The 10 year anniversary of RA2. By then we'd have come a long way blah blah mushy stuff whatever who cares.

Seriously, we need to do something epic for it.

A MUSIC VIDEO

A MEGA TOURNEY

BELUGAMAN VS A MILLION EMERGENCYS

etc

Making this thread now so we have time to plan for whatever epic event that will transpire before we all go braindead due to having no more ideas for RA2 bots.

SO what shall we do?

A REVERSE TOURNEY.

explanation: build the worst bot possible and go against each other, the person to come first is actually the loser, and those who go out in the first rounds are winners.

Not to mention everyone would just build a bot without drive.

Make special 'commemorative' versions of all the major RA2 tournaments, all to be released that day? I mean, for the tourneys run by people who aren't around anymore, someone else could do them. I'd volunteer to do one of either my own or an old-school one, I doubt my own are really big enough, and a mini-RIMP wouldn't work :P

I had an idea that an RA2 10th Anniversary Pack could be made, with some of the most recognisable, successful and innovative bots of the past ten years, maybe with some arenas of the same nature too. Not too sure which bots would go into it, though, but I think it should definitely be Stock, DSL didn't come along until a few years later.

We could delete all of our RA2 files and destroy any hard copies still floating around to comemorate how outdated the game is.

Nah, but seriously, the video of milestone, breakthroughs, and just plain epic moments sounds like a good plan. I don't think it should be a one-person job, though.

Could have the original Drumblebee, as well as Drumblebee 5, I suppose. Maybe some of the Stock BotM winners.

I think I'm going to take this idea and run with it...

I will try to get ahold of wakkydude, since he did a great job on the GTM Thread Simulator. I will probably need more volunteers, though.

I will make a thread for all of this later today to get ideas and take suggestions.

Anyone that has any good content from the official boards, AceUplink, RFSHQ, or the other defunct RA2 sites just laying around, get it rounded up... We are going to need it.

you could also display the building styles.
first there where the noob warz like bots. then they got improved to Starcore level. Same with DSL. And now we have IRL building.

My ideas.

1. GTM's 100 greatest bots list.
2. Something like Restocked but in lv1, 2, 3, 4, 5,  (One being vanilla game level and five being hard as heck)
3. Every active member enters a tourney of Stock MW but with most signature-like bot and changed blah blah you get the picture
4. A 10th anniversary themed webpage
5. RA2's 100 greatest moments (Both game and forum.)

And that is what I have.

I actually quite like the sound of that. I just like listing stuff, though, being able to quantify it. There would need to be a definite panel of judges, members that have been around for a long time, and preferably near the top of the building ladder.

Agreed. But I think there should be two lists, one for DSL and one for stock. And possibly different judges for each.

I think less "reskinned", more "remixed". How about having the arena floating, like the Keznorg IGC arena? That would be cool.

I was thinking completely new arena. Though I can't do arena, at all. I only have Joe & Serge in mind who could do one..

I have a 10th Anniversary Combat Zone skin I made to commemorate RA1's 10th, was going to come out in Backlash, but we all know how that turned out..

But yeah, I plan to dust off my XP at some point and copy over all my RA2 files to my External Harddrive then I can fish out that arena skin..

How will you do any gaming on a Mac!? Don't say you'll use WINE. It sucks and we all know it.

Starcraft 2 and Portal/2 are the only PC games I really got into and both compatible with OSX, so im set  :gawe:

how about instead of just a botpack, we make a 10th anniversary ai pack, including legendary/infamous bots and arenas (and the 10th anniversary skin if joe lets us/releases it), including such ones like:
- the stock bbeans champs
- the most notable bots from stock ai packs
- team SPARK from stock ai (emergency)
- any more of the most innovative/most combat worthy/iconic designs that we can find (digital apocalypse, absolute chaos, sftw)

team0 would be team spark (the oldest), and team14 (or whatever the last one happens to be) would be the newest one

...Why would we do that? Please don't start a "fishing for compliments" campaign. I had a friend that did that, and nobody even talked to him anymore because it's honestly one of the most aggravating things in the world.

I can't believe I wasted 10 years of my life on a game.I remember camping out outside of EB Games when I was 5 waiting for this game to be released.Now 10 years later,I'm here and I'm amazed at how much times have changed.I remember the first time I ever watched Robot Wars,and now I have to go to Youtube to watch it. :gunz:

Besides the obvious large projects, I think it would be cool if everyone tried to release something independently. I understand that not everyone knows how to mod but they could certainly utilize their other skills to make something else (such as a video, a picture, or even a bot). The involvement of the community instead of just a few individuals would allow us to release new content throughout the day and make the day that much more special.

I dedicated the entire day to RA2, though more to UI design than developing actual bots. I do, however, have a bot planned out, which I'm going to make up as soon as I get the opportunity
