Well it seems a heated debate has sparked in the Showcases, over multiple showcases. So here is a simple poll, Beta's, JX, JX Smalls, or BSG's. I'm leaving out Mag's for obvious reasons. And so we can stay on topic in our showcases, please keep the debate in this thread.
-
It depends on the situation.
-
Bsgs,OR The betas.
Put poll please.
-
Poll is up
-
I'm abstaining.
-
In terms of pure flipping power?

Pretty much. This is gonna turn somewhat into a UK vs. US flipper debate sooner or later. :P

There is a reason why this is in the DSL section and only having to do with the motor itself.
-
I'd actually say BSG's.
It might just be me but it seems easier to remember the correct power needed :P
Plus you can have loads more bsg's to beta's and that would be more power.
Although it really does depend.
BSG's are for all-round sorta use.

No, the question asks "What Motor do you prefer?"
In lame man's terms... when you make a heavyweight flipper what is the first snapper you attach to the baseplate or you actually use in the final workings of your robot.
-
It used to be Large JX, but now BSGs.

Still situational. I usually tend to affix my design against a certain bot type. I would use BSGs against flails and DP-heavy VSes and a Beta or two against the rest.
JXes are just bitchy to work with due to their annoying meshes. >.<
-
I haven't built a HW flipper in ages. Initially, I'd probably go for the Beta Burst, but I might actually go for BSG's. They're smaller, lighter, and easier to place than the Beta Burst, so you could have a few more versatile designs with them.
-
BSGs.
The equivalent flipping power in bsg's to one Beta is about the same weight (when you account for batteries and chassis space), although that's not taking into account snapper setups of course.
Besides, I find them easier to work with than Beta's, and I thinnk they allow for more unique designs than Beta flippers.
-
I use Large JX's because I don't know anything. :P
-
I'll wait for 123stw to chime in with his factual information about the motors.
Y'know, bars, graphs, powerpoint presentation and all that jazz. Then I can decide.
-
On paper Beta is better. But in my own experience 4 BSGs > 2 Large JXs > 1 Beta (Or double those figures)
-
BSGs can be arranged in a way that allows for the flipping power to centered on one point for more flipping power than standard angled flippers.
But BSGs simply because they are more diverse and more usable.
-
BSG. Really I care a lot less about the actual flip power then the simple fact that BSG has 8000 health and can be mounted externally, which means I am much less likely to die cuz my chassis got hit. Gigantic chassis with no shape advantage just isn't my thing.

Nope you won't get that.

Oh hai!
Ahem...
BSG if you are making a front hinged flipper/lacking space, you about four.
JXs are good if you want speed in your weapon, like a popup.
Betas for throwing s*** over the fence!
