Yes it's true... you can see a glimpse of what's going to be in the mysterious DSL 2.0.
One of the things to be included in DSL 2.0 is all new AI bots (this is why you haven't seen any new bots from me or FB - we've been busy with these!). Remember the stock AI? The really horrible bots that come with the game that have always been beat up on and ridiculed? Well, they're BACK in DSL with some really tough bots, and they're hungry for some revenge
One new bot will be posted on a weeklyish basis (possibly with some other stuff thrown in too).
I'll start the sneak peeks with Red Zone's new lightweight Scout (same name but new design). I'll tell you that it's a flipper, and a powerful one, but I'll leave the rest up for you to discover on your own when DSL 2.0 is released.
-
Will we still have replica ai as well?
-
:) The RFS AI Pack 1.0 was meant to be all upgraded Stock AI. When I realized how incredibly hard and unnecessary it was to keep the same chassises and stuff, I scrapped it and 3 months later made the new RFS AI Pack.
-
some one posted how cool darkrats new mudrunner was any way you can post a pic of that next week and i think thats the name ^ its the hillbilly one with mud tires and two firemans axes
-
Will we still have replica ai as well?
Yes, it is 6 bot teams, the first three bots being new AI and the last three being replicas.
-
Here is sneak peek bot #2. Red Zone's middleweight RED ALERT is the sequel to ALARM. It's a poker just like the original, but much more powerful - those are 60kg hammers on it. From testing, I think this is going to be one of the toughest bots to beat.
-
What if you flip it over? :O
 j/k I like how youre keeping them all like they used to be, if you look closely in RFS AI pack 1.0 each robot is the same type that it was replacing. (IE, robot 1 from Team 1 was a flipper just like scout)
-
Whats happening with Emergency, Eye poker and Bear because they worried me alot when i started playing RA2
-
Eye Poker might be lower to the ground and have about a couple of spikes on pistons, Bear will probubly have spinning bear claws on exenders and have a better chassis design, and Emergency will probubly have 1 powerful flipper.
-
I always thought emergency cheated, over weight.
-
Nope. It was actually the only bot that was even close to 800 kg. All the rest of the HW bots ranged from 400-550 kg. In the new AI they are all close to 800 kg.

Right, wrong, wrong.
-
Here's the last bot from Red Zone. Second Sentinel deviates a lot from the original in terms of design, but it is still a flipper. It is so powerful that I just can't resist showing a picture of it in action, so this week you get a bonus screenshot! SS is a very tough opponent in any arena where you can get flipped out.
-
That's cool. Will there br new teams aswell as revised ones?
-
Probably. Not many though. Just a few.
-
Hope we see new replicas. They're always good to see.
-
Upgraded AI, literally? Awesome as heck!
What the heck are you going to do to Ronin though?
*imagines the most armored wedge ever*
-
Well, some of the stock AI bots were just so... under-weaponed that we had to add some weapons to make them any good. Ronin, for example, and Lug Nut. We also wanted to change the weapons on some bots for a more balanced crop of AI. Think of it like Ankle Biter: at first it was manily a wedge bot with a little saw blade inside, but in BB season 5 it turned into a big, gnarly vertical spinner that was tons more powerful (not suggesting that Ronin is a VS now, but it could be, you'll have to wait and see).
So most of the new AI bots are very similar to the bots they were based off of, but a few are pretty different.
-
Is the release date still TBA, or is there a tentative date yet?
-
It will be released when it's done.
Using my future sight to predict the next question that will be asked:
When will it be done?
Dunno. It's hard to predict how long it will take to finish everything. If it was just the new AI, I'd guess... oh... a month at most. But of course there is other stuff too. Most of it's supposedly done but it hasn't been uploaded so other people can test it (hint, hint).
-
Just one more question outa me, then I'll be silent. Will there be any hovering AI bots? I've always wanted to kick a flier's butt.
-
I've also got a question. Are you actually doing some of our suggestions or was that just for fun?
-
I've also got a question. Are you actually doing some of our suggestions or was that just for fun?
I am waiting on good suggestions for parts....
Cars and/or parts
Tanks and/or parts
Artillery and/or special weapons
Someone wanted a skull, but I am still working on getting the poly count down.
-
You want a suggestion for a tank? Try a Bolo, mark XX-XXV.
-
Aren't guns and tanks what the n00bs on the RA-Reborn wanted?
-
Aren't guns and tanks what the n00bs on the RA-Reborn wanted?
What do you n00bs here want?
-
Hovering AI: Me and FB are at least planning on another AI team that may have a hoverbot in it.
Suggestions: What ACAMS said, basically. Most of the member suggestions so far have been arenas and replicas. Arenas and replicas take a lot of time and disk space. There will be some new ones in DSL 2.0, but no way can all of your suggestions be made.
Sneak Peek of the Week: PREHISTORIC's lightweight rammer, Roly Poly (we couldn't think of a better name that went with the same theme, so we kept it the same). It features the same four-wheel drive as the original, much more ramming power, and a greatly improved skin (the original was plain green). A pretty tough opponent, although there are tougher ones.
-
Aren't guns and tanks what the n00bs on the RA-Reborn wanted?
Ra-reborn was pretty damned close to newb free.
-
Aren't guns and tanks what the n00bs on RA-Reborn wanted?
Ra-reborn was pretty damned close to newb free.
Oh. It's just I heard a quote of AU about n00bs on RA-Reborn and how much they wanted guns and lazers.
-
Hovering AI: Me and FB are at least planning on another AI team that may have a hoverbot in it.
Yes!
-
Now that the forums are back up, here's 3 more of the new AI.
PREHISTORIC
Saber Teeth, sequel to Saber Tooth, has active jaws instead of the fixed jaws of the original. It's one of the easier bots to beat because the teeth fall off fairly easily, but against some designs it is very effective (like bots with exposed sides).
Grog, the Vengeful is the replacement for Grog, the Warrior. This bot is the most different from the original bot; the reason for the shell spinner design instead of the traditioinal axe is because there was only one heavyweight spinner in the stock AI (Backyard Ripper) and three hammers (Grog, Raptor, and DEADBEAT), so Grog was turned into a nice, big, gnarly spinner to balance out the designs more. He has a lot of weapons, but a slow spinup time makes Grog possible to defeat without having more weapons.
The Good Ol' Boys
Hammerhead Shark is the sequel to Cat Fish. It looks pretty different, but it keeps the same basic chassis design (only a lot flatter) and has much more ramming power with 2 55 kg hammers. This bot is nearly invincible head-on; you'd better be able to hit the top, bottom, or sides of HS if you hope to beat it.
-
Why does GtV have a CF panel sticking out the top?
-
That's so if it gets flipped, it doesn't go onto its back and it's easier to tip back on its wheels. A srimech of sorts.
-
Sneak Peek of the Week:
Blood Runner, sequel to Mud Runner. Blood Runner has a Kumite-style design, with a small vertical spinning weapon that is still deadly if the other bot gets under it. It also has a unique chassis divided into 2 halves (no, they can't rotate like Flexy Flyer, unfortunately) and a nice offroad 4 wheel drive system like Mud Runner. It's not one of the tough bots becuase of the exposed chassis and wheels (even after the HP of mud tires was increased), but it adds some variety to the selection of AI bots.
-
I'm guessing that either one half is a custom part or you have a really small bridge where the VS is.
-
Really small bridge.
-
Hah! Guessed it!
-
Time for another one. For those of you that are wanting to see something other than new AI bots by now, never fear! Pretty soon (maybe next week) I'll be posting something different. What it will be is a surprise.
For now here's The Good Ol' Boys' new heavyweight, Grisly Bear. With a dustpan-like shape and four claws coming from all directions, it can give a serious bear hug to its opponents. The bear claws were balanced with the rest of the weapons and will be available as cheatbot2 components in DSL 2.0.
-
Here it is! Today's sneak peek is of a new arena to be included, the Ocean Platform. One of Firebeetle's old projects that was pretty much abandoned, but was revived for DSL. The arena is self-explanatory: a raised platform above an ocean. If you fall in the water, all your bot's electronics short and you get eliminated. It also features a vertical spinner hazard at each edge powerful enough to fling you into the ocean if you hit them the wrong way. They lie flat with the floor when hazards are off to make a perfectly flat fighting space if you don't like them.
-
Good work, CB. When though are you going to make the BB more acturate?
-
Well I know FB isn't going to update the Battlebox anytime soon... those screw hazards are too complicated to make with grape crates (his arena building blocks). Plus he's already working on another, bigger arena project... something that's never been done before, going to be very cool and very fun... you'll just have to wait to see it. If the Battlebox is going to get updated it would be goose or ACAMS that did it and I don't know if they're planning to.
The Ocean Platform was made by FB btw. Not me. He does all the arenas and I do all the replicas and parts.
-
I've also got a question. Are you actually doing some of our suggestions or was that just for fun?
I am waiting on good suggestions for parts....
Cars and/or parts
Tanks and/or parts
Artillery and/or special weapons
Someone wanted a skull, but I am still working on getting the poly count down.
Isn't there already a skull? I believe it was Dummy's Grim Reaper Skull "Unhooded." Right?
-

Oops. Sorry.
@FB-Great job, FB. ;)
-
Doesn't that robot with all the bars look like one in the robot wars game... anyway... love the arena! I just don't see why it was abandoned... but wsn't there some grape crate arena that was made entierly of grape crates... anyway nice! I can't wait...
-
Time for another sneak peek! We're back to the new stock AI bots this week, but next week will be something else again (probably a new real robot replica).
This is Team Dragon's new lightweight, Ninja Assassin, packing an impressive E-Tek motor for weapon power! One of the most powerful vertical spinners, if not the most powerful, in the pack, but it is also one of the most fragile bots. Once again the ninja stars are balanced with the rest of the weapons in DSL and will be available as cheatbot2 parts.
-
Are Darkrat and Starcore even still around?
-
Nope. Darkrat hasn't visited this forum for a month, I think his last visit was before the forum went down (edit: I was talking to Goose and he told me that Darkrat did leave), and Starcore has been gone for a long time.
The DSL development team is now Goose, ACAMS, Clickbeetle, and me. There are also the beta testers.
-
Oh. :( I'm sad now.
-
Well Darkrat and Starcore are still technically part of the team; it's not like they were kicked off or anything. But they probably won't be contributing much anymore. Darkrat did make a few things for DSL 2.0 a while back though. They'll be included if they ever get uploaded to the site...
-
So 1 main member's dead, and the other 2 buggered off. Do you think it's time for a name change?
-
No, they did a lot of stuff and were the main developers of DSL.
-
DarkRat is still the Man in charge with the final say.
I am sure he is just on a much needed break.
-
No, they did a lot of stuff and were the main developers of DSL.
So? Darkrat and Starcore didn't say they were going on a vacation. They just abandonned us. That's what it seems to me.
-
For this weeks's peek, I give you... as you might have expected... Bulldog Breed! He's a middleweight in DSL and a very resilient flipper.
This (http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/8479/bulldog29ib.jpg) is the version of the real bot this replica was based off of.
-
That replica truely kicks ass. ;)
-
II hope Darkrat and Starcore will come back... I hope...
-
Today's sneek peek is Samurai, the improved Bushido. It's sort of like a popup, but it's realistic. It also works as a chopper bot.
-
Nice! I like it...
-
frenZy fans rejoice: in DSL 2.0, that short little 90 degree hammer has been extended to twice its previous length (approximately the length of the real hammer) and swings back and forth through a 180 degree arc!
Before anyone gets their hopes up: No, that's not a burst motor. 180 deg burst motors are still impossible, unfortunately. The hammer is swung by a limited spin motor like the hammer motor in FB's component pack.
Animation of the updated frenZy swinging the hammer. You can see how it could be a threat to spinners.
-
No frenZy fans? I'm surprised.
Here's a very stylish HW bot you'll get to fight in DSL 2.0, complete with spiked wheel guards and decorative flags. Shogun, the upgraded Ronin from Team Dragon, now has four katanas in its wedge for a weapon. It leaves about 100 kgs of weight unused, but it's still one of the toughest contenders in the pack due to the popup wedge type design (although Shogun is a much more realistic design than the stock RA2 popups).

Nifty, and frankly more accurate anyhow. I have not used the FB pack so I don't know anything about a limited spin motor. How much damage does it actually cause? Will we be seeing this used in other hammer bots (Overkill, Judge, Killer/Terror/Beta Hurtz, Diesector, etc.) ?
-
Alright.
Well back to that AI thing. If you are enough quick you get out of the mayhem but when you start all AI bots are aiming to you.
Could you make it so that they randomly pick someone to who attack to.
-

The motor has enough power to swing just about any weapon with good speed, so damage is only slightly less than it would be with a burst motor.
As for other bots using it, you might just see one... this Friday
-

I'm betting it's the new Jackpot.
EDIT: Is Dark Rat even aware of this?
-
The day this actually finnishes, it will be a miracle and this pack will own. I have to admit that I don't use DSL anymore, it never did interest me too much. But now that I see that you are improving the original stock bots, I am much more exited to play.
-
Yeah, it will seem like a miracle when this gets done since it's been so long in the making. But it's honestly almost to the beta testing stage now.
And since it's Friday, here is another bot that uses the 180 degree spin motor to power a hammer.
Beta is a heavyweight bot you'll be fighting against in 2.0. It's a very tough opponent if you have no way of getting under it.
And here's the picture I based the replica off of. (http://www.johnhmreid.dsl.pipex.com/beta/progress/beta.jpg)
-
That's it. I'm re-installing for this one.
-
That's amazing. So will there be a few more British bots in DSL:TC 2.0?
-
so is this the brithish terrorhurtz? it looks awsome i like the transusent parts on it makes it look really good
great job dsl team
-
No. This is Beta, made by the people who made Terrorhurtz for RW(who are British). Beta was made for BB, but broke down or something.
-
Nice replica.
Question: If you take out some of the current AI bots, will we still be able to use the old ones in the team HQ?
-
None of the old ones will be taken out, new teams will be added.
-
With DSL 2.0 closer than ever to completion, you'll now get to see an entire team of the new AI instead of just one bot! This week is BLACK STORM.
LW: BOT-205 It may not look like a very tough opponent with only a single large saw blade, but looks can be deceiving. BOT-205 is a fast, dangerous wedge/vertical spinner combo that will be under and cutting up your bottom before you know it.
MW: Devil II A very fast, heavily armored wedge bot with a row of spikes at the top to impale its victims' undersides. The spring-loaded spikes can also flip opponents on occasion.
HW: Industrial Coal Miner You might call IDC the Rabid Pit Bull of DSL. Fast drive, good armor, and 3 spinning discs arranged in a traditional digging tool pattern will make short work of its opponents.
-
Cool. It would be neat if you could skin those armor plates so the robots would look nicer, but good job overall. Can't wait till' the release!
-
It's late, but it's still Friday!
This is the current version of M.O.E. that will be replacing the older version in DSL v1. A few people might have seen me post this in an old thread on the official forums a while back, but nobody has yet seen it skinned and with the belt guard on top.
M.O.E. is an extremely tough opponent, much tougher than most of the stock AI. It's like the uberchallenge bot where if you can beat it, your bot is instantly recognized as pro material. Yet, fortunately, it's not cheat-type or invincible like the AU Battlebots. It is actually much LESS powerful than it should be for its weight, and the chassis is perfectly exposed (if you can reach it).
Here is a photo of the real bot. (http://www.robotcombat.com/images/bbsf02/large/moe.jpg) I know the stickers on the blade are missing, but that blade is pretty much impossible to skin accurately because there is so much distortion. If I find I have extra time to put finishing touches on DSL though I will attempt to fix that.
-
YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONE OF THE BEST REPLICA HERE!!!
sorry for caps but seriously it's the best I saw... and I'm now back with gaming on DSL!
-
Sorry for late post. I had to go on a 2-day field trip for one of my classes and I forgot to tell FB to post Team SPARK here.
Well anyway here they are:
LW - BROKE!: You could always get the jackpot against Team SPARK's old bot. Against their new one, you'll probably get BROKE! :P
MW - The Boxer Returns: This bot is a very specialized design. It doesn't stand a chance against some bots, but against others it is a sure knockout.
HW - CRITICAL EMERGENCY: Everyone's favorite stock AI heavyweight is back for more utter domination of the arena! It flips higher, drives faster, kills faster, and is more annoying than before. CE will flip you and have you gored on its spikes before you know it.
-
Umm...
Boxer's fists are wrong way. Now it keeps it's fists upside down.
 Do you box keeping your hands upside down?
-
I like the new Boxer and Emergency. I wonder what kind of insane burst motors are powering those flippers on CE.
-
Mag snappers. By the way, the next sneak peek coming is going to be a fun one!
-
*Sneaks in and paste up the pic*
New Logo and Overall Style for DSL2
(http://www.vincent.blueforgefire.net/dsl2/DSL2preview.jpg)
*Sneaks away*
...pss.. where's my "DSL team" rank?
-
This looks suspicious... to clear things up: Yes, Vincent IS on the DSL team and he is making new menu graphics. Quite good ones too.
I suppose since Firebeetle mentioned it, I have to show you this fun sneak peek. But I'm not going to say what it is (and post more screens) until next week  Until then you'll just have to guess.
Edit: Oh yeah, Mr. Weedy - I know the 'gloves' look to be the wrong way, but there's a reason for it. They protect the pistons a little better that way.
-
ZOMFG a stunt couse sweet thats bad ass lol good job dsl team
-
Lol map's meaning is that who wreaks up his/hers robot first doing maniac stunts is the winner. x)
-
More stunt arena screenies! Yes, you were right, this arena is a huge space full of jumps and loops and stuff for the sole purpose of doing stunts with your bot (or just goofing around).
Also, what do you all think of Vincent's graphics? Even though you haven't seen the best ones yet.
-
One more.
-
that stuff looks totally insane and his graphics are nice but why is the timer counting the bot out? that makes no sense
-
Can't you see the other bot in the caged area? He's stuck in there with boredom while he's having fun with stunt course.
-

will the bottom be dimond plate or will it still have the tire texture? and can you make a version with the bar with the bolt on the end that was used aganst the matador in battlebots season 7.0
-
Changing the tire texture to diamond plate isn't done, but it would be easy enough to do. As for the bolt, I'm not sure what you're talking about. There was no Battlebots season 7.0... the last one was 5. But if you have any pics of this bolt hammer, post them and I'll see if I can do it.
Anyways, here are the new Spike Heads for DSL 2.0! They're bigger, tougher, and more neurotic than before!
LW - Raving M.A.D.: A (very) zippy little rammer that remains one of the toughest LW's despite all the problems with rammer AI. Spinners beware!
MW - iNsAnItY: One of the more innovative designs in the pack, iNsAnItY packs a Beta burst to power its lifting arm. The arm can be used to flip bots, or to crush them when it comes back down, since that huge motor has so much torque. The AI will employ both uses of the weapon, so watch out!
HW - Big Metal Friend: Arguably the heaviest armored bot in the pack with two layers of armor plus a wall of spikes in the front, it will take an insanely powerful spinner to rip through this thing. That is, if you don't get embraced in its 'loving' arms first!
Note that BMF uses spiked clubs as extenders to hold on the hammers. That's another nasty little trick you'll be able to do in DSL 2.0
-
sorry about that it was in season 5.0 when frenzy battled matador, he used a titanium bar sticking out of the front or the robot with a bolt sticking up on the end to prevent the matador from flipping him.
-
been waiting FOREVER whens next sneak peek or did you do them all!? lol
-
been waiting FOREVER whens next sneak peek or did you do them all!? lol
sneek peaks are every friday
-
yeah so its almost been 2 fridays if not 3 or 4
-
no its been since last friday click posted on october 21 and they looked so cool it was team spike head
-
We'll be skipping ahead this week to the last stock team, The Scrappers. Instead of having 3 real robot replicas as the other 3 bots in their team, they have... these.
We all know how much players like not just destroying their opponent's control board, but completely and utterly dominating their opponent, tearing off as many pieces as possible and laughing maniacal, evil laughter as debris litters the arena floor like snow  And DSL 2.0 delivers.
When a Tornado Went Through a Junkyard, The Stuff of Champions, and Wreck Tangle are all junk bots using the 'useless' AI parts, specifically designed with maximum 'shredability' in mind. They make excellent targets for when you just want to totally destroy something.
Oh, and on a related subject: All of those AI parts will be available as cheatbot2 components in DSL 2.0, so you'll be able to make some scrap bots of your own if you want, although it won't be considered stock.
-
wow nice those are amazing they look useless and like hunks of crap to smash but this is good i am one enjoys slaughting robots
-
hey guys,
i'm new to the game but i've caught up very quick. i'm really into the DSL
version of the game, once you get that there is no going back. anyway
i, like many others cant wait till version 2.0 comes out. i check back here often so keep posting on the progress of 1 of only 2 video games to hook me like a crack habit.
thanx.
-
then Welcome :D,woot 100th reply
-
The North Polers have the most dangerous hammer bots in the pack, as well as the most powerful pushy bot. Don't mess with these guys unless you know what you're doing
LW - Tip of the Iceberg: With good drive power, a devastatingly powerful pickaxe, a snow plow for pushing you around, and surprising balance, it will be hard to remember that this bot is only the tip of the iceberg.
MW - Iceberg: Like Tip of the Iceberg, but faster, stronger, and more powerful. The arch nemesis of shell spinners everywhere. The plow is a reskinned heavy snowplow.
HW - Snow Job: It doesn't have any real weapons, but what Snow Job does do it does well: shove the other bot like it's not even there. The front of this bot is so well armored, you almost need a hammer or get-under type weapon to defeat it.
-
nice but these look a little simple compared to what has been posted guess il have to see them in action
-
Well originals were also very simple. Do you remember the real snow job? It was just a box with plow and 4 wheels on it.
-
yeah i thought that one was really cool but it was the other 2 i liked how the old ones klinda looked like glaciers dont take it as if im trying to take away from the patch im sure their ballteing is good but they arent visually appealing
-
im sure their ballteing is good but they arent visually appealing
I'm sure watching them tearing your bot up is visually appealing enough,
-
Rooting for you guys! Greetings from the void and happy holidays!
Starcore
-
yay starcore's still around now what about darkrat.....
-
doesnt look like hes staying i thihnk he might just be droping in to say hi
-
i hope the sneek peak this week is a good one speeking of the sneek peak, its friday and still no sneek peak....
-
what its thursday lolz
-
what its thursday lolz
That was Wednesday... Now it is Thursday. *sighs*
-
what its thursday lolz
That was Wednesday... Now it is Thursday. *sighs*
oops the 3 days off off school really screwed me up lol
-
These replica bots aren't new, but they have never before been AI opponents. In DSL 2.0, though, they will be!
From upper left going clockwise: Buster Blade (BW, Darkrat), That Darn Dustpan! (LW, Clickbeetle), Hworf (MW, Clickbeetle), The Judge (HW, Clickbeetle).
These bots have all been DSL'd and AI'd and make some nice tough additions to the replicas. Especially That Darn Dustpan, which will scoop you up, pin you against a wall, lower the saw arm, and slice up your helpless bot just like the real thing (courtesy of some custom AI code).
-
omfg i love hworf and the judge great job this make the anticipation of dsl even greater with ever post you make
-
HIGH VOLTAGE
LW - FlipJack: Arguably the most powerful lightweight flipper bot, FlipJack is also a well armored wedge that will prove to be an annoying opponent at the very least.
MW - SlashBack: A REALISTIC popup wedge? That's right, SlashBack has the damaging and flipping qualities of a popup wedge in a realistic package. This one is a major threat to spinners.
HW - WIIDE LOAD: Since there weren't any in the stock AI, we decided to turn WIDE LOAD into a drum bot to increase the variety of designs. And what a drum bot! My personal favorite design in the pack, it fights almost as good as it looks.
Notice the Little Drummer Boy-style drum on WIIDE LOAD - those beater bars on it are new components in DSL 2.0, and they have many more uses than just drums too :) The shine on the drum is just a cool reflection map effect that I did that will also be part of DSL 2.0.
-
When will this pack be out do you think? I can't wait! :)
welcome to the fourum ewan, as for dsl 2.0, it will be out out when when its out
-

welcome to the fourum ewan, as for dsl 2.0, it will be out out when when its out
and that WHEN is NEVER!
 MUAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAH!
.......ok, it'll come soon before new year, most likely.
if not... then we're screwed. lol
-
I'm taking kind of a risk posting this for this week's sneak peek since I'm still not 100% sure it will work out  But I'm sure enough!
Tired of having to load down your chassis with extra components to avoid getting killed in 1 hit? Just apply some of the new 10 mm steel armor - almost 7 times stronger than the default steel in stock RA2! Or how about that antweight or beetleweight that's overweight even with the stock plastic armor? Just do a slight downgrade to 1 mm aluminum.
And, so you won't have to redesign all your bots to accomodate the new armor, we've made the 3 mm varieties the same weight as the stock armor. But they're still twice as strong as they were so they can stand up to the more powerful weapons in DSL. You'll only need to reapply your armor to get the extra strength.
There are 4 thicknesses - 1 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm, and 10 mm - of each armor type. Since these are old armor types, just different thicknesses, you don't need to worry about unchecking "Apply default chassis appearance" to avoid a crash. You can leave it checked if you like.
-
Nice now I can use my old strategy.
No extra armoring at all and robot has as much weapons as possible. :D
Or weapons can be now much more complicated and still armoring will remain as quite good as it would be with extra armoring.
-
YES!!! now my rambots stand a chance! I love RAMBOTS!
-
OMFG wow *jaw drops 20 feet and 10mm great job i really hope it works and we get to use it thanks guys for making the the best mod in RA2 history this is going to pwn
-
ok fellas, I decided to show a TINY bit of a preview on DSL2's new interface graphic. Some of you might know what it is... or maybe not.
You might never know, cause the interface is 100% changed from the first version and more.
(well ok... I'm still working on it, but it will be completely whole new interface by the time I'm done)

wow, that graphic is amazing good work vincent!

Team HEX
LW - Grim Chopper: It's rather slow, but if Grim Chopper ever manages to sink its Gothic axe into your bot's unprotected top, you'll be wishing you were fighting Lock Nut instead. This bot sports one of my finer skinning jobs, with a very corroded, grungy metal look.
MW - Lock Nut: The pitifully weak rammer from stock RA2 makes a quantum leap to the most destructive spinner in DSL. I don't normally reveal what's inside these bots, but with Lock Nut I can't resist - that is a 6-MAG GEARBOX spinning 90 kgs of weapons  Defeating Lock Nut will be the ultimate achievement for a MW that everyone will envy you for.
HW - Cranky Spanky: It may have a weird, nonsensical name, but that doesn't detract from Cranky Spanky's near invincibility. Rivaling Big Metal Friend for sheer durability, CS sports two flippers and two hammers that can grab your bot Complete Control-style while doing damage and flipping at the same time.
-
awesome good job once again  ......darn i cant wait for dsl 2.0!!
-
FINALY! I've been trying to login for months! OK I love the new DSL pack! but is the garadge going to be new? If so or not if there is a garadge door then could you make it open and you could go out into the town wreck cars busses... break into the -town name here- desaster zone arenas... (the DSL arenas building) and stuff like that? I know it will be a big poly count and all but is it worth a shot? Maby with a later version. Vincent I love the garadge graphic and arena logo! can't wait to see the whole thing! Well most of this goes in ideas but I just got carried away sorry... but please think about my idea... :)
Tygron over and out
-
I'm breaking the pattern of AI-other stuff-AI here, because there are now more AI teams left to show than there is other new stuff.
Anyway here is Team Z.
LW-Insane Berserker: Like its namesake, Insane Berserker will go all-out offensive at full power, shredding anything that comes close, for as long as its batteries last. Surviving until then will be quite an accomplishment.
MW-Razorback: A fast, well armored wedge/rammer/sideways flipper, Razorback will give any spinner (or any other design, for that matter) a serious run for its money. Arguably the single toughest middleweight, it can even defeat the feared Lock Nut.
HW-Eye Stabber: Eye Stabber may be one of the least tough heavyweights in the pack, but if you let it sink its spikes into your bot's side, you'll be regretting it as much as if you ran into Grog, the Vengeful.
-
Alright... it's Friday... and what do you get?
ANOTHER PREVIEW DIRECTLY FROM ME-VINCY!
(ok... Goose already saw this before hand, but whatever)
Today... I give you, the bot status preview.
As show on the picture....
Light blue bar is your power,
White bar is your air tank,
Red bar is your skin of armor... wait, there's more!
Now you have an interal damage bar in orange, under the word "Alert"
It'll show you how much damage have been taken from inside. When the bar become full... ah, I'm sure you can figure that one out.
Also, you have a RC chip displayed in the middle of the status window. It will start out as green... will turn to yellow if minor damaged.... then turn red if damaged like heck.
-
holy crap thats great man *sniff sniff* im so proud!
-
Two of the major changes in DSL 2.0 are impossible to show in screenshots. One is an almost total re-writing of the txt files, making them more convenient, balanced, and gramatically correct. The other is all-new, more realistic sound effects. These things alone greatly increase the play value in my opinion.
Even though it's so hard to show you all this kind of stuff, I did my best and made a 2-minute DSL 2.0 preview video featuring some impressive hits and stunts.
http://beetlebros.gametechmods.com/videos/dsl2_preview.wmv (10 mb)
Enjoy!
-
Those new sounds are amazing and the bots look 10x cooler while batteling. nice work dsl team!
-
indeed..im so proud of my vincy and clicky! *sniff sniff!!* they own :D *sniff :D *
-
Could you add an option to turn those green fading points on and off because now I can't know how hard my robot hits and so I don't know so easily is it good or not.
But sounds nice. But I hope the buzzer won't be so cracky as it was. =P
-
W00t new Ripblade! I must say, this is amazing. I've been into Robot Arena for a long time now (back in the days of Robot Arena 1) and I have never seen anything like this. Good job guys.
-
Today's sneak peek features the Grand Masters of Pushybots, team SteelYard Dog. These guys tend to dominate the arena against just about any opponent, especially spinners. On any arena with dangerous hazards, always make sure to 'Beware of dog'!
LW - Mangy Mutt: Probably the most annoying opponent to face in the LW division, Mangy Mutt will get under you with its wedge and then either flip you with its hinged snow plow, or take you for a ride across the box, depending on the speed of the impact. It can also withstand a heavy beating from even the gnarliest spinners with 3 mm steel armor and an extra plow for armor.
MW - Top Dog: Again, probably the most annoying MW opponent. Once Top Dog has you in its dual snow plow jaws, there is little chance of escape before it takes you into the wall or a hazard. And, for a little extra 'bite', if you manage to rip off Top Dog's snow plows, some deadly spikes will be exposed that can finish off your already weakened bot.
HW - Bad Dog: Much like a larger Top Dog, but Bad Dog is faster, stronger, and has a nasty bite associated with its rams. If you thought Killdozer in DSL 1.2 was a tough opponent, you ain't seen nothing yet.
-
Wow, the new teams are looking cool. I can't wait now.
-
And I know exactly what's their weakest point and I also know exactly what robot to use against them.
-
And I know exactly what's their weakest point and I also know exactly what robot to use against them.
just use a heavy armoured low wedge
-
And I know exactly what's their weakest point and I also know exactly what robot to use against them.

Nope I'll use my Powerpack. It gets easily over their plows and smashes their chassises very fast when it is on them and it starts to swing its arms or rise itself in the air and start to poke them to death.
-
Although Darkrat hasn't been very active lately, he did leave us with some nifty components for DSL 2.0. This week's sneak peek includes a few of them.
What you see in the screenshot below are special small, lightweight parts for building antweights and beetleweights with more freedom. Combined with new, lighter armor choices, there are almost as many possible insect-weight designs as there are heavier classes. For example, I made this antweight wedge/vertical spinner with weight to spare, perhaps for a better wedge, bigger weapon, more batteries, or extra armor. No longer will 90% of ants be rammers with this new addition.
The ant parts include a mini control board, batteries, wheels, motor, blade, and hammer.
-
  :D
yay finally i requested these along time ago on the fourms and they are finally here sweet now i defintly cant wait thanks dsl team

Hey I love the video can't wait! I was wandering if you may be able to bring the RA1 bots into RA2... you know red jiant and topknot and all. You know like make the parts and stuff... just a sugestion... but I love the way the new sounds and parts and robots all come together. I would also like to see the old arenas from RA1 but that may be a different mod. Glad you have found the drone loop sound but I would like to know why it was ingame anyway oh well god job guys.

if you can skin well making the ra1 bots is not hard at all remeber AW's ra1 bot for ra2? that was all standerd components
-
I was wandering if you may be able to bring the RA1 bots into RA2... you know red jiant and topknot and all.
Are you telepathic?
Well anyways, here is another sneak peek for today. Team RIOT, featuring some of the most beautifully constructed/skinned bots around.
LW - Civil Uprising: This nasty undercutting spinner can reach right under your bot's weapons and attack your wheels if you're not careful. Wedges will also have a hard time avoiding the weapon's bite. Invertibility makes it doubly dangerous.
MW - VENGEANCE: With the second-biggest horizontal spinner in terms of weight and the biggest in terms of diameter, VENGEANCE really packs a wallop. Its only weakness is instability, but being invertible does help offset this.
HW - Velociraptor: Undoubtedly the most artful bot in the pack. If virtual robots can strike real fear in their opponents, then Velociraptor is the one to do it. Velociraptor isn't all looks and intimidation, though: its twin claws can tear through your bot while you are still trying to penetrate its heavy armor.
-
Velociraptor rocks. I like the other two also, but Velociraptor just rocks. Great job with that team. I'd say that's the best team yet.
-
No I havn't see the RA1 bot in RA2... and click... does that mean you are making the RA1 bots too? I found something in RA12 the other day... a nonexistant arena and and the fact that the spark and impact stuff came from robotarena 1 (you know the damage stickers) so I thought you would like to know that... lol. Any way Nice work in DSL can't wait!
-
Nice work, guys. ;)
-
Lu-tze may not be with us anymore... but that doesn't prevent a new arena made by her from sneaking into DSL 2.0!
Introducing the Hamster Ball of Doom! This arena was just recently dug out of the deep, dark recesses of goose's computer. Apparently, it was made for the first DSL release, but in the rush to get the pack released it was forgotten (one reason we're taking so long with 2.0 - haste makes waste!)
The Hamster Ball of Doom is a very unique arena. Bots fight in a giant clear ball that rolls around a room. There is no safe ground: you never know which way the ball is going to roll and possibly carry your bot with it (unless, of course, you drive up the ball to make it roll the way you want and take your opponents for a little tumble  ). Big, gnarly spinners and ultra-low bots are much less effective on this arena; you want a fast, invertible bot with a versatile, durable weapon.
It's hard to show how cool this arena is in screenshots - you have to play it for the full effect - but I've included a few below anyway.
-
May i just say.DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG i love that arena!!
-
And will these all sweet stuffs be released during this year? ...
-
I never knew that it would be possible to do that kind of thing. Good job.
-
WOW NICE NICE NICE NICE NICE NICE NICE NICE NICE and NICE
this is so revolutionary and old? lol weird very good arena cant wait
-
Cool! Is there also a arena that you are in separate hamster balls? that would bee cool! you know bumper ball bots! well anyway I love the DSL mod... is there more obstical courses? and the one that is already there de-laged? I saw on Lu-tze's site that that arena is one of MANY obstical courses... how did you guys get the wind tunnel working? How do game phisics (gravity mostly) work? Well good luck with the pack... and don't get your computers crashed lol.
-
...Well good luck with the pack... and don't get your computers crashed lol.
HA! too late... and few times already.
-
This new DSL pack looks awesome. If you were female I would have sex with you right now.
-
its never stopped you before
quote from someone else
-
ok then what about getting your computers hacked? or destroyed? lol
-
Ahahaha.. funny..
-
Good work guys it's really nice to see that DSL is still alive and well.
Congrats on all the new stuff you have been able to creat they are looking mighty fine.
-
  :D
yay finally i requested these along time ago on the fourms and they are finally here sweet now i defintly cant wait thanks dsl team
Actually, Antweight parts were once requested many years ago on the *gulp* AceUplink forums.
-
shhh! dont tell me that i was much happier thinking they were made for me lol
-
house_fly do ya think they made parts for you it would moustly be like they are saving all the good parts for them self :P i'm pretty sure there is tons of parts they have done that they are saving for themself maybe some arenas to who knows only the dsl team knows :P
-
...only the dsl team knows :P
I don't know everything, but I do know that I was elected as a retarded team-member on DSLteam.
j/k :P
Of course... there's more stuff than I can remember.
-
We do frequently underestimate how long it will take to make the "finishing touches" on DSL 2.0, but I think it's safe to say it will be out this year. Maybe even this winter.
For the weekly peek, it's team MEGATON. They've revamped their bots into some of the most fearsome fighting machines around, so watch out.
LW-Poison Stinger: An invertible (!) pneumatic poker with tough armor and a painful bite, Poison Stinger's only weakness is speed. Even so, it will prove a tough opponent against spinners and wedges alike.
MW-Tempest: Once it gets to full speed, this highly dangerous shell spinner tears up opponents like nobody's business with four 30kg sledgehammers. And as if that weren't enough, it also sports a wedge, extra bottom armoring, and polycarbonate appendages that will roll it back onto its wheels if it happens to get flipped.
HW-UnDeadbeat: Deadbeat comes back from the dead with the heaviest bottom armor of any bot in the pack, as well as decent front armor and a giant hammer. Popups and drums will be hard-pressed to hurt this bot, but that 70-kg hammer hurts easily enough.
(It seems a small weight adjustment on some components pushed UnDeadbeat 3.5 kgs over 800. Technically a SHW, so for the weight purists out there I'll probably put it on a slight diet to bring it below 800 before the pack is released.)
-

Winter?! Oh mayun.
-
um..he meant the current winter.. i think lol :P
-
.............maybe, it could be the next winter. Who knows?
and I suck at guessing.... big time. :?
-
At least we have time to suggest fixes, fine tunings, trimmings and other little tweaks for the next pack. =)
-
If he means this winter as in Jan-Mar, it's a relief, but if he means Dec '06, I think I would have forgotten about this pack altogether.
-
Do you think we might also see Gravity in this pack?
Gravity was a very effective robot in RW7.
-
i doubt it but i loved that robot they had to call off the match it was so destructive it tore off stuff and almost threw a bot through the plexieglass
-
i doubt it but i loved that robot they had to call off the match it was so destructive it tore off stuff and almost threw a bot through the plexieglass
Holy, are there any videos or pictures of this bot? Must see!
-
I don't recall seeing a bot itself went through it...
but I do remember something similar to it happened on Battle Bot, a powerful spinner bot proved its mighty power by making massive damage on its target.
Some torn-off armor got nailed onto arena's plexiglass window... scaring the sh** out of a guy who saw it coming directly toward at him. His life flashed before his eyes. Muhaha!
-
hey rfs,how do you get the disturbed mod to work anyway? lol,on topic,FREAKING AWESOME can i eat the mw? he looks blue berry oh i cant wait to kill it lol.
-
Ok boy and ...girl (if there is any...)
I know it's not Friday but I don't care... cause I'm going through what I'd like to call "A Massive Boredom Infection".
Mainly because my main desktop computer (I'm on my laptop, some weak sh**, btw) is nearly 8 years old and it's about to fade away (Hard Drive reported 4% space surface damage and PSU is putting like an old car. Also the CPU is just... worthless when comparing to what is out there now)
So I've been into a setback untill I can order in new computer parts to build myself another desktop with mighty-beasty-VAST-POWER performance.
Trust me, it won't be some sh** for a long LOOOONNG time.
So anyways... today, I present you a CONCEPT preview on something that I'll be planning on for DSL2.
As you noticed something new with the critical hit display. Being part of a "concept", I'm hoping to make a break-through with the coding to add some graphic animation... and that's one of the thing I'd like to enable with, flying sparks. If animation can not be done... then I'll try something better enough for little extra spice.
Ahh... the dragable window, don't you kinda hate it when you can't see something behind it when you hit up the menu? I know I do. AND GOD! the menu was HUGE! Blocking the whole damn thing... PFFTT!! NO MORE IN DSL2!
No buttons shown yet.
Remember the arena timer? I hardly do cause it was damn tiny and dull.
So it's time to give a timer a new look.... but something is missing.... I won't tell you what... you'll find out later.
A blue triangle with a number is a warnning sign for not moving after a while... duh.
Is that everything to show? ...well, actually no. I'm saving all the good stuffs for later.
BTW... concept = not an actual thing.
-
doood nice that is crazy
so when a critical hit happens it sparks or is that static?
-
if you can animate the heads up display, it would be cool to have the timer slide down from the top of the screne at the begining of the match.
-
An audience would be great. Perhaps that is what is missing?
Edit: You spelled 'Warning' wrong.
-
AH HA!
HE NOTICED! I did it twice on that post.
Son... You passed my little tricky test.
You know what this mean? You get something on the inside!
(one moment though... it was too soon, lol)
-
heeeey! i saw it first,i just didnt say anything because i didnt want to make a fuss lol
-
I was kinda wishing it was the audience but oh well.. :D
-
hey rfs,how do you get the disturbed mod to work anyway? lol,on topic,FREAKING AWESOME can i eat the mw? he looks blue berry oh i cant wait to kill it lol.
The AI Mod (if that is what you mean) should work as soon as you install the RFS AI Pack. As for how to use it, we never released that information. The only people that know are the DSL Team, and Disturbed and I.
-
i meant the garage mod,but yeah ok,thanks lol (also thanks to you i could ai :D )
-
Woot! Friday! :D
-
uh oh...<.<...cliiiicky...fiiiiiiiiiire? ahhh its 8 and no ones here eeeeekz
-
OK, here is a look at the last new-old AI team, The Scrappers. They specialize in a variety of different spinner designs that are all effective at knocking your bot about like a piñata.
LW-360 Arc Pounder: The only lightweight to feature NPC-T64 drive motors, 360AP can whip up a vicious spin cycle in no time at all with those big motorcycle wheels. Combined with 3 iron spikes on the end of a 200 cm bar, this is by far the hardest-hitting LW in the pack.
MW-Ripblade II: Sporting the biggest and fastest vertical disc in the pack (even counting the HW's), Ripblade II is capable of giving even heavyweights some decent air time. Middleweights can sometimes find themselves above the reach of Ripblade's weapon. (Ripblade II may or may not be exclusive to DSL 2.0... if you can find it posted elsewhere under a different name, you might also find a battle shot or two  )
HW-Backyard Shredder: A fast, heavily armed and armored tank of a bot with a uniquely angled spinner. If you are unlucky or unskilled enough to let Backyard Shredder get under you, expect the fight to be over quickly as that gnarly disc grinds at your bot's belly. Otherwise, prepare for a long fight getting through BS's defenses.
-
Ok, you posted a preview today. Looks like I can call off my lawyers.
Hmm, by RB2 battle shots, do you mean the video preview a few pages back?
-
ahh quit secksing me
witht hese great pics give me the game
-
You don't suppose you could just let us try out the Ripblade2.bot file, could we? :D
-
Incredible work. Definately looking forward to this.
-
Wow, I like this team as well. I look forward to see everything in the future.
-
Did you take Pounder's concept from my Doom's Tornado? Didn't you?
-
AH HA!
HE NOTICED! I did it twice on that post.
Son... You passed my little tricky test.
You know what this mean? You get something on the inside!
(one moment though... it was too soon, lol)
Oh yea, and when will I be receiving this.. something on the inside?
(The Ripblade 2.bot file would be :D :D :D !)
-
Oh yea, and when will I be receiving this.. something on the inside?
(The Ripblade 2.bot file would be :D :D :D !)
ohhhh did you get it? what is it? IS IT A COOKIE? is it chocolate chip? or maybe fudge? hmm...mmm fudge,by the way...
(Ripblade II may or may not be exclusive to DSL 2.0... if you can find it posted elsewhere under a different name, you might also find a battle shot or two
(http://img330.imageshack.us/img330/4752/bots1091qe.jpg) wheres my cookie!? can i have a cake instead!?
-
Ok... I was going to give you something.... but it's still having errors... uhh.
*runs away*
-
Ok... I was going to give you something.... but it's still having errors... uhh.
*runs away*
get back here with that info!!!! *chases him down for hours untill finaly just calling it quits and go's to see if click beetle has cookies and maybe juice for getting that picture*

Well this is intresting....

Yea, ham, you hold him down. I'll get my shotgun. :P
Edit: It's Friday again.
-
Sorry for being so late, but I got really involved in trying to get something to work in DSL 2.0 and lost track of time.
Anyway here is another sneak peek. I hinted at this possibility before, but now you actually get to see some bots!
Robot Arena Reincarnated
That's right, some of your favorite RA1 opponents are coming back for some realistic action. Obviously, they can't be exactly like their old versions, but we've tried to make them as similar as possible in most cases (in others, we've added innovative twists).
All of the RA1 Reincarnated bots are heavyweights, and they are all extremely tough.
Gammaraze III: A fast, armored wedge with a row of six - count 'em, SIX - vertical saw blades poking out. Gammaraze III can get under you and take you for a ride across the box, all the while reducing the bottom of your chassis to metal shavings. It also has some of the quickest self-righting around. Don't make the mistake of underestimating those blades.
Topknot II: Topknot II is pretty much the same as the original Topknot, just with a ring of spikes instead of silly looking badge plates. Special custom AI bindings allow it to drive like no ordinary human could - Topknot II spins around and fires all its axes independently, creating an almost constant barrage of axe hits. Maneuvering to the sides or back of this bot does no good. And if you get under it, it will fire all its axes down and hit your bot on every side. The only spot where you'll be safe from this beast is above it (and good luck getting there).
ScootOrDie: The second-fastest heavyweight next to Snow Job and tied with CRITICAL EMERGENCY, ScootOrDie will have no problem bullying you around the arena while bludgeoning your top with its hammer and puching your sides with its pneumatic rams. It looks fragile, but ScootOrDie is surprisingly resilient, able to hold its own against nasty spinners like Grog, the Vengeful for a pretty long time. It is especially effective against flippers, thanks to its extensive bottom armor and anti-flip polycarbonate appendages that will roll it back onto its wheels.
And that's just half the team. The other 3 RA1 bots will be shown at a later date; until then you'll have to speculate which ones they are.
Oh and good work finding out Ripblade II's secret identity... your reward is getting to see that pic of it tossing Firestorm around.
Tempest (in MEGATON) also has a secret identity, but it's been modified from its original version. I never posted any battle shots, though, so I'll tell you it's a modified Megawhirl IV.
-
very nice click these are awsome i cant wait to destoy these nostalgic bots
or be destroyed by thenm :(
anyway the look very very neat what is that component on Gammaraze III connecting the saws

That's just an aluminum extender connecting the saws. There are 3 motors, each with 2 blades.
-
ahh i understand i thought it was 1 peice its just the angle well thats nice anyway more things to tear off
-
wow..those are amasing like always..makes me wish they were in ra1 rather then the ones in ra1 real fights then! lol,so no juice? ok atleast i got a cookie...now then off to hunt down vincent!!!!!
-
You should try the bots from the tech demo too, Yellow Buzzard and that.. other bot..
Edit: http://www.robotarena.com/ra1/default.htm > Opponents
Are you building bots from this list? I personally never played RA1 so I can't really see the relation from those reps to the list. :?
-
its been a while since ive been here. this is looking awesome guys, just plain awesome. cant wait to play it.
-
Not sure if anyone here knows/remembers me.
This is looking great. Just as everyone else said, I'll have to start playing RA2 again once this comes out. Was looking back at that stunt arena. Crazy. I'm just thinking about how that will work coupled with Overdose . . .
Yes, it is a terrible design, and the pic is oversized, but it's fast.
What's best about this is that its actually active and being worked on. How many projects have you seen planned, started, and abandoned? You can tell by the enthusiasm and the constant progress that this isn't just a happy idea.
I'll try and become active at these forums, now that AU is just as dead as it was when it was down.
-
Aww, your not coming to RFSHQ? Your missing out.
-
Not really, considering it's only penis jokes and jerks like Goliath.
BTW, good job, Click and co.
-
we're(the staff) working on that(the people like goliath(and him)) right now.
-
Nanaman.. but whatever, this shouldn't be discussed here.
Only 2 more days till next preview! :D
-
Blood and ashes, that's a lot of drive power on Overdose. I expect that bot will be able to pull some crazy stunts.
This week's sneak peek is something very exciting. Something that has only been done once before, years ago, and has not been attempted again since then because it is so difficult. Something that has always been demanded from the RA2 community, and will soon be widely available.
What is it?
...
That's right, tank treads. This tough form of mobility was available in RA1, and now it's coming to DSL 2.0 - with a few changes from Lu-Tze's tank treads.
These treads are a much simpler design: you just attach them to a motor in exactly the same way as a wheel. No more messing with multi-part treads and tiny tread motors (not necessarily a bad thing - except there would be no way to prevent players from abusing the tread motors and wheels in ways they weren't meant to be used). This allows for greater flexibility in drive power: your tank-bot can have Astroflight drive or NPC-T64 drive; you're not limited to 2 kinds of motor.
These treads can also swivel around the motor axis for maximum all-terrain capabilities. In case all-terrain isn't your style, though, there is a special "locking motor" you can use that will hold the treads more or less in place.
And as you can see from the picture, you can attach a variety of accessories to the tread sides - anything from weapons to side skirts to extra armor. This, combined with uparalelled HP, helps make the tank treads the most versatile mode of mobility available.
The treads also come in two flavors - Medium and Large - and are constructed in the classic paralellogram shape from RA1. There is also a possibility for several more flavors to be added if some models Vincent made can be converted to .gmf's (which, I must admit, are considerably fancier than my models).

I'm not sure what this tech demo you're talking about is.
-
the tech demo was before ra2, it was just a sample of the game, there where 3 bots in an arena and you could drive around, but the botrs never appered in the game, but some of the parts did. but sadly it only worked for like 3 people

holy cow!.....i think i know how it works...?....the tank track isnt the bodyi s it!? i bet theres a nother spot on it thats the body that spins instead for it...thats so cool!

:o *gasps* How did this pass by me?! Shame on me!
-
holy shizit...!!!! vincent! you rock,i went to your site, your really good at graphic design! man..by the way...MY DSL SCREEN GIMME GIMME GIMME!!
-
ya vincent you still owe ham a sneek pic or sompthing
-
I always wanted to have tank tracks but I never mentioned it on these sites or anywhere else. Those are sooo cool. Now I can build robot's what totally can drive over others without any huge lack of control or grip or anything what is related to modification or cheating. :D

Yea, the component I remember was the Yellow Buzzard wheel. That's about it.
AH HA!
HE NOTICED! I did it twice on that post.
Son... You passed my little tricky test.
You know what this mean? You get something on the inside!
(one moment though... it was too soon, lol)
Uhh, yea me and ham need those special previews. :D
-
Ham? what the heck?
Only Mean2u is getting something from me. You can't fool me. :P
-
Doesn't ham get something for the Abomination pic?
-
I like what you did to my scooterpie replica! very impressive!

Hey, welcome back DinoV.
Yes, ScootOrDie is actually one of the tougher bots around because it's so pushy and nearly impossible to flip. It uses your original chassis and pneumatic rams, but everything else had to be adjusted a bit to make room for all that extra stuff. Same basic design though; it seems to be pretty effective.
-
If you can answer this, how many teams are in DSL 2.0? I know at least 30 right?
-
somthing like that.
-

Looks awesome. Just one thing...That chassis was pretty damn tight...I had 4 fast T64s in there, there was barley enough room for batteries...how'd you fit all those apendiges on the ends and corners and stuff?
-
Come on, come on, come on where's the next show up. *Shaking like mad on his chair to see something new at DSL 2.0* It's friday and 9:00 pm here.

Friday, February 17, 2006, way too long.
-
clickbeetle or firebeetle or heck, even vincent NEEDS to get here with a preview!!!
-
I've posted much later than this before. In any case, sneak peeks are going to be later for a while now since I'm back in college (can't post as soon as I get up anymore).
DinoV: All I really had to make room for was some baseplate anchors and axle mounts. I did that by rearranging the number and type of batteries in there.
And here is the other half of the Robot Arena Reincarnated team, including updated versions of Aquarius, Pontoon (gasp!), and Triclops, which are shown next to their DSL versions.
Aquarius 2: Slightly altered from its original design, Aquarius's triple spears now slant downward so they are protected from spinners when retracted and are capable of hitting the tops of bots. Its wedge shape combined with good speed also allows it to get under some bots, where its weapons will rip long, ugly gouges in your bottom armor. Heavy armor rounds out this well-balanced opponent.
Pon2n: A hovering AI bot!? That's right! Pon2n will provide a unique fighting challenge, as it will never touch the ground. Instead, it prefers to hover over your bot and let its heavy hammer heads swing down, where they can crush your bot from any angle. In addition, Pon2n runs a very large propellor blade in the rear that will make short work of any bots unfortunate enough to get caught in it. This opponent is vulnerable to hammers and vertical spinners, but any other weapon design won't even be able to touch it.
Triclops v2.0: A nearly invincible juggernaut armed with an unbelievably massive hammer and a fearsome row of teeth, Triclops is designed to combat those sneaky wedges and vertical spinners that get under you. Triclops just crawls right over them with its treads, absorbs any damage with thick bottom armor, then brings down 90 kgs of pain on top of its opponent. It is also effective at taking the shell right off of shell spinners. Its only weaknesses are a slow top speed and difficulty self-righting.
-
Very nice, the Aquarius is the best one. :D
-
awww man,you duh shiznit!!!!
-
Those are sooo nice robots.
-
Frydeh!! :D
-
Well Click said he had college work to do so it might be abit later.

Dropping out is good for you. :P

stop posting if you arent click beetle only post after he gets here or il consume your family

Today's sneak peek features an assortment of random stuff that's been changed or added either from stock RA2 or DSL 1.2... and there's quite a bit of it.
The devil is in the details, and it's the little things that can make or break a game. That's why we've gone to such efforts to update some old stuff like stock components, text files, and sound effects instead of just piling on more new stuff (although there's plenty of that too).
The screenshot below shows some of the stuff I'm talking about. It could be a little hard to see what all that is, so I'll give a little description of what you see.
Another connection point has been added to the baseplate anchors so you can mount them upside-down. Armoring the bottom of your bot and making downward-angled components has never been easier. Another connection point has been added to the chew blade which allows you to reverse its direction or stack them in a really nasty drum. Its mass has also been upped to 20 kgs because it is so much thicker than the saw blades. Another connection point has been added to the sledgehammers, allowing you to attach them by the ends, and the size of the 60 kg hammer is increased. As seen before on Big Metal Friend, spiked clubs are now stackable as weaponized extenders courtesy of a new attachment point. The drums have a new shiny skin, and there is a new beater bar weapon to go with them, which can also serve many other uses. The collision of the NPC-T64's has been greatly improved - no more colliding with the air. A new size of tribar, Extra Large, is now available, along with the sturdy, heavy-duty Whyachi tribar. Eight new connection points have been added to the DSL discs, allowing you to mount stuff on the disc face like you could in stock RA2.
...Whew. I think that's everything in the picture. Some stuff that's not in the picture are all the previously non-stock components used with the AI (Emergency flipper, samurai sword, iron fist, etc.) rebalanced with DSL , and the availability of ALL the parts used on the replicas. Nobody likes opponents using parts that you can't use, so all the non-stock parts (including replica parts, smart zones, the original cheatbot2 parts, and other random stuff) are now available as part of the cheatbot2 code (they're still not stock though!! Just available. As cheat components.)
-
i love you clickbeetle
-
Me too, we should.. you know. :o
But anyways, I made a spread of some bots from this pack, I couldn't fit all the teams so if someone wants to do the rest and splice them with this one, feel free.
http://rapidshare.de/files/14070617/RA2DSLSpread.rar.html
-
And now you should add a little video for those new sound effects too.
But one question. Have you fixed the error with the big servo motor? What caused it's axel to fly off if it was placed in wrong direction to a robot's base.
-
Will there be attachment points on the Whyachi extender to add those red bars that were on SOW?
-
That wasn't SoW, that was YU812. Plus, the 'not useful' parts will be cheatbot2 components, so the red bar will probably be there.
-
I know, but I'm just asking.

-
well for starter darkrat worked at burger king...thats all i know besides acams and starcore are about the same age =P
-
Do you think we could stop making "anticipation posts" every Thursday/Friday? It clutters up the thread for people who want to see the sneak peeks.
Well anyway, I hinted at this last week in the AI ant/beetle thread, and now you finally get to see it. That's right, there will be a full team of 2 ants and 4 beetles using the new ultralight components.
Why 2 ants and 4 beetles? Because even with the new components, the variety of effective designs is limited. However, as evidenced by bots like Peer Pressure, the degree of flexibility you have in building sub-lights is still MUCH greater than in stock RA2.
The team is quite appropriately named Arthrobotics, considering it's the ant and beetle team.
AW-Nanowhirl: A nasty horizontal spinner with a powerful weapon. Don't underestimate a brushless-powered lawn mower blade on an ant - Nanowhirl can defeat some of the beetles I've made. And as if that weren't bad enough, it also has some beefy drive motors that will make it very difficult to pin, and as long as the blade is attached it can self-right.
BW-Microwhirl: Slightly updated from the Microwhirl I entered in RFSHQ's DSL tournament a while back, this fearsome spinner makes short work of any opponent to get caught in its blade (although, thankfully, it's not as fearsome as Firebeetle's Out of the Blue, or as glitchy.) Decent drive, armor, and self-righting round out this bot.
BW-Peer Pressure: A combination flipper/crusher, Peer Pressure is one of the more unique designs even among the heavyweights. While not as powerful as Spike Heads' iNsAnItY, you'd still best make sure it doesn't get under you, or you could quickly find your chassis conforming to the vice of Peer Pressure.
-
Woot burgers! And I see a new wheel on Peer Pressure.
-
No idiot i ment how they got started in coding (duh) and i would like an answer from the actual person
-
Don't go throwing insults, he was just making a joke. And i remember reading that there isn't much coding to actually do with the mod because no codes been released...
Anyway the bots look really good, but will we be able to use the ant weight motors and such? that could be overpowered...
And maybe you should make a sticky closed topic that just shows all of the previews.
-
YEP, all ant parts will be included.
-
best day ever, first i get a psp then click posts an ant team..and i ate at chilis..:D
-
You ate at Chili's? OMGWTFBBQ mayun?
PS: Get on MSN, I have to kill.. err.. show you my new MW.
-
Out of The Blue was a mean BW...I only beat it once with Xygon (my best Beetle) These bots look awesome...one word...BRUSHLESS!!!
Do you guys have like Copals and Liteflite wheels and sh**? or are they all DSLized?
I'm gonna make a new Xygon...That thing was tough.as everyone remembers from the old RFSHQ tournament...came in second.
-
There are Copal motors for ants, but the other components are imaginary brands. And the ant parts are extremely weak on anything heavier than a beetleweight, so you'd have to use several of them to be effective, and that would just be ineffecient.
...and guess what? I'm on spring break this week, so you get an early sneak peek. How about that.
This is the other half of the Arthrobotics team, featuring two vertical spinners and a rammer.
AW-Terminus: Brushless motor + vertical titanium blade + trapping arms = the end of your robot. The only weaknesses of this bot are that it isn't as fast as I'd like it to be, and it isn't invertible.
BW-True Love: Looking like it came straight out of real life into your PC, True Love can push most other beetleweights with ease while its drum weapon flips them and whittles them down. It's not the toughest beetle, but definitely my favorite just for the way it looks and handles.
BW-Robokillase: An enzyme that catalyzes the reaction: 2 Bots + Arena -> Bot + Arena + 1000 Pieces. Don't let this fast and powerful rammer bind you in its active site, or there's a good chance you'll end up as the 1000 pieces.
-
Question: Were you planing an ant/beetle team by request or did you already have it in the works?
-
I think both. Not sure tho.
-
I was already working on it when the topic came up. I figured if there's going to be sub-light parts, there had better be at least one sub-light team to test your bots against.
-
like omigosh no update! :(
//EDIT BY GOOSE//
Please Stop making posts like that. like CB Said before, it clutters up the thread. Thanks
i can talk in red too
-
Sorry for the delay. The item for this week wasn't quite finished yet on Friday.
This week's preview is the new mother of all weapon motors in DSL2: a gearbox combining TWO Perm 132's on one shaft (as if one wasn't already powerful enough). Weighing in at an impressive 250 kgs and having an electricity drain of 4420, this monster isn't going to fit on anything but a heavyweight, and good luck cramming two of them on. The motor makes up for that in power, though: with twice the torque of a Perm 132, it can get even the heaviest weapons spinning at full speed in no time. It's perfect for big, gnarly HW shell spinners or bludgeoning bar spinners. Say farewell to stacking motors and say hecko to the dual Perm 132 gearbox.
-
holy heck dude that motor is so awesome, i can't wait for DSL 2
-
1) Awesome design!
2) Can it be externally mounted?
3) Lol, can't power a LW. :(
-
Whee now I can stack 2 super motor packs to each other.   Plus build the very mother of all destroyers -robot.
-
man... what a motor. will be fun to use that on AW
-
holy crapola thats really cool!
-
well for starter darkrat worked at burger king...thats all i know besides acams and starcore are about the same age =P
lol I owned a burger King .
But thats not where I learned anything about computers.I was a coin operator for 15 years (Video / Pinball / Pooltables) I was the lead technition for those games. I started well over 20 years ago on computers, I have a couple of games programed under my belt along with other mod's for games in the past.
As for starcore he also has a long bacground in computers and works for a computer company. ACAMS also owns his own business in auto motive repair so he has all the motor knowledge.
Goose is a post secondary student and has very good knoledge of computers.
For ages Starcore/ACAMS/Myself are all in our late 30's and higher.Goose is the young guy ;)
I just wanted to set things straight before you all went and worked at Burger king to get better knowledge on computers . (LOL)
-
hahahahaha! I never knew that. but I knew that Starcore worked for a computer co. and he was moving and travelling but I didn't knew you were working in a burger king.
Oh and nice to see you. Long time no see
-
Enlightening wisdom
THERE YOU ARE.....I thought you were dead, or in jail, or both!
Don't tell me you don't even get on your computer anymore because I know better. Look me up next time.
-
Hey, we getting another preview video or what? I wanna get a moving update here. :P
-
darkrat is alive; all is right with the world
//edit: and im still interested in a dsl2.0, i really would like to see some new previews if possible :)
-
There's gonna be a preview sometime today. But i'm not really allowed to post this because it "clutters up the thread for people who want to see the previews".
-
About the double Perm: It can be mounted externally (so you can use it for vertical spinners easily  ). Using more than one of them (or stacking them) is going to be nigh impossible with each one weighing 250 kgs.
Here's another exciting motor to be included in DSL 2.0 for your enjoyment. There's a new, ultra-powerful weapon motor, so there's got to be an ultra-powerful drive motor to go with it, right? So say hecko to the pushybot's best friend: the E-Tek drive motor. This thing makes those old HP Z-Teks look like servos, thanks to the addition of a gearbox.
Just like in real life, it's going to take all your driving skills just to control a heavyweight with 2 E-Teks for drive (and you might as well forget about middleweights). But if you can keep from missing your opponent and slamming into the walls, nothing compares to the awesome power in these bad boys. The ultimate drive motor for heavyweight wedges, pushybots, and thwackers.

Q: How can you have a Tornado Mer gearbox, but no Tornado Mer?
A: You can't!!!
That's why the big, nasty HW bar spinner Tornado Mer is making an appearance in DSL 2.0. This bot had a relatively short career, but it was a devastating one, and this new real robot replica lives up quite well to the real Tornado Mer's power. It features a 90-kg blade powered by a Tornado Mer gearbox (of course), 5 mm steel armor, fully functional self-righting, and everything else you see in the picture.
Pictures of the real bot:
Outside - http://lazytoad.com/rc/rcg/tornado-mer.jpg
Inside - http://www.tcmechwars.com/gallery/albums/mechwar-6/Apr06_49.sized.jpg
-
Oh man, the attention to detail. You even had the wheels and the Magmotors down just like the real thing.
-
the pic is down for me :(
-
It's a very nice replica. There's one little thing though. The paint job is a tiny bit blurry and low qualityish. The bar looks awesome!
-
Great work on DSL2 It looks amazing! I've seen that you've put tons of work in it definitely should get RA2 Active again!
Great job!
-
It's a very nice replica. There's one little thing though. The paint job is a tiny bit blurry and low qualityish. The bar looks awesome!
Well You can't help that because the game makes the paint job blurrier.
But very nice thing indeed.
-
nice replica there! Every details is there.
Except that the skin look a little pixel-ated :?
-
Well the only way I know of to fix the bluriness is to make a component shell to put over the top of the bot, but I think it's kind of not nessasary because the blade (will probably) spins so fast that you wouldn't be seeing the chassis all glossy and stuff.
-
Today you get to see another new replica, and a very unique AI opponent. Why is it so unique?
Because when's the last time you've had to fight an opponent with a flamethrower??
Bob, a little-known but very dangerous LW flamethrower bot, is making an appearance in DSL 2.0. With its inexpensive wood-and-plastic-with-a-bit-of-metal construction, Bob is an easy opponent to underestimate, but anyone doing that will quickly realize their mistake once their bot is on the burner. The real Bob has KO'd bots up to the caliber of YU812, and although this virtual version is incapable of KO's (because of the way flamethrowers work), it can certainly rack up enough points to compensate.
In addition, you can see the brand-new flame texture for DSL 2.0, and there is a good possibility that you might see Bob's flamethrower show up as a stock component.
It's a good thing I've seen Bob fight live at almost every TC Mechwars tournament, because the only recent picture I could find of it is this:
http://www.buildersdb.com/botpics/2676.jpg
So the replica is built mostly from memory, which explains the lack of detail on the skin, but I think it still turned out nice. Also, the mudflap side armor really isn't solid white, it just looks that way in the bright test garage lights.
-
Holy crap that is too awesome for words...:O
-
Now that's a nice replica! very nice job.
-
Wow...just wow. Great job on the flames.
-
Whee now I can make a flame sea with all those flamethrowers and that won't be any cheating at all. =D
-
nice replica there
suggestion: I see that on the bot, the white should be a little rusty. maybe you could try to do that to make it look a little nicer.
-
Wow I love that bot. The new flames look great also.
-
Whoah!
Awesome work..
-
1) The flames are awesome!
2) Can we get a pic of the actual flamethrower component?
-
Well? When's the preview?
-
um DUH that is the preview dumbass, are you freaking retarded he posts one every Friday......okay so seriously NEVER POST AGAIN
-
um DUH that is the preview dumbass, are you freaking retarded he posts one every Friday......okay so seriously NEVER POST AGAIN
Who are you t tell him ''NEVER POST AGAIN'', if the admins didnt want him posting, they would probally ban him. Anyway i think that attitude might get you banned.
@Clicky, great bot, shame the flames dont completly destroy the bots, i guess infogrames didnt want people to just add a continuous damage weapon to their bots. I think you know what i mean?
-
um DUH that is the preview dumbass, are you freaking retarded he posts one every Friday......okay so seriously NEVER POST AGAIN
Calm down man, and lay off the.. flames.. we all make oblivious comments sometimes.

Here's another real robot replica for your viewing pleasure (and, once DSL 2.0 is done, your fighting pleasure... or maybe doom).
The middleweight double vertical spinner known as Heavy Metal Noise is coming to play with the other replicas. This bot is a pretty tough opponent with a powerful weapon, decent drive power, and invertibility, offering a unique replica-fighting challenge (since there are so few VS's). Its only weakness is its susceptibility to gyroscopic precession effects.
A picture of the real Heavy Metal Noise is here:

-
Looks awesome! 8)
-
As usual, nice work. I remember when Hazard destroyed that bot in season 4. :P
-
Its a nice bot. I love these weekly updates and preveiws because it shows us that its still going on. For all we know tho you could have finshed the game and wanna keep use wating but I dont think thats the case.
-
Also, since you said the release was winter, and we're in spring now, does this mean we have to wait even longer?
-
well it will be released when its done as vinve has said before but i too hope its done soon by the way sweet replica click.
-
I don't want this rushed and i'm not asking for a release date, i'm just wondering how much content they could possibly have in DSL 2.0 after all this time.
-
The more content, the better, eh?
-
I see those are new wheels, looks a bit bigger than the N12's
-
ya well it looks like dsl 2.0 will be huge
ps its been almost a year since the first sneak peak!
-
I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news; I suppose it could be taken either way. I have nothing left to show to you guys this week. You have seen it ALL. There are still some things in DSL 2.0 that haven't been shown but they're not finished yet.
Also I apologize for the obscenely long time it's taking for this to get done. Believe me, I want it released as much as you so I can move on to other things (still RA2-related of course). The reason I can't make a good estimate of the release date is because it is extremely difficult to guess how long it will take to do things, especially big projects like Vincent's graphics, Firebeetle's arenas, and goose's new programming. I can assure you that DSL 2.0 will be well worth the wait though.
I still feel like you deserve to see something though. So here's a couple random screenshots I took of some battles.
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/6307/random10fx.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random10fx.jpg)
Bar Code, a double Perm powered vertical spinner that I made, upgrades WIIDE LOAD into a flying full-body drum bot. This thing is seriously scary.
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/368/random26df.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random26df.jpg)
Bar Code punts Cranky Spanky like a football, ripping off one of its hammers in the process.
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9739/random38jn.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random38jn.jpg)
The double Perm gearbox works equally well on horizontal spinners, as evidenced by this yet-unnamed tribar spinner taking the tangle out of WreckTangle.
(http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/8082/random47nb.th.jpg) (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random47nb.jpg)
My two favorite beetleweights, True Love and Peer Pressure, duking it out. With the new parts, BW battles can be as fierce as any HW battle.
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/3760/random53wc.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random53wc.jpg)
A reenactment of the awesome Bob vs. YU812 battle at Mechwars 4. *winter wonderland tune* ...later on, we'll perspire, as we scream, in the fire...
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1514/random68dg.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random68dg.jpg)
A reenactment of the Heavy Metal Noise vs. T-Minus battle that was televised on Battlebots back in the day. This time, things might end differently.
(http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4623/random72ig.th.jpg) (http://img154.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random72ig.jpg)
Grog, the Vengeful is the bot to watch out for in DSL 2.0. Just look how it shredded my poor Drumblebe3 like an expired credit card.
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/6168/random80si.th.jpg) (http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=random80si.jpg)
But no design is all-powerful. Shogun's flipping and slashing samurai blades get under, flip, and cut up Grog's belly.
-
Well it shouldnt be to long now. I kinda wish it was more replicals and less stock remakes. Are all of the old parts still in the game even if there hidden because it would be cool to have a all repical pack with all the DSL 1 and 2 replicas. I have made quite a few ginsu replicas with stock part but I just dont have the time to make the sawblades have better traction. Is there space for more AI bots?
-
Never fear about lack of replicas. Three of the aforementioned things that are still unfinished are replicas (the others are Vincent's graphics, some new programming by goose, and an arena by Firebeetle). In fact, the one that will probably be shown next week starts with a D and ends with a 2... see if you can figure it out.
There will be ample space for any additional AI teams players want to add. I'm not sure there is even a limit.
-
only thing i can think of is DSL2 bieng released next week :P man i wish.......anyways this looks awesome way better then the stock RA2 and Original DSL put togeather
-
Whee.
Yay, I'll be excited all week.
-
Dominator 2?
-
Dominator 2?
[sarcasm] No...it's duhfligamomber 2 [/sarcasm]

You can buy it from here for 2 bucks http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007M5CW/104-0149060-5178342?v=glance&n=468642
-
I must say this thing is unresistable. I just hope I can jerry-rig this thing to work without having to do what I had to do to DSL 1. cant wait to get my mitts on the stunt arena, most of my latest designs are rockets even if they couldnt destroy the original scout. Hehe, 4 Etek + powered steering unit on a MW...
-
Umm I have had the stunt arena for some time now. I forgot were I got it but I have had it for a very long time.
-
Can you send it to me somehow?

you'd be better off just asking me to burn my copy to a CD, take it and all the gidetry for it to my aunt's house and email all 400MB worth to you. n.n'

i dont undestand well, but in my vocabulary you are ofering to send to me by email ? if yes upload it to an site that will be much betther than email.
-
You find me a FREE website that will host it and I'll proclaim myself George W. Bush infront of the real bush.

make a image from the disk
i think its no more than 350mb's i have and webspace with 500mb space and you can send by ftp.
can you do it for me :?: :D
edit: i found an free file hoster that allow archives up to 1gb http://www.filefront.com
-
It will have to wait till atleast wednesday afternoon. That's when I go to my aunt's house, where I have access to DSL. At home I have the world's slowest 56K EVER. Period. It'd take me over a month to upload even 350 with this connection. However, I will try to give it a shot. n.n One plus is that it comes with DSL V1 'installed', along with ALL of my robots and components. Maybe that's why it's so big......

 you have't the cd... can u try rar or 7zip it and say me the size ? my host already have 100mb's used
-
I'll see what I can do, but I cant really .rar anything that big right now. I'm down to about 100MB free space on my hard drive, give me to wednesday at the earliest, k? I do have an older version without some of my components/latest creations .rared up, and it's still 200MB, I can send that wednesday if that's ok

It already is zipped up. I'll make sure you get it assuming i can get my network working

Sorry guys, you'll have to wait another day for the sneak peek. There are a few things that still need doing on it. And yes, it is Dominator 2
-
OK ITS 12:13 RIGHT NOW FOR ME! I WAITED UNTILL TODAY AND ITS A DAY LATE NOW IM MAD! Just joking with you. I can wait the day. I had a lot of expectations and have been really ants about this one thought because we know its so close. Keep up the good work. I know how working with a aduance like this can be because of my ROM hacks for sonic games.
-
Hey guys i bought a CD =D i found on a argetine site and my dad lives there and bringed to me.
Talking about the game when it will be released ? and what is dominator 2?
-
Dominator 2 is a bot with a big peumatic axe(spike) that i know from RW but i don't really know if it's been in other shows then RW but anyways in the fourth session of RW it did get to the final by beating 101 but it got it's ass kicked in the finals by your wary ownpussycat
-
(http://www.teamtornado.co.uk/photos/r2kst5.jpg)
That, if I'm not wrong, is Dominator 2.
-
[img]http://www.teamtornado.co.uk/photos/r2kst5.jpg[img]
That, if I'm not wrong, is Dominator 2.
And you are wrong...that is Stinger, and suicidal tendencies.
THIS is dominator 2 http://www.teamtornado.co.uk/thumbs/hp-dom2.jpg
-
Here's a good pic:
http://www.teamtornado.co.uk/photos/r2kst6.jpg
Its the one without treads. Judging by the other previews, this is going to be an awesome replica.

NO! It's not the one with the treads...It's the one with the hammer.
-
Sorry, I just fixed that.
-
Sorry, I just fixed that.
It's no problem  . I just found it annoying that 2 People confused dominator 2 with Suicidal Tendencies.
-
OK, I just finished Dominator 2. Without further ado, here it is.
Balancing out the high proportion of flippers and spinners in the UK bots, Dominator 2 is a basic hammer bot with an angular frame that makes it hard to get good direct hits on it. Not the most dangerous replica opponent, but it offers a different kind of challenge with its spike and it is certainly one of the more cool-looking bots.
This version with wheel guards is the one I based the replica off of.

-
Not a bad replica. Its not my fav of them but its not bad at all.
-
sweet can't wait for dsl 2.0 ive been watching development for nearly a year now
-
you know what? it's my favorite replica FOR SURE!
-
Sweet work guys!
Is D2 a middleweight? he looks fairly small in the pics.
-
Gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme, gimme,gimme,gimme,gimme.
-
The shell is well done, but the hammer/spike seems out of proportion. Perhaps it's just me.
-
(http://www.teamtornado.co.uk/photos/r2kst5.jpg)
OMG..... what kind of protection is that?.... a wire net around the arena?
FOR GOD STAKES, put those kids behind a protection window!
geezus...
-
Ohh tnx for the reply but when this version will be released ? :?:
-
Sweet work guys!
Is D2 a middleweight? he looks fairly small in the pics.
It is a heavyweight, but maybe it should be downgraded to MW... the grid wouldn't let me make the chassis very big. So it can be a big MW or a small HW.
DSL 2.0 will be released in x days, where
1/(x^(1/3) + 1) - y/(x + y) = x^2 + y^2 + i
and y is unknown.
i.o. I don't know :P
-
I think it might make a great powerful MW. As a HW it might end up being tossed around by flipper and vertical disks.
-
Today you get to see another part of the slick new graphics in DSL 2.0: the bot selection screen. There's occasionally been some confusion about whether the resurrected stock AI are replacing the original replica AI - this preview should dispel any such fears. As you can see, each team has 3 stock DSL bots and 3 custom replicas arranged in a stylish grid.
-
wow this is absolutly stunning This is shaping up TO BE the greatest mod for anygame EVER.
the only thing it is lacking is SUPPORT FOR NVIDIA 7XX series and up
-
Those menus are just stunning. I cant wait much longer.
-
Those menus are just stunning. I cant wait much longer.
Nuff said.
-
I don't get it, they're nice graphics but if..
There will be ample space for any additional AI teams players want to add. I'm not sure there is even a limit.
.. then why not make 30 teams of 3 bots?
-
When I started to read your text Clickbeetle "Today you get to see another part of the slick new graphics in DSL 2.0: the bot selection screen..."
I thought boring... why we can't see any new parts or something more interesting but when I finished reading and then scrolled down to see the picture it was stunning.
It really was as nice and interesting as every robot sneak peek or so.
-
Like said above, STUNNING!
-
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! That is some NICE graphic but i got a question will the hard to beat bot Stinger be in with it's speacial wheels?
-
I don't get it, they're nice graphics but if..

Because some teams need the 6 bots, for example the RA1 team. It would be kind of dumb having "Robot Arena Reincarnated #1" and "Robot Arena Reincarnated #2". Also the teams list is less cluttered then.
I haven't gotten much more work done on DSL this week as I've been busy doing last-minute preparations for Mechwars 9. But I do have some new graphics for the options menu to show. Notice the new semitransparent cursor. This is to make precision chassis designing easier since the cursor occasionally covers up the points you're trying to move.
Also it's worth pointing out again that these are Vincent's graphics. I'm just implementing them into the game where Vincent didn't have time to.
(http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4294/options1vs.th.jpg) (http://img20.imageshack.us/my.php?image=options1vs.jpg)
-
Dang...nice job on the graphics, Vincent. I like the see-throught cursor.
-
Looks great. Looking foreward to trying it out

I'm starting to be anxious as mean2u had been since whenever.
-
can I just say that Vincent got some damn good talent in graphics?
-
In response to Weedy: No, I never want to play DSL 2.0, i'm not waitng at all because it's gonna be lame. :x
PS: That was a joke, please let me play. :D
PS2: Nice graphics.
-
Duuuuuuude! That is awsome... I may get back into RA2 more... I started to hate it because my grandpa's computer got messed up and had to be fixed... I lost every thing! I love the treads but no offence they need a better skin. When you said RA1 ramakes I thought cool! custom chassis and all! Then I saw the pics and saw stock chassis's... oh well they are pretty darn good though. but are you going to fix the robot wars arena... everthing is backwards. All it needs is to be flipped and could you put the player 1 and 2 start slots in the arena not in the CPZ? well that is all for now see ya! (I don't want to hear a darn thing about my typing unless you say I am getting better or whaterver...)
-
Damit. It is 3:55 am here and it is SATURDAY and no DSL preview. Damit get it here right now or I will do something weird like... I don't know go to sleep?
-
MikeNCR should recognize this week's preview.
Since there are so few members of the RA2 community with real bots, and even fewer with bots heavier than a beetleweight, I thought MikeNCR's lightweight Ruiner just had to be included in DSL 2.0's replicas. The RA2 version of Ruiner is a pretty fearsome opponent with its low, angled down blade. It's a bit taller than the real bot because of RA2's chassis limitations, but otherwise stays accurate even down to the insides.
A picture of the real bot is in the "weapon heads" thread in DSL 2.0 ideas.
-
Ahh you took my sugjestion. That was rather quick.
-
That is so damn sexy.
Can't wait to try it out.
-
really good replica here
-
Making Stingray a replica would be awesome!
-
found a better pic of BOB(at least I'm pretty sure it's bob)
-
Man, Mike's bot is pretty awesome. Definitely got to check out the link for when he's slashing the cantaloupe and the watermelon - WOOHOO!
And congrats on getting into the famed DSL listing, dude!
-
Yep that's Bob, although it's an older version of it. The newest version is lower and doesn't have the lifting arm.
@ewan - your timing is impeccable. I need to make one more replica to round out a 6-bot team. Now which one to do...
-
in RA2 world, I think vertigo would be the more effective opponent, though if stingray is treated more as a rammer then a spinner, it could work well.
-
It's a little late, but here is a nice view of the new bot lab graphics.
(http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1392/botlab8vl.th.jpg) (http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=botlab8vl.jpg)
The buttons at the top have been rearranged into a more logical order. You start at the left with chassis designing, and end at the right with naming your bot and taking a preview picture.
And as an extra bonus, you get to see a snippet of the new battery/motor electricity system. All the batteries can put out a certain amount of amps (which it says in the description) and all the motors draw a certain amount of amps (also in the description). Just make sure battery output = motor input and you won't need to worry about using too many or too few batteries. It's that simple! No more guesswork with wasting weight on unneeded batteries or running out of juice in the middle of a match.
-
looks awesome.
-
this is like............a whole new game, i want it so bad, i'm downloading it first day it comes out......hopefully
-
Hmm, are those some antweight parts in the Power menu?
Edit: Profile settings?
-
I would change the name of the tab. Its were you name your bot.
-
But you need to name your robot AND take a picture out of it. So I think profile settings tab's name is enough good, no need to change it.
-
Edit: Profile settings?
That's what the Overall was... where you take snapshot of your bot, set facing, and Name.
I moved that button to the other side so you can go in a flow as you build a bot from left to right.
-
Very good waiting the release :)
-
The last replica to be included with DSL is done and ready to show!
For this, I chose to make ewan's featherweight Vertigo. The way it is built carries over fairly nicely to RA2. A lightweight, it has a reliable four-wheel drive train and a powerful vertical disc capable of flipping and damaging opponents.
Pictures of the real bot can be found here:
http://www.micro-maul.co.uk/vertigo/img_1423.jpg
http://www.micro-maul.co.uk/vertigo/img_1425.jpg
-
Very nice, and on a Friday too!
-
Eh, not your best, but still very nice.
I think if I could change anything on it it would be the size of the disc or the height of the lexan top plates, something on it looks out of proportion.
Very nice paint job and replica nontheless (just throwing in some constructive critisicism). Can't wait for the release!
-
very nice replica. I do agree however, the top lexan plates should be at a lower angle. Great work though.
-
can't wait to try my LW bot against this :D
-
i still dont understand how you do this all with readme,, or did you get a copy of 3DSMAX 4.2 or 5
-
I think he uses both... readme + 3ds max
-
Nope, I use 100% Notepad. Although recently I've figured out how to use Excel as a sort of poor man's 3DSM.
Anyways here is a preview of the fancy new Team HQ graphics.
(http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/2519/teamhq8nf.th.jpg) (http://img354.imageshack.us/my.php?image=teamhq8nf.jpg)
-
Wow thats great. Whats with the new bot lab option? Is it just an alt to doublt click a bot? One last coment, TOILET SEAT OF DOOM!!!
-
The bot lab button has always been there... you probably just haven't noticed it because double-clicking is so much easier. It's funny, Firebeetle thought that button was new too when he saw it.
Did you know there's a "Continue" button on the Select Team screen too?
-
It all looks so good. If you need any help with component design, arena design, etc. that can be done in Rhino, my offer to help out (possibly become a small part of the team) still stands. I also have about 2 years of experience with photoshop, so I could help out with that too.
-
I have been playing this game for a very long time now and I have never noticed that.
-
 I still rememeber when Mean2u said some time ago that the fullscreen button is new. xD
Lolz. I have played the game less than he and I have seen all of those buttons.
-
Preview time!
All the stock AI teams have been upgraded, so I thought to myself, the Rookies team should be upgraded too. These bots aren't built to be all-pwninating invincibots, just example bots demonstrating good building techniques (like using a small-as-possible chassis and not wasting any weight, unlike the original Rookies bots). Even so, they are good enough to be competitive against the new AI.
I also haven't forgotten the "coolest bot contest" that was held after DSL 1.0 was released, where the winner's bot was promised to be included in the Rookies team in DSL 2.0. That bot was IVIustang's All Terrain Train, so it is replacing Atom Smasher in the new Rookies.
MW - C.R.U.S.H.: A fast hammer bot with 4 Magmotors for drive, a small JX burst for the weapon, 3mm titanium armor, and extra bottom armor.
MW - Forkie: Servos don't work for lifting arms for some reason, so the new Forkie has a flipper powered by a large JX burst. It has 2 Magmotors for drive and 5mm plastic armor.
HW - All Terrain Train: It can't fight very well, but ATT can climb over most anything with its suspension wheels. With a little motor upgrade, it's king of the stunt arena.
-
Forkie looks like it has the Chassis of True Love...
-
Is that Matilda's flipper on Forkie?
I like the ATT - saw it on the DSL2 preview video, and liked it so much I built my own ...

Just crossed my mind. Do you have any new labels for the game? And also some totally new chassis skins would be cool too. So all my robots wouldn't look that dummy as they are now.
I'm too lazy to reskin them and also I'm not that good on any drawing program and also I'm just lazy to find any good skins on them because the main reason on my robots is to be destructive.
-
I think you should make a icon for DSL 2 because it kinda bugs me that its still the normal RA icon.
-
I don't even know if i'm allowed to show this (this was my reward from a looooong time ago). The DSL 2.0 icon.
http://www.vincent.blueforgefire.net/dsl2/dsl.ico
-
why don't u make the black around the round icon transparent?
-
Because they don't know how to do it.
-
I'm sure you've all tried this, but I thought I'd give it a go. Here are some bots I've made from the previews in this thread. They're not perfect, but it's still fun to use them.

 Good job. Well done.
ZZZZZZZZZOOOOOOOMGGGGGGG I'M IN MIDDLE WEIGHT CLASS!!!! ZZZZZZZZOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMGGGGGG.
-
Although recently I've figured out how to use Excel as a sort of poor man's 3DSM.
I use my graphing calculator. Very handy!
-
I thought you had 3DSM, Megabyte.
Well anyway...
Here are the other 3 Rookies bots you'll be able to drive in DSL 2.0.
LW - Sting Ray 2: A total design overhaul from the original Sting Ray. SR2 is a thwacker running on NPC-T64's, giving it good speed but keeping it controllable. It also makes an effective pushybot with its front skirts. Big, shiny, angled wheels and a wickedly curved tail make it one of the coolest bots in the team.
MW - BOT-CHOY 2: How many people, when they first got RA2 and saw BOT-CHOY in the Rookies team, thought, "OMG AWESOME A BOT WITH DIESECTOR JAWS!!!!" and then tried it out and were like, "Oh..."? Well, no more. BOT-CHOY 2's upper spike strip is on a T-Minus Snapper, and can be used for flipping and crushing, much like Diesector. Its armored, wedgy design and tough 4-wheel drive enable it to bully around almost any bot. Probably the toughest new Rookies bot.
HW - Walrus: Walrus has been upgraded to a full 800-kg heavyweight, instead of a MW ballasted into the HW class. It features some powerful E-tek drive, a huge pneumatic ram with 8 spiked clubs, and some heavy 5 mm steel armor with several additional armor plates over it. If the ram fails, Walrus also has a fairly effective rear wedge for getting under opponents and pushing them into hazards.
-
Very nice, I may not remove the Rookies team this time around! :D
-
I thought you had 3DSM, Megabyte.
I have 3dsm, but it's difficult to set up, so instead I mod with notepad. And this is wehere my calculator comes in handy.
-
Waiting the release =) vry good graphics
-
I think we have to wait for next Christmas...
-
Or just a week or two because of beta testing...
-
Here's another preview... quite possibly the last one
As soon as I have time, I'm going to install DSL 2.0 on my family's other computer to make sure I didn't forget anything. Then I'm going to get beta testing started.
But for now, some cool new surface layers made by Firebeetle. These make it possible to make decent skins in the bot lab. The pics are a bit outdated; that's why the new graphics aren't there.
Gradients, available in red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, blue, magenta, purple, black, gray, and white, in several different styles: circle, inverted circle, square, inverted square, up, down, left, right, and half-width up, down, left, right. Lots of choices for neat in-botlab skinning.
Tint your current chassis color red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, blue, magenta, purple, black, gray, or white with these nifty color tint surface layers.
-
THAT is seriously cool.
-
I didnt skin most of my bots with anything other than RA and some came out nicly but this it going to make them much better.
-
Cool textures but Photoshop for the win. :P
-
i seriously can not wait
-
So I don't have to wait till next Christmas! YAY well can't wait this is going to get me back into ra2 more hopefully! (the sad story of me giving up will arise some other time...)

This isn't a sneak peek to DSL-TC 2.0 but I wanted to give you something before you get totally bored. I AI'ed my Spike Beetle II and it isn't as good fighter as when I'm driving it but it is surprisingly mean opponent even it looks quite dumb when it is moving. You have to choose carefully your bot against it.
Well... that wasn't much AI'ing, copy and paste few stuffs and then wrote few lines text but still.
So here's the thing. It's a video of Spike Beetles fighting each other. Original Spike Beetle got bit beaten up but it can easily win 2x Spike Beetle IIs against it.
And talk about lack of sparks... Here you some sparks.

Yay first download...it's pretty nice...talk about physics explosions. Lol, that's a lot of hinges :o .
-
Yeah there happens Havok explosions easily with axle mounts.
And that's why a lot of axle mounts because then the discs will keep their speed up better than just using static weapons on the discs.
-
Will 2.0 sopport 600 series nVidia cards? I have one.

I'm assuming if the old version of RA2 does, this will.
-
I dont think it will unless they make a fix because 6600 and up are screwed
there is a fix for this on the official fourms.
The reason the patch will not work in dsl is the teams are going to be supporting 6 bots instead of 3.

luckily, if you know the layout well enough it doesn't matter much(from my experiance)

Gahhh. I have a 6600. Vincents awesome graphics will mean nothing! Gaaaah!!!
$%^$! $$@#^! %^$&*%%^!

Change to ATI.

Change to ATI.
I don't hhave a money tree in my backyard. ATI is too expensive. At least make a fix that splits the teams so there's 60 or so teams of 3 bots each. I want to keep my current system and still be able to see the graphics.
-
Uh,sorry for the huge bump.
Jalor, maybe you could disable your gfx card while playing RA2,dunno how you would do that.
As for the beta testing, hows it going? I dont even know if its started yet.
You guys put so much effort into DSL 2,gotta say that all of you are damn dedicated and all.Keep up the good work!! :)
-
Beta testing's almost done. Clickbeetle is making a fix for nVidia users.
-
that is really awsome i just hope it works
no offence but i just wish i could have a more creditable source confirm that because i dont think the testers are supposed to be released or talked about not to sure but thanks for the info if its true i would really like to see this in my computer
-
If you go to Tech Support and read my topic, at the end ClickBeetle states that DSL TC 2.0 has been uploaded, and Goose just needs to put it in the download database.
The wait is almost over...
Also, I think that once DSL 2 has been released, Vincent should upgrade the look of this website to match the new looks of DSL 2. Just one of my ideas. Probably a bad one.
-
No need to be hurling insults at goose. He said he'd get it up today, or soon thereafter.
-
OK, sorry Goose.
-
Ok were waiting in line a city block around the store here. This is killing me to but find another game to hold you off.
-
That was bit unnecessary but I forgot about that BUT because I have the DSL-TC 2.0 already and many others don't and I can't give the link to the file because I think I don't have rights to do that.
And why I said that was because goose has been off at msn and what I have seen, away from all forums for good time and that time is something like 2 months if I don't totally remember wrong.
That's why I was thinking that he has cleared up his messes in his real life.
But I apologize goose.
PS. I wasn't at any nice mood on that time when I wrote that. I was mad for other things and that's why I wrote that.
-
Thread de-stickied, since DSL 2.0 is out now.
-
Okay .... now my turn to apologize.
All I was seeing was "Why doesn't Goose get off his ass and post the new version of the game here?", and that just pushed my piss-off buttons. It's like, no one cared about anything else, they wanted the game no matter what. I did, too - a LOT - but i also wasn't about to insult the guys who built the thing in the first place.
anyway, this is all moot now, since the new version has hit the 'Net!
-
Hey, it's Sunday and you still haven't showed us a DSL 2.0 preview, what the heck guys?
Sorry, couldn't resist.

ROFL!
-
ok now post the downloaded version
-
It hasn't been made yet.
Just wait. It shouldn't be too long! :D
-
you think it'll be out before school starts?
-
Maybe. It depends. It depends on how difficult it would be to convert it all.
-
It also depends on when school starts.
