Ok, I am very new to this game and have the latest version of DSL mod installed.
However I can't figure out how to build horizontal spinners or flippers.
All the motors I can find will only let me attatch a vertical disk to them, unless I am missing something obvious.
Can somebody please give me some help.
Thanks.

Dont use DSL if you are very new. it is seriously more complicated than the original game. Stick to stock RA2. To learn at least the basics.
Without mentioning that you will get destroyed by the DSL AI if you just learn to build, becuse they are built WAY better than the classic AI bots. DSL isnt a good choice for a beginner.
When you select a motor on the Components screen, you will notice there are some kind of brown and white small cylinders (some kind of a cord texture) extending from some points the motor. You click on them and they become more white;
They are more visible in stock RA2 (green rectangles). These are attachment points: to keep simple, these are the points where you attach the motor with the baseplate/other component.
Take a motor. Each attachment point lets you place the motor in a different way: just try to click all of them, and the way you can place the motor will change.

Is it possible, somebody didn't read the manual first?
It is all well explained in the tutorial, that comes with the game. Please red it!

Does anybody read the manual first?

Agreed, and go there too: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/589525/25307
More than a simple manual, nearly a soluce.

hahahah i laugh. DSL is actually way easier, considering the glitches you will have to master in RA2.
to get vertical discs, use the other connection point on the motor. (its a little tan thing that you click)

DSL is easier to build in, but harder to fight in. The enemies are built much sturdier and the AI is more vicious. I love how Batteries and Motors all tell you their inputs and outputs so you know how much power you really need. (I used to just keep throwing batteries in until I felt like it was enough rather than having a guide that could tell me how much my motor really needs to function.)
