Title: Come on, people!!! Exchange some bots now!
Post by: decibel on June 08, 2005, 03:17:01 AM
Come on!!! I think that it would be so much fun if every member exchanged at least 1 bot! It is always nice to see other peoples creations and compare them with your own, and maybe get some inspiration to build your own SUPERBOT!

Why don´t make this site's "robot exchange" the biggest collection of Robot Arena 2 robots!!!

The problem with exchanging bots is the modded components circulating around, they'res just too many to keep track of. If even one part is not in your parts folder that's in the exchanged bot, the whole game crashes.

Yes. that is true...   ...but I have exchanged one bot now, and I tried to put in a .cfz file with all the parts that aren't in the dsl tc 1.2 version... but i dont know if it works. If someone downloads my bot: HIV, could you write here if it works and if the .cfz is of any use?

You would've needed to put in the folders of the parts as well, otherwise it still crashes. Unless they're just power or weight mods, then you wouldn't need the folders.

hmm.. I think it was two weight modifications and one power mod...    (A more powerful tminus snapper motor and a VERY light control board and a VERY light and powerful battery)   ...That's why I didn't put in the folders.    did you test the bot? did it crash?

I tried it, not very powerful, but it hid the batteries, so I deleted it.

Ok. Maybe the motor mod didn't work, because it is VERY powerful when I used it on my computer. It can flip Sir Killalot very high without any problem...

I think the bot exchange was meant for bots with only stock parts and should be used for that.  Too much hassle getting a bunch of custom parts for every bot you download.

Not to say I don't appreciate your use of it... I agree this game could use some more life.

Yeah. I have thought of reinstalling my robot arena 2 and reinstall the original dsl tc 1.2 pack and just build a bot from the original dsl parts... but it's so fun to mod things in the game yourself that I rather play it that way and forget about the bot exchange....

Maybe we should start to send in some pictures and info about our bots to the robot showcase or something. 'cause i still think it's very fun to see other peoples' creations and i like to share my own bots too.

Edit:
Hey ACAMS or someone from the staff!  Couldn't you make a nice Robot showcase page here?  It could be exactly like the bot exchange, but in stead of exchanging bots, you could just read about them and watch pictures.  ("exactly like the bot exchange" = the bots would be ordered into weight classes and maybe type of robots, in that way it would be more comfortable to browse the robot showcase)

Uhhhhh, there already is a robot showcase.  :?
It's been dead for about 2 months though.

EDIT: I didn't notice the part in your post about it being organized into weight class and stuff. I think they were going to make something like that a while back, but it didn't happen.

I'll have to remember to add a good 10 or so of my bots to the one here some time.

There only needs to be one showcase.......It needs to be used more often tho.

I am working on the smallest popwedge ever, but it is big by my standards ( I had to use 4 squares as the base) We may end up with a small ant weight wedge for v2.0, slightly smaller than the stock little black one.

Ok is this still alive?

Well it is now.

That pack contains 2 of my best robots ever made in Robot Arena 2. If I re... Yes I remember right (because I use those in online games). There isn't any custom parts so you can use them in any version of the game.

That Heavy Duty II is really A MONSTER. It hits like worth of 700 points when you spin the robot to same direction where the clubs are spinning. It is fast and contains huge amount of batteries. Like 30 battery packs.
It's only weakness is its height. Even it has self right mechanism it doesn't work very well but even you are upside down the spinning defence does damage other robots what tries to hit it.

And little hint to all. Let's only add of DSL and stock parts made robots in this thread so they would work in everybody's game.
