Title: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Thyrus on June 13, 2010, 05:18:44 AM
Don`t know if someone of you has ever seen this before.

I was playing with the snapper2 and was unable to compile the component.cfz. so I went into the dsl folder and copiepasted the bsg.txt and changed everything so it was using the snapper2.gmf. I went ingame and then this happend:

Glitch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAXFFYZN0UY#)

Hahaha win

Can you post the .txt ? I don't fully get how you used the gmf.

Code: [Select]
name = BSG-200 Small Burst Motor
dir = snapper3
type = mechanics
base = BurstMotor
model = snapper3.gmf
preview = snapper3.bmp
description = A small burst motor with optional reverse functionality. It packs a lot of power for its size, but it doesn't fire as fast as other burst motors.  It takes 24.5 amps to fire.
master = motor
styles = BSG-200, bsg200r.txt, BSG-200R, tminussnapper1.txt, Mag Snapper
passthru = axle_collision
elecMaxInOutRate = -245
burst = 20 60 65
power = 10 65
firesound = sounds\burst_trigger.wav
attachsound = sounds\cmp_generic.wav
standard = 1
mass = 15
hitpoints = 6000
Sort = 11
changed power and burst cause I wanted to test something

HHHHAAAAXXXXX!!!!!!!
It's like you attached the snapper arm to the chassis.
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Stagfish on June 13, 2010, 05:32:16 AM
so now we can make replicas we couldnt make before!
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: RedSawn on June 13, 2010, 05:36:50 AM
HOLD IT!

Does it actually work? Like, swing the whole chassis around when a bot is built around the glitch.
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: JoeBlo on June 13, 2010, 05:39:47 AM
it appears the attachment points were messed up somewhere along the line and the first point in on "the other end" of the burst movement joint

I figure it could easily be done with any burst by changing the attachment points to base.

what did you change with the GMF to get it with those attachment points ? there is more to it then a simple text change
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Thyrus on June 13, 2010, 05:42:45 AM
the bad thing about it is that if you go to the garage it is in the normal position again. but I haven`t played with it much since I just made that fail 20 minutes ago.

@Joe: I did nothing to the gmf. just .txt file editing (changing "bsg" to "snapper3" stuff)
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: JoeBlo on June 13, 2010, 06:11:07 AM
so you have never done anything to that GMF at any time ? its very odd to end up in that situation with the attachment points such as that ?

nice work finding it shame it cannot be exploited in any real way
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Thyrus on June 13, 2010, 06:23:36 AM
no, I did nothing to the .gmf.

yeah it`s sad since this would`ve made replicating much easier like stagfish said.

I have twice accidently managed to do thes with Snapper II when I was axle loading it. I dont know if that is a useful glitch, because the area where you can attach is still the outlined box you see. Dont know about what happends when you go to test garage because I always scrapped the bot when that happened.
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Somebody on June 13, 2010, 10:12:21 AM
So wait can you attach things to the moving baseplate or just in the box? And do they turn with the chassis after placed? This could change bot building forever!

Hey, is it OK if 027 uses this snapper for JSL?
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: somestrangeguy on June 13, 2010, 10:34:55 AM
The area where it allows baseplate mounted parts that cant go trough chassis can only be mounted inside the box area, I dont know if you can attach some things like multi extenders to the rotated away baseplate because both times this happened to me was in Stock. So you guys go test it out and stuff.

Hey, is it OK if 027 uses this snapper for JSL?

what`s jsl?
you can do with that whatever you want but I don`t beleve it will work fine as a snapper.

THat's not true. I have one idea I could use this for...

will you tell us your idea?
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Sage on June 13, 2010, 11:27:45 AM
I'll just build it.

Can you send me that component all ready to go? I'm too lazy to do it myself xD
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Urjak on June 13, 2010, 11:29:09 AM
If the motor could be set to move the chassis, then you might be able to Effe glitch motor directly on to the chassis.

EDIT: Oh, you can only attach parts inside the boxed area.
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch

I have no idea if this will work... probably not now that I think about what Urjak said.

Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch

My original idea didn't actually work. But I figured out how to use this glitch to stack things, so take that Joeblo!
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Urjak on June 13, 2010, 12:37:34 PM
This kind of stuff shouldn't be allowed in tournaments because it requires modification outside of the botlab, and technically the use of custom components.

Sage, can you send me that haxord bot above? I have an Idea >:)
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch

so this is the first glitch using a custom component?

Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Gazea2 on June 13, 2010, 12:42:32 PM
I think so.

I agree that it should be disallowed from tournaments as well. (This means even more rules!)
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Thyrus on June 13, 2010, 12:44:48 PM
so what should we name this... thing?

Sage, can you send me that haxord bot above? I have an Idea >:)

I'm sure you can figure it out, Mr. Engineer :)

EDIT: love how I turned it from "that's kinda cool" to "OMG you can't use that in tournaments that's cheating!" xD
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Naryar on June 13, 2010, 12:47:46 PM
I don't think so if we consider negative weight components. Or is that even a glitch ?

For names... maybe chassis eFFeing because it's quite similar to the effe glitch but you turn the chassis.

O WAIT... what about chassis Thyrusing ?

It's like the Zero Glitch or whatever it's called.

Its the word filter ACAMS put in place. It replaces another word :P

Nice glitch anyhow, could be interesting..

Post by: Gazea2 on June 13, 2010, 01:34:04 PM
It's a filter for an extreme form of "poop". You can un-filter words in your profile.

Anyway, at least we can all activate the ZeroG glitch now. :P

This looks cool.

And Thyrus, JSL was that mod you said that you should call the "LSD Mod" a few months ago. Remember?
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Trovaner on June 13, 2010, 07:15:53 PM
It is the Zero Glitch and as such has already been included in the rules with that name or under the category of text file editing.
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: DuckRA2 on June 13, 2010, 07:24:28 PM
it\'s just stacking?

and yes, the zero glitch was very good. but it isn\'t STOCK. it needs additional parts from outside the game (it\'s what i called text raping, he discovered it, i just perfected it, and made it smaller) i used to use it when testing concepts, to check if they work, it\'s not so good for much else.
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Sage on June 13, 2010, 07:54:22 PM
NO no, the Zero glitch can be activated inside the bot lab, without external components. It's a different effect. I way I stacked those items was rotating the chassis with the snapper.
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: R0B0SH4RK on June 14, 2010, 12:18:42 AM
Doesn't really matter what this is IMO. It's done with .gmf editing, therefore in the same neighborhood as BFE, AAM, et all, and therefore already illegal in most tourneys/BotM's.

Props to Thyrus for discovering this, making the video and sharing it with us. +rep 'cuz I liek :D
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: Thyrus on June 14, 2010, 12:21:03 AM
no GMF editing. just textfile, ROBO :)

@ 027 LB: ah yeah.. the LSD mod, I remember. yeah you can use it I think but may you wait till we see what we can do with that?
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: cephalopod on June 14, 2010, 06:50:58 AM
Does this mean it's already outlawed in BOTM?
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: JoeBlo on June 14, 2010, 07:13:13 AM
if my theory is correct (and I will test it) this is a component a simple exploitable thing (though Thyrus didnt do it with GMF's I think its easy to do so).. so not a traditional game glitch but one created by a component.. kinda like the anti ballast in a way

but since using a custom component or AAM (to make it happen yourself) is required its already outlawed by current rules

but its obviously going to be abused now with the part released.. simply requires it to be removed and no one will ever know...

Its not a bother for me as I myself know multiple ways to cheat at stacking, some I created myself :P (but for obvious reason dont share these with the public) but it does offer an easy easy way for everyone without this knowledge to also cheat.

Hawhaw, why pay up when you've already recieved it for free?

I tried to make a burst-powered torque reaction hammer like Stinger (Well, not counting the burst-poweredness) but got nowhere. The snapper just rupts. I'll still pursue such a thing with conventional means though :O

Don`t know to be honest. I havn`t played around with that thing cause I originaly wanted to to something different. But I know that if you atach it to an anachor and then you attach a extender on it, the extender colission will face the other way.

I assume you wire the snapper and preform normal eFFe with the base parts
Title: Re: Chassis turning glitch
Post by: 090901 on June 14, 2010, 12:03:02 PM
No, you attach things to the chassis, go to the test area and back. The collision meshes should be on the bottom of the bot. Then you can stack whatever you want in the first thing.

I have been doing some testing and have broken it down to only a single line to make this happen...

I have my theory on why this does happen but still testing it to be true...
