Title: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!
Post by: I Like Tacos on October 30, 2011, 10:10:08 PM
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/47328first 4.png)
Companion cube is just for awesomeness. And it's my only friend.
Balanced? nope.
I did (try) to make a glowing extender, but it sucks.
I will answer any reasonable questions about the components, and upload them upon request.
The armor plate is half the size of a ram plate, and has only generic attachment points.
* By quality, I mean quality for a noob with out 3ds max

Dude I love the cube. Could you put this stuff up for download?

Download please.
What's the other option for the wide wedge?

@SKBT Sure.

@Mr.AwesumSauce The same, but inverted colors.

EDIT: Oops, I forgot the other components

Is it okay if I use these for a future tounrament?

Here's the full pack!

@Preytor_4 Go ahead, but you may want to tweak the .txt files a little.

I like the blade and armor piece. The other ones are kinda useless.

Im calling that I like Tacos is actually a multiaccount of myself that I am not aware of..

freaky seeing someone make 2 components that I have also made but haven't shown :P

good job.
Title: Re: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!
Post by: I Like Tacos on November 01, 2011, 08:41:21 PM
Thanks everyone!
Here's the explanation for JoeBlo making the same stuff: I snuck into his house, stole files from his computer, and took credit for them!  :trollface

Anyways, this. Nothing too fancy.
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/73820pyramid spikes.png)
I actually made this when I was super lurking GTM, but lost the files. I made it again, with different sizes. I used the basic ram plate model. I know it needs a texture, but I'll do that later. Any ways to balance it more?

They look good, except for the fact you spelled 'piercing' wrong, yeah they look good.

Could I also use these for my future tourney. In fact could I use all components you post from here on out for my future tournament?
Title: Re: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!
Post by: MassimoV on November 01, 2011, 08:48:14 PM
All the components look sweet. The pyramids would look good on an irl DSL bot.

Post by: I Like Tacos on November 01, 2011, 08:51:19 PM
Preytor; I don't mind, as long as you don't say that you made them.
BTW, you may want to add this to the companioncube.txt file:
Code: [Select]
alwaysvisible = trueSo you can see it when you attach it to the base plate.
I'll update the pack when I make 1 or 2 more components.

Why can't spell check be in paint.net?  ::2mad

Post by: Somebody on November 01, 2011, 09:02:13 PM
Good idea for the IRL bots Massimo.

Those are very realistic and nice. I would PM 123savethewhales because he has formulas for balancing components that are going to be used in DSL 3.

Those look really good!
Title: Re: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!
Post by: I Like Tacos on November 01, 2011, 09:24:08 PM
Wow, apparently these are a LOT better than I thought!

These are more intended for stock (I never play DSL). You reminded me, there is a efficiency table on the beetle bros site that I could use. Although, I could balance them for DSL if people wanted me too.

(I fixed the problem, so I removed the last post.)

I had the idea to make a motor specifically for spinners. Now you don't need a big disk or a T connector for a vs!
It is a challenge to get all the extenders on, so I recommend axle loading.
The stats are the same as the HPZ-Tek, so this saves weight.

But your thread title reminds me of this
Sorry for the offtopic.

S Tek is especially awesome, that'll help a lot in bot building.

So I'm going to (hopefully) update the pack today.

But, I was thinking. Should I make the companion cube into a concussion weapon? It's just a decoration atm.

Double Post :(

Updated pack. Companion Cube stays the same, as no one said they wanted it to be a concussion weapon.

Its a .rar because file size.

I better not have to make a quadruple post!

Another lazy, simple component. yay.

I tried to make it red, but the material is so messed up for tribars.

Finally, one that works! Kind of
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/13343quadspike.png)
It's a work in progress, so the attachment point isn't adjusted.

There's a weird shading problem, but I think I just need to flip some faces around.

Could I make a personal request? If you could, could you add a side attachment point to the Hworf spike? I'll give more details if you are willing to do this.
Title: Re: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!
Post by: I Like Tacos on November 29, 2011, 04:28:31 PM
Yeah, just pm me or post here. And where can I find the Hworf spike?
Title: Re: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!
Post by: Badnik96 on November 29, 2011, 04:56:37 PM
It's in DSL under Cheatbot2.
Title: Re: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!
Post by: I Like Tacos on March 09, 2012, 09:29:01 PM
I would do that Hworf spike thing, but I don't have enough details.
Maybe I'll make the attachment points able to have weapons attach to them as well as attaching to extenders.

This next one is fairly simple.
I took the model from the cannonball, which fit the collision mesh perfectly.

If you could get that look consistently for all the UI it would be pretty stylin'.  It reminds me of the games FB and I used to make in The Games Factory.

Fantastic UI work. I need to learn how to do stuff like that. The background looks a little bit empty to me, though, maybe you could add a few battleshots or something in.

@Hercules - I'll put up the DL after it's finished. After all, it's only the main menu so far.

Here's a big image dump for ya.

So... that's it for now. Any thoughts? Yes the background isn't finished.

Here's the new mainmenu.
New status meters and immobility warning:
These are the new buttons at the bottom of the screen. The ones in the main menu are still the same.

The next thing I'll post will probably be a new wheel.

This UI work is fantastic. I have a feeling it would work even better if you could get them all to match up, and have the same style. Once you've got the BG sorted, I'm pretty sure it'd look spectacular.

I'm putting my ui up for download so you can tell me what to change.
This still isn't finished, but here's what I have so far. If there is anything you think that could be better, tell me so I can fix it. I mean anything, like a border, a button, etc. The style might not all match up yet, but it's still in an early(ish) stage.
I'm thinking about making the background (everywhere except the main menu) a hexagon pattern.
Title: Re: *Quality* components by: I Like Tacos!

Hey look I still remember how to make stuff
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/61099hey look i did stuff.png)
It's just a couple things so far, but I'm working on putting more attachment points on all the stock extender section components. All the sizes of disks are done, and you can't tell but all the attachment points have a matching one on the other side of the disk. I'm working on the extenders now.
And also for some reason the extender is blue event though I didn't change the material at all. The compiler does that for other components without textures and I can't figure out how to fix it.
This isn't really a mod yet, but more of an.... extension. (Joke of the year)

And this
(https://gametechmods.com/uploads/images/21416hey cool a ui.png)
I abandoned my old UI project because I didn't like the look of it, and it was just sloppy.
The buttons and the backdrop were all rendered in blender, and the background was made in Paint.net

EDIT: I fixed the color problem by making a solid color bitmap texture, and I finished all the round extenders (both red and black).

Would it be possible if you could make a Dual Z-Tek motor?
It would be like a Dual Perm, but with Z-Teks.

There you go bb
This is the best i could do with it. Maybe it needs to longer, I don't know.

Right now I'm making an alternative to angle, T, Y and all other connectors like that right now that are hopefully going to be worth using. Also maybe a dual axle ztek. Just some ideas. I don't think a dual ztek gearbox will be possible for me though.

There you go bb
This is the best i could do with it. Maybe it needs to longer, I don't know.

It's ok if you can't get the gearbox, at least you made the drive motor variant.

Those are some cool drive motors.

I made 2 new disks, which are both 60cm but have an axle about the length of half an iron spike for each side. It works well for drums. I also made some more spikes.

I think this thing below is the most useful thing I've ever made actually. I made the height slider taller to be more accurate, and I also added some marks that indicate the minimum height requirements for certain components. Sadly, it only works at resolutions of 1024x768 or higher.
I'll probably release this tool soon, but first, what other component heights should I add? And should I make it compatible with smaller resolutions?

I should probably just make a new thread for all of the stuff going into the mod I'm making

im indifferent about the height markers although they seem useful i like the double sided ironspike for axe reasons and i think the disc with the long axle could be very useful good job

Try adding the vertical green snapper to the height marker (It's right in between the vertical RAD and the Z-Tek)

The height guide in my sig is based on a similar idea to your latter mod. I overcame the multiple resolution issue by creating a separate image that would get positioned and resized to match the slider. Starcore V4 was also suppose to include my list of component heights (according to my height guide) but it never got released and I misplaced my copy of it. I have my original list of all the stock component heights for each AP but I'd have to clean if up if I ever decided to release it again.

Aight so I made a new arena the combat zone red and added some other stuff.
It's called it the action box because I'm not very good at naming things
I'd say it's made well, but the actual design isn't all that great. It was more of just me experimenting. (Pro Tip: you should turn off auto indent in notepad++ when editing .py files if you don't want your game to crash)

Here's a download link if you want to try it out, give feedback, or just whatever

Yeah I moved them closer to the center so they wouldn't start over the spikes

I really like your arena. One problem I did notice though is that often the spikes won't fire.
