Title: HIERARCHY
Post by: infiniteinertia on September 29, 2009, 07:27:05 PM
Can we get a forum hierarchy please?

I mean, if my posts can be controlled by admins and moderators, meaning they have control over everybody else, why not have other stages of rank and power as well? I mean it is only fair.

ADDED: Does it make sense for me to have the same rights as LRA2 or RM2444? How about newbies? Are they as good at giving advice or knowing about the history of the game or they way things are run?

Are the Admins and Moderators the only people in power? I thought a forum was a place from Ancient Rome and symbolized democracy? Power to the people? Not here...You can even make this a US Government, which in reality is a Hierarchy with just c and balances...but it is NOT fair for someone like Myself Sage or Scrap Daddy be among the same class as LRA2 Roboman and System32.

ADDED AGAIN: In the past there has ALWAYS been an hierarchy. When I was young to the game I did as I was told and never defied. I waited my turn. I lurked in the shadows of RA2 greats, and even with my limited knowledge, back then I still had differentiating opinions, but I never voiced them. But now the system has broken down and builders have not been 'raised' the same way as of recent. So when people dont read rules or dont follow directions or dont listen to advice or double post and silly stuff like that its because they dont LISTEN. And people need to LISTEN TO AUTHORITY. Its how all of us were raised and schooled, there is NO DENYING that.
MORE ADDED: I may not be in contention for an ADMIN spot anytime soon, nor is anybody else. But does my authority even exist in its common state right now? Not really, but people are still scared, hurt, and affected by what I say, so why not give ranks of power to prevent fallouts from happening in the future? It would HELP by limiting newB rants and disobediences as well as preventing the 'spamming' going on by alot of members on the forum.

-This is focused at RM and LRA2©-

I said to improve your attitude and stop posting junk....this is the opposite. All you want is to have power to flatten guys who disagree with you.

No thats false. Did I include you with the likes of the ninnys? No. My name says I am a veteran, but I am not treated like one... And you certainly deserve something more than the 1400+ Superheavyweight Rank next to yours.

So, what is it that you actually want? Admin powers against non-veterans? Post limits for non-veterans?

Even if your not an admin or mod and have to vote for something to happen, chances are it'll just have an outcome of things like banning LRA2 just because people dislike him.

Isn't it what the community wants? What it is now wont work, there is no order of semblance.

Middle management would do nothing but kill the community.  I mean the only reason anyone puts up with them is because they need the money from the job.

Maybe we should punish the people that were still in diapers in 04?

Your posts were deleted because you were slamming somebody for the way they voted.....That is not very democratic!
Members do move into a position of power, but they must be level headed and not ban the members.....the members make this forum....this is NOT aceuplink. Members can, and have been banned when they get way out of line, but a suspension usually controls the problem.

If everybody could ban, I am sure several would have banned you for that rant in the BOTM voting.

My internet is so slow it makes dial-up look like T1, you were ranting in the VOTE thread where chatter is not allowed.....VOTE ONLY......and I never said a word even tho you were working my ass off.

Opinions are like assholes....everybody has one, and you should not be able to force your opinion off on people just because some guy wants to vote for the splash more than the bot build.

Wow Inf, you had to steep this low.
I ask you this, why do you even bother? You act like a jack ass, you have to criticize on each builder, most of which is often negative, and is rarely useful.

Is there anyone on your side on this? I could care less about Roboman and LRA2, and the ignore button exists for a reason. I have seen other guys at my high school daily that act more mature than you do, IN THE FRESH MEN CLASS.

If you hate this community, leave then. Start your own forum. See if I care. Just stop the hate threads and posts.

He can make the rules for the next BOTM and criteria to vote on (even tho there will be at least one idiot not following the rules) I see where he is coming from as several people made kinda dumb comments......but it is their right. I think obongo should be banned from the US.....but I will never get my way.

How about it SomeSortOfChaos (https://gametechmods.com/forums/member.php?u=3676) errr....I mean infiniteinertia.....do you want to do the next BOTM, I mean all rules and voting criteria?

Wait why can't people vote base on looks for BOTM when we can do that during the presidential election?  Shouldn't people at least have to freedom to vote without getting banned?

wow I thin I missed something ???

Inf has been fairly nice to me through pm's and the such so I am not going to take sides in this but I will say...

I do think everyone (well not so much everyone) but take a step back, throw your lust for being the best and winning everything out the window and have fun, it is what games are all about. dont let others get on your nerves so much, just except people for who they are...

you dont have to like everything that everyone else likes, otherwise we wouldn't be unique in this world and at the same time everyone else doesn't have to like everything you like.. so there isnt a need to force beliefs on them

everyone can do there own thing and your entitled to your opinions about it but there is a difference between opinion and insult

thank you for your time

I feel like I've gone over this before, but the thread where I posted my rant on this seems to have been deleted (or I just can't find it). Anyways, here's what I think:

To me, many people here seem to be jumping on the "I-hate-InfiniteInertia" bandwagon because, realize it or not, it's cool to hate Inf. It's not. Before I hear all of the "but he flamed mee," and "he said i wus stuupidz" there's one thing that you guys (a good 99% of you) need to learn: you are not just given respect, it is something that you need to earn. Around here, that means becoming an excellent builder and making contributions to the community, as well as posting in a polite, orderly manner. Under these criteria, I think that InfiniteInertia deserves much more respect that he has got the past little while. He is one of the top builders that we have around here, and he has designed bots for SCv4.0, released a re-vamped version of stock (Re-Stocked), is working on a second AI pack, and has nearly finished hosting a tournament (Brawl of the Builders).

I can see what you're thinking now, and yes, I agree. He's a troll most of the time. I also think that he dosen't mean or want to be. "Blunt" and "direct" are probably the best words for this, but think of it this way: the words that human beings use to communicate account for a mere 6% of our impressions of what is said. The other 94% is stuff like speed, tone, body language, etc. To you reading this right now, I might sound angry or even defensive. I'm not, and I can't help what your impressions are of this. Really, I'm just trying to help all of you guys, but that probably wasn't what you thought I was doing. Being blunt and direct works in real life, but not over the internet. Many times, it sounds agressive and accusatory based on many things (attitude towards the poster, content of the post, topic being discussed, etc.). With all this in mind, it's not that hard to imagine this situation: Inf posts in a thread, someone misses the point and retaliates (retaliation is almost always an obvious personal attack), and Inf, seeing the retalitory post, can't figure out why someone's flaming him and fires back.

If you don't believe me, the next time someone posts something that sounds like it's a flame at you, don't post right away. Do two things: 1) Try to think what else they could mean by it. Read it in different tones, and see if any others could work. 2) DO NOT RETALIATE. It's the retaliation that starts the flame war, not the provoker. A simple "I'm not sure I follow you, could you please explain?" will work 500% better than a retalitory comment.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is that the people that are on the "we-hate-Inf" bandwagon are at just as much fault, if not more, than he is. You can never expect someone to respect you unless you respect them first, so don't count on anyone to be nice to you. You can only control what you say and how you come across to others, so make it good. No one's going to hold your hand on the internet.

A couple of last bits of advice: Inf haters, just stop it now. It's just stupid to hold a vendetta over the internet. And to Inf, being "blunt" and "direct" dosen't work well over the internet. Consider how people might take it before you post.

I feel like I'm a damn kindergarten teacher here...

Also, Inf, This Isn't a Nazi forum, and Only people who are great peacekeepers and great contribiters would probably be admins, So I can only see Urjee, joe and Pwnator as possible mods ATM.

However, I do feel we should have an extra forum for all you veterans here! :P

Rankings shouldn't mean a thing. I'm an ANTWEIGHT because I'm new to the forum. Inf, you don't know how long forum noobs have been playing RA2.  I've been playing since '04 but I only found this forum recently.

Basically, I think everyone should calm down.

Some people are newer than others, some people are better at building than others, some people are a lot more annoying than others, but we are a commUNITY. We are, almost, as one, in our shared interest/passion for bot bulding and this game.

Honestly this seems a bit arrogant to me. you flame and insult and then ask for praise and a position of power. You have been in the forums for a long time. You are one of the greatest builders. You ARE respected (look at your masterpieces thread), and I completely agree that there needs to be SOME sort of restrictions on newer members for.

I don't hate you.
You really aren't my favorite though.

But I do respect you and you probably should have SOMETHING more than the rest of the forums for your contributions.

this is the LAST robot arena 2 community left do we really want what we have ruined by fighting ? just think of what is actually at stake here ? if everyone starts hating one another and all leave there will no longer be things like...

DSL 3
Restocked
Nar AI
not to mention all the tournaments on here

face it we cant afford to loose it all from fighting with each other, we all need to put aside our differences, as I said before everyone is entitled to opinions but there is a difference between opinions and insulting someone. going "off your face" at somebody is really childish, face it your basically throwing a tantrum like the 2 year old at "toys are us" and I think 99% of people on here are better then that :-D

so lets work together and make it a happy environment for everyone to enjoy as that is what most people come on here for... enjoyment

:-D
