Title: I miss my beginning days of RA2.

i could probably build it almost exctly the same way again. it had steel armor, the huge box chassis made with the whole grid and default height, 4 redbird drive, fatboys, one DDT with one mace on an angler on it for a weapon. about 6 black batts.

Post by: Sorrow on May 08, 2008, 10:30:34 PM: Ahhh...my first combat-capable bot...it was a gigantic box, standard height. It used car steering for four wheels, and was an enormous face-spinner with an HP Z-tek, with only four razors on the disc. I also recall it being lime green...

Post by: SpyGuy on May 08, 2008, 10:58:40 PM: My first serious bot was TweakerBeater, a pop-up wedge runnning N-12's, a single black battery, and a bracket wedge flipper. That version had a pair of razor tips mounted off the sides so I could swing the nose back and forth to do damage, and had the mace doubling as a srimech. Most of you saw TweakerBeater in action during the BBEANS competitions, although that version was rebuild number five.

Post by: modder TY on May 08, 2008, 11:43:53 PM: My first bot was a box, almost maxed out width and lenght, just a little shorter then avrage hight, a HP Z-TEK with a tribar connecting more Z-TEKS that held saws, that thing barely beat EMERGENCY.

That sounds like a copy of my first bot only mine had also some weights in it. For the stability, you know.:grin:

I was one of the first to have RA2 and here is my first bot.......I thought I was gonna rule, WRONG, as soon as I got online I found I was dominated, but it was not long till I was the one feared with my overloaded HS bots.

It was an S&S that started out backwards, so I had to turn it at the start of every match (this was before I figured out the forward heading thing). It could beat EMERGENCY, but after that, I never really could easily beat EMERGENCY with any other bot I built until I joined the forums. Ah, the good 'ol days...

Post by: SpyGuy on May 09, 2008, 10:48:56 PM: I did the battle ax thing too. There was a S&S bot named Gold Digger that used a pickaxe on one end - I modified it so there were axes on both ends. Worked pretty well, too.

I thought this would beat all, whatever kind it might be. What a waist of time! Only, when I dicovered the forum, the bots I made began to make sense.

My first original bot was a 4 HP drive rammer with a lava paintjob. I also made a bot that designed to be like raptor, with a large box chassis, and a DDT with two iron spikes and a razor strip on it. It also had two iron spikes in the front, two razor strips in the back, and two razor strips on each side to protect the slipperbottom wheels; it had 4 hp drive and had only one black battery. The reason I like DSL is because the bots don't have to use glitches to be powerful (although it still helps), so you can still build bots that look more realistic and simple....

Lots of wasted space. I didn't realize how much weight was wasted. It's round chassis was max-ed out on the building grid, and it's height was the default height (not sure I even noticed the adjustment at first)....

it was Forest Ranger have big chassis and wheels...lol
and all other robots have the same big wheels, big chassis...until i first time played online(it was about 6 months later) and saw absolutely other design. From that time i began to build something crazy(for me) but still it was sh**...

i was chating online and one guy show me how to overlap batts and with servo...it was something like new technology to build better bots...later i found forum and saw other members showcase...and for me it was umbelievable and awsome robots! But u know later then i learned, began by myself to build better bots...:)

Post by: Rolo on July 02, 2008, 04:19:39 AM: My very first bot was a LW wedge shaped chassis with nothing on it. I thought "My steel armor will pay off". It couldn't even flip, just drive, and was actually good in arena's with pits. Good enough to beat the stock LW's, that is.

The first bot I can remember making had 6 HP Ztek drive and 3 pistons with iron spikes, arranged like this: \|/ Due its own nature(I couldn't fit enough batteries in!) it's what taught me that you don't NEED to supply 100% power =p

Post by: man manu on July 07, 2008, 09:57:04 AM: my first bot was pretty good against the standard AI. i made apussycat style bot with 4 hp z tecs for drive and 2 pistons with a spike on the end of each for weapons. i used 1 nifty and a small CO2 tank and i used to get really annoyed because it would go so slow after 10 seconds of battle lol
