Hey everybody, just wanna ask, in DSL, how many wedges needed for a popup? do you need 2 wedges, or one wedge is enough?

2 is what you need, don't have just one.
-
You can make them with 1 or 2, it doesn't matter.
-
One wedge saves weight for other things, such as weaponry or defenses. Two wedges gives wider coverage, and more chance of getting under the opponent. So it sort of depends on what you want to focus on for your popup.
-
Most of the time double wedges are superior- they are preferable where a bot requires wedges to be effective. More wedge hp, and double wedges make it easier for the bot to flank if necessary.
If a bot can function with or without a wedge, and you want a wedge, a single one is better as it is easier to break.
Long single wedges can also sneak between two wedges to win the wedge war- this is why I use overlapping skirts for wedges over small wedges for a double wedge. Most situations though, single wedges will lose to a double wedge (for an example see my matches in BTTB4. Turbine was such a good bot, but its single wedge let it down).

Indeed it did :trollface
Double wedges serve the advantage of greater width and can therefore drive fast at something and have a greater chance at getting under it. In addition, it lowers the chance of the bot having its wedges got under from the side as there's a smaller radius for the enemy wedge to maneuver under it.
Also, single wedges are easier for an SnS to sweep away, as it has leverage to spin your bot, which can leave your back facing the enemy once you've been spun, which is bad news as locomotion can be damaged, which kills your chances of winning off immediately.
-
double wedges are usually better if you dont have to compromise on other stuff like weapons or drive because they are wider.
-
I prefer double wedges, but sometimes the extenders holding the wedges will have to stick out of the sides,
so they'll need protection.

The newest one is having the same problems...
-
so, should i use small wedges for my popup or should i use skirts? and, how do i overlap the skirts so that they are still wedgey?
-
Whatever works, really. It's all trial and error.
-
It depends of the competition you're facing, really.
-
I don't know, the last setup (2 Small Wedge on 2 2X40 DSL Bars (saves 1.1kg than using ordinary 2X80 DSL Bars for the same length)) failed to get under Hnm 4 (in the ring arena :'( :'( :'( ) so, should i use skirts?
-
You do realize this is HnM 4 you're talking about, right? It's like failing to outweapon a crawler. It's fine.
Just make sure it can at least get under FnF.

yes, it can get under FnF(and also Lightspeed and that HW FS on the Cartoon Violence team)
-
See? All good. :P
-
So HnM4 is considered to have good wedges ? No surprise I can barely outwedge it with new versions...
-
but i also can't get under Tambora.....
(a little factoid: Mount Tambora is one of the many volcanoes in my country, Indonesia)
-
Tambora had some pretty good wedges IIRC.
-
@Pwnator
hey, is there any bots which have a wedgeiness level between FnF and HnM4?
-
Now why is it that a large majority of my bots can outwedge HNM4 but not FnF...

Are those large majority of your bots use skirts? or do they use small wedges? and oh, how do you stack skirts for wedges so that both of them have the same wedgeiness?

They use both. And the skirts, just make sure the hinges are symmetrical, and put one wedge on after the other.

can you give me a pic on how to put one wedge after the other? (i tried that but 1 wedge went ghost wedged into the floor and the other didn't and become not very wedgey.
