demonstration video? That would put to rest the whole real vs hoax and also help the rest of us learn how to do the glitch.
-
So where did Foxpet go anyway?

just make demonstration video if this is ture
-
I can guarantee the game supports more than 15 points on a chassis, but the technique does NOT seem to be genuine because 123 used BFE to add sh**.
heck look at what i did with 123's bot file :
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/21149Sans titre.png)
and go check his file and go see how the baseplate line is.
So yeah. Turns out fotepx is full of sh**, but we learned something interesting out of it.
and yeah he just got muted.
-
Just cause I can use BFE to achieve the same result as Hax Mode doesn't mean Hax mode doesn't exist.
However I haven't tried this myself. I just don't see 123STW as someone who would support Foxpet in trolling us.
-
[user was muted for this lying piece of crap post]
Naryar's just mad 'cause he fell for it and was supporting it.
I was too, but I don't care either way.

the upper left point isn't 0, 0, 0, the center point is 0, 0, 0
so bullsh**

Foxpet is full of sh**. I told you guys you are doing it wrong.
I posted the strongest evidence "against" foxpet, has anyone downloaded the bot file and check the chassis design page you will know why Foxpet was lying without question. The game will visually only connect the first 16 points together no matter what.
Now just to be clear, BFE the actual chassis object is indeed next to impossible. What you do instead is add points to it using BFE for the design map save, then use chassis design in the botlab to make the chassis. But no there are no rollover garbage.

Here is evidence it is fake:

I am sure FAUXTEPX just used circles and lines from MSPaint, similar to picture I photoshopped.
