Tried a design like 6 back then, but the RADs came off too easily (was a MW though). Maybe the LW's better in its division. 7 made me fall off my chair, 8 made me crey 5evur
No idea which one to vote for.
-
Wouldn't be surprised if 7 won, just because of the splash.
Also, I like how 8 and 4 are the only bots who don't have duplicate weapons.
-
Voted 7 because I found it funny.
-
Voted for #6. Awesome work there.
-
Not going to vote, none are combat effective enough.

Lool. I bet you wanted to see 1WD HS? :P
-
I like 4, 6 and 7. Can't decide between 6 and 7 though..

7 is just meh. 6 & 3 are the best.
-

I like 3 but I'm not voting for it.
-
7,6 or 3. probably 3 although it doesnt have a great name
-
1) Too much sacrificed simply for HPZ motors there, underpowered greatly anyway, so it's not as if the HPZs will be able to do much damage anyway.
2) Very messy, probably the worst bot here.
3) Alright, different with the disks at least.
4) lolwuut
5) Too generic
6) Nice idea, but it won't work very well in actual combat (from experience i'm guessing it's quite havoky as well), my second favourite here.
7) Got my vote, funny splash, and a different but well built bot, looks like it can fight well two.
8) Cool story bro
-
I would have loved to see a 1WD HS killer.
-
Facespinners are my favorite, so #7 it is. Although, #8 has such a heartbreaking story, I feel a little guilty not voting for it.
-
I would have voted for 3 but its name is just too generic. 7 gets my vote for having a hilarious story while still having enough room to show off the bot. This is in fact what kept me from voting for 8.
-
7 gets my vote XD
-
1- it has pickles in the bottom left corner therefore it is the best
2- now we wait until naryar sees this
3- generic
4- tons of effort 10/10
5- slightly less generic
6- i like it
7- funny
8- ~lik dis if u cry evertim <//////3~
-
I am voting #6 to bring back the seriousness of BoTM. I must admit though, #4 reminds me of "Teddy Jr." from Conan.
-
Oh look another splash of the month contest.
-
Oh look another splash of the month contest.
Pretty much.
-
Lots of eye candy in these entries that don't actually make the bot any better. #3 is a colourful splash overhyping an average bot, #6 uses the circular splash, #7 looks like a modified v4 Billy Goat Gruffy* but with little jokes thrown in for the lulz, and #8 gives that tl;dr story.
*In fact,
#1: Uber 1337/Tempus Fugit
#2: This one's ok
#3: ReStocked Ninja
#4: Also ok
#5: Child's Play IV
#6: Is fine
#7: Starcore v4 Billy Goat Gruff
#8: Tiny Trinity
Also, a reasonable Stock BOTM with no pony-themed entries?!
-
4, 4, 4
-
I voted 6, could anyone explain how that RAD setup actually works?
-
When the RAD spins on an axle, the axle rotates in the opposite direction to the way the RAD is spinning, in accordance with Newton's second law. Unfortunately, with it being on a free-standing axle, it has no - or extremely low - torque, so it'll be stopped by pretty much anything.

8 because I'm sensitive.

Oh look another splash of the month contest.
Next BOTM, everyone should just make the splash solid white, Arial size 10 font, and just list all the specs and leave it at that.
Lets see how far the BOTM goes.

If we are doing MLA styled splashes then it must also be double spaced with a proper heading at the top.
Specs must be in Uppercase>Roman Numeral>Lowercase form with all sub clauses needing multiple points.
Any Questions?
-
The splash is gonna be on the front page though, so it's important that it look nice.

This ALWAYS gets brought up, the idea of a standardised splash that everyone has to use. And people just never go for it, as MNB said, it's going to go on the front page, so it should probably have a bit of eye candy to it. And if we do have a standardised splash with some eye candy in it, that instantly eliminates the people who only have MS Paint, or something like that. It's a double-edged sword, it just isn't a viable option, in my opinion.

Agreed. Even though I tend to make not-so-serious bots, I think it would be nice to have #6 on the front page. Got my vote.
-
I still vote for a Battleshot Of The Month. Anyone can take one of those. and have it look good.
Then BOTM can still happen with non-candy, as it doesn't have to be front-page.
-
Considering I have the BOTM contest winner window minimised on the front page, and I like the story, I voted #8.
:D
-
I voted 7 because it's funny and effective.

A standarized format can easily be established with a splash that looks clean.
I could do one in MS paint for you in about a week if you'd like to see an example.

Not going to vote, none are combat effective enough.
#3 and #5 will beat any LW you have ever built!

Over a series of matches, my 1WD HSs would win more than those fragile things.
-
I vote #6 for originality's sake.
What russian roulette said.
also what's that #8 ? you think you're going to win by dedicating 90% of your splash to a damn novel ? THINK AGAIN.
-

I made one of the first one wheeled bots made in RA2 and I know what they do, but in an AI tournament they don't work as well as they do when you drive it.

Surely you mean #8? :gawe:

uh yes

In DoD my bot moved faster than quite a lot of the HSs out there, and had more weight dedicated to weaponry, win win situation.
-

I completely agree. Though it is important to make a decent bot, it is also important to make it presentable. If people really think this is a problem, I can make a program that generates the splash automatically (I made one a while back but I'm certain I could do better and make it work for all resolutions).
I'm a little bummed out that I couldn't participate this month but thats fine because we have a few good ones. I ended up voting for 7 but 3 was a close runner up.
-
#8's tl;dr description is really just meant to distract you from the fact that it is horrendously underweight.
-
In DoD my bot moved faster than quite a lot of the HSs out there, and had more weight dedicated to weaponry, win win situation.
I didn't see any one wheeled entries this time ...... you should have entered!

#3 gets my vote!

I wanted to see a 1WD Bot-killer. I.e. One which can defeat one consistently.
ANyways [/arguement with Admin]
-
I was going to enter this, but then I took a Minecraft to the knee. :ouch: Glad to see there was still a good turnout of bots.

Child's Play IV or any good clone thereof?
Also, anyone who voted #6 because it's "the most combat effective" clearly didn't build a rough clone and test it... it's original and it has a nice splash, I'll grant it that, and the weapon does spin absurdly fast, but combat effective it is not.
IMO the most combat effective is #5, but I voted #3 because it's still decent but more original.
-
Number 2 because its the funniest

Gah! I have been duped!
Not gonna change my vote, that's not how i roll.

?!
#8 is totally the funniest. Funnily enough, it would probably also be the most combat effective out of the entries if it'd been built to the weight limit as a Dual Trinity SnS.
-
All of these bots suck... I thought we still had some awesome stock builders here, but I guess not.
-
Congratulations to NFX with #7 - Minor Miner
#1- Wacky Bob
#2- Mr AwesumSauce
#3- Jonzu95 (best bot entered by far)
#4- J
#5- ACAMS (made after cloning Jonzu95's bot)
#6- Fracture
#7- NFX (Nice bot, and nice splash .... the winner)
#8- Kurt Wylde
-
Wait, you cloned Jonzu's bot and entered it? Wut?
-
I thought you weren't allowed to enter.
-
woah only 3 votes for jonzu's bot? i expected way more
anyway, gj nfx
-
Yeah, I think it got kinda overlooked, despite the fact that it was far and away the most combat effective of the bunch, except for ACAMS' clone, but that doesn't even count.
I still picked #7, because I just like facespinners.
-
I think it may have been the splash that let it down, personally. Splashes like that are somewhat distracting from the actual bot itself.
Also yay, I'm back on top. :gawe: Thanks to everyone who voted, and well done to Fracture for coming up with a not-too-bad idea. I thought Fracture's was #5, and Pwnator was #6.
-
5th place? I'm disappointed.
-
Hey, at least we all got votes, didn't we? I thought yours was really good.
-
5th place? I'm disappointed.
Well you would have got another vote, BUT
:embarr ...... I forgot to vote!
-
So... Mineception for the BOTM winner, then?
And LOL@My entry getting 7 votes.
-
Yay! I got some votes!
-
5th place? I'm disappointed.
Look on the bright side. ACAMS and Clickbeetle both liked yours best. That's some pretty high praise.

It is, yeah. I'm glad I got atleast something positive. And the splash was just perfect for me.
-
You so sneaky NFX.
It's too bad my idea had been done before; that got me down. Plus everyone kept pointing out how it wasn't exactly a Tempus Fugit in combat (though it is entirely stable contrary to what Scorp theorized). I really thought that 25% faster than chained HP Z-Teks thing would get to people! Maybe I should have gone with 20% faster for the lulz.
I only recognized Jonzu and J's splashes. (the latter of which came in third, which was hilariously unexpected) So Jonzu and ACAMS's bots were the most combat effective and I had the cleanest splash...why did NFX win? Was it simply the comedy of the background story? Boy, the primary target audience of BOTM sure has changed...
-
I think it might have been the most all-rounded entry, but didn't excel in any specific category. A bit like Mario. I don't actually think Jonzu's splash was the best, personally, I found it very distracting with all the colours and swirls and everything.
Maybe combat effectiveness isn't necessarily as important as it once was in BOTM, though, which might explain why Iron Hornet lost as badly as it did. As people have said, if it's going on the front page, it needs to have some nondescript zing to it, and the splash has got to look reasonably good, so that new arrivals might stick around and give it a look. I'm not a huge fan of going down that road for BOTM, personally, but I suppose it should be fun more than anything else.

well i voted for #1
-
Minor Miner was NFX? I thought for sure that was JD's.
Also I somehow forgot to take into account that although #6 isn't very combat effective, it IS the most technically well-built bot here. Maybe I would've voted for it if I thought of that... but oh well.
-

Looked like JD's splash to me as well. Mostly because it was a splash style that was already used by him.
