I've noticed that some robots on the forums have higher resolution skins than mine. Whenever I apply a decal, it kinda becomes a glitchy mess, but on the other robots, the skin is pixel-perfect. Is there some kinda thing to make your decals render in high res, or...?

You probably save them with the default 64x64 dimensions. But decals and custom textures can have any matching dimensions that are powers of 2.

Well, how do I increase the resolution?

They're not decals, they're simply on the bot skin. You export the bot skin into an image editing program (I use Paint.NET), and resize the bitmap image to either 512x512 or 1024x1024. Anything higher is a bit of a waste, I reckon. Decals have got to be 64x64 24-bit .tga files, or they go all screwy.

Like this?

When you open the bot template skin in your photo editor, change the resolution to 1024x1024, 2048s2048, etc. then use high quality images.

When I change the size of the template, I can either have it increase to be all blocky, or increase it so as it's blurred (The Green outline). Which one should I pick?

Cut the green lines/ insides out to a transparent channel.. then resize, then lay your graphics under...
I usually then bin the top layer and bleed out the images so you have smooth edges when you apply.
Just make sure you use multiples and maintain the same ratio when resizing the templates.

I just open the template in paint, go to sketch/skew under image and stretch both horizontal and vertical by 200% or 400 % depending on what I need. Then save it and open it in gimp. Clean green outlines everytime.

Clearing the green lines before resizing allows you to use quick section or magic wand tools cleanly
worth noting that photoshop pushes up file sizes better then other programs but its clumsy work for this kind of thing so it doesnt make much difference
