Title: Combining Mods DSL+Ironforge
Post by: DasUglystik on April 24, 2015, 04:11:03 PM
Greetings:

We have been running a custom implementation by carefully merging the Ironforge and DSL folders with some interesting results.  Anyone else doing this? Just wanted to get a feel for the general attitude towards the concept and also maybe share some of our bots in an appropriate forum...

Regards,

Das

It's generally accepted around here as not a good idea, everything about them is balanced completely differently, so 1 set of components will be obviously better than the other - plus the in-game armours are actually different in both mods too. It's all good for fun stuff, if that's what you want, but won't be useful for competitive play. The Custom Components showcase would be the most accurate place to get bots posted should you want to. :)

Thanks, Craaig.
I was a-feared of this.  We use the components evenly but noticed some startling differences and redundancies within the sets. (Still not as nuts as RA 2014)!

Will heed your advice and stick some shots up there.

The only reason to merge is if you're making artistic bots and want the widest variety of components you can get.  Make a copy of the game before you do this.

If you want to, go for it. It won't be balanced but if you want to screw around in it then it's all good.

Anime references aside I've been wondering about ai merging and how easy that would be?

I've basically done this with the copy of RA2 that I make replicas with.  The extenders, sawblades, and anchors get overwritten, so you need to make backup copies of them.  I went through the txt and gmf files of each one and added "Classic" to the ends of their names.
