DSL LAN PROBLEM
« on: September 01, 2011, 10:01:42 AM »
hi i this is an imergancy i hope you could read it through and give me a reply  :rage

i got dsl 2.1 from here, i installed the patch 1.3 to its directory, now i copied the folder of it all to my brothers computer, runned it, i hosted a local server, on his computer, it shows up and everything but we click join and it does nothing, sometimes it saying joining in 10,9 ect and does nothing

then i found out that if you edit the config to allowmultiplayermods or something to 1 it will work solve some issues but i think this is something else, that im not sure what

maybe, i just saw that there is a 1.4 oatch on here i guess ill try that now but does anyone know anything?

also does anyone know if you mod multiplayer, say eneable ai in it and tournemtns/the single player events for multiplayer or just something like that  :baby_smily:

THANKS I really appreciate you all for reading and hopefully solving this probablem, this game has alot of potensial to be my favorites if the lan can work

Many things to address here..

1) DSL 2 is a separate conversion from Robot Arena 2 "Stock" So it needs it own patches (2.1 patch as you listed) the 1.4 patch is only for the standard version of the game

2) the 1.4 patch doesnt supply any multiplayer content, the patch was made by me and only unhides the missing components that are in the game but dont show up in the botlab (plus provides a few extra treaks and mods for them by me)

3) If you have a correctly setup lan connection it will work.. if your not so network savvy try installing hamatchi (or similar) on both computers

4) There is no mods for enabling single player tournaments in a multiplayer situation, this cannot be done unless we had the exe source code which is believed to be long lost..

I think its possible to make the ai be able to fight in multiplayer matches.BUT they MUST be the same ai pack.
And get DSL 2.1 from Zogs sig.Ive seen a lot of posts from him so finding his sig should be cake walk.
Or just download hamachi.
And no more patches are coming due to the fact DSL 3 is being worked on.And dont pester click about when its coming.

Your best bet is to download a ready to run version(s) of the game

All you need to do is extract and play, all the installing is done for you (and the cost of a bit bigger download size)

You can find the Stock 1.4 ready to go just below in my signature..

And DSL 2.1 ready to go can be found here Thanks to the user "Sage"..

http://raw.gametechmods.com/Shhhh/DSL21.rar

Make sure both games are identical (extract a play links just above will ensure this) and ping your lan connection between the 2 computers..

If they are setup right, you should be able to go into multiplayer and choose the Lan options (not internet servers as there is none) if that fails you could try direct IP but Virtual Lan programs like Hamachi would be better..

i have, i downloaded the one on this webiste under patches, it is a pre installed one. "DSL V2.1 FULL DOWNLOAD"

i would usually have some kind of idea what's wrong but i don't, the server is found but i click it and click join but nothing happens, ive even tried joining with the ip address, but still nothing

ive looked at the config and changed the port to the one i use on minecraft but that doesnt do anything, ive just re downloaded it copied it to the other computer and ran it, still same problem

i guess what i could try next is using hamachi even though my computers are next to each other, or try using to robot wars 2 original

You could just use one PC considering you are in the same house.
Better than GK since 2009.

The countdown thing is often the result of one or both of the computers being blocked by a firewall.

still didn't get it working in the end, I've had trouble with lan on older games lile age of empires 2, I forgot if dsl needed a serial key but it might of been because they had the same serial.

But anyway, I'll try again when I get my new system so both machines are on windows 7  :gunz:
