Title: My robot wants some fun
Post by: Zev01f on October 07, 2009, 02:32:12 AM
I recently created a bot that has defeated every ai bot their is....including the super heavyweights...I used components that I downloaded from this site..eg darkpacks and loose components...what I want to know is..what competitions can I enter it in? I would really like someone to write the AI for it as I know nothing of programming?

I am going to be honest, and this is NOT a personal offense.

You're using custom parts that unbalance the game - that is, you're cheating.

And you'll get absolutely NO respect for this, but scorn.

No serious builder uses custom parts.

And there are no competitions (we call these "tournaments") that allow these parts because they are unbalanced (= cheating) compared to normal parts.

That is all.

Well, as Naryar said, custom parts aren't allows in tournaments.  Though how much you cheat depends on what custom parts you are using.  Obviously using Fish or Burgers is not the same as Anti Ballast, Energy Spike, or Fridge Motor.

Aside from that, the only real place for them seems to be the "custom component" section, where you can post bots with custom parts.

I am FULLY aware of custom part building..I just wanted to know if there was a special comp that caters for it, that was all....I have plenty of standard part bots...

Well, if you like bots with custom parts, check out "Hammer of Judgment" by Firebeetle in the custom component showcase section.

Here's the download link

As far as AI goes, You don't need to write AI yourself as there are many preexisting AI script in the game.  However you do need to know how to import your bot into the AI.  There's a basic guide here. (It's the same procedure with or without Starcore V3)

https://gametechmods.com/?do=Guide_to_AIing

You would have to know how to import AI yourself because

1.  Team number varies depending on your ai pack
2.  AI varies depending on your bot
3.  Since your bot have custom components, most people wouldn't be able to open it to do the necessary modifications.

If you want your bot in a new team, you would need to make a new folder for it along with editing "teams.txt".  Stick with the replacement method if you can't figure out how that works.

Well if you enter a tourney like BBEANS you win a prize component, which you can use in the next BBEANS tournament.
