Title: Neebie question...
Post by: dustyz on September 24, 2009, 10:28:46 AM
I've been playing this game for a while... and really enjoy LANning it up with some friends. However, they aren't always around...

So... keeping the components stock, how easy is it to swap out the AI teams with something a little more challenging? Can I just add AI'd bots to the AI team directory... and label and organize them in folders like the others, or is RA2 limited to the number of AI teams? If it is limited, can I simply replace the existing teams with new AI'd teams?

If you have a walk-thru, that would be nice. (I tried searching, but "AI" is too small for a search)

No DSL stuff... just stock.

Thanks!

That "something a little more challenging" is called AI packs.

Get Starcore 1.0 in the download section, and overwrite your Stock RA2 AI folder with the AI folder in the RAR.

Much better, you'll see.

Cool.

I already have a modded DSL version... it's just *too much*, if you know what I mean.

Maybe that will be a good balance.

starcore is a good way to go, I jumped over to it when I first got tired of standard AI

NEVER.....NEVER, EVER tell somebody to overwrite their stock game!!!!!!
ALWAYS tell them to copy/paste their stock game and overwrite the copy and send the launcher to the desktop (and rename the icon) to launch the game

It's ok... I knew what he meant. I won't overwrite my original. I have DSL already, so I knew better.

No doubt, definitely more challenging. These bots really destroy my flippers and such. A person almost hasta build some type of spinning bot to keep up with these starcore bots.

Regardless, it's a learning experience.

So, is Hamachi the best way to play online? I saw some issues with lag in other posts. A friend and I were playing over Hamachi the other nite and the lag was horrible. Still, is it the best option?

Thanks again...

The internet will lag no matter what. It's much better to just give up the idea of playing a normal game online and just embrace the lag for what it is :D
