Count me in. I'm going to try and get Punch Out! UI done, and make a few bots.

Good to hear. I know that many people have expressed interest in Punch Out! UI so you could potentially do very well.

Hurricane UI would be cool to finish, but I lost most of it in the crash that made me stop working on it. I may try to stick some things together again though.

I do have to admit, that was one that I was looking forward to.

This seems like a sudden and rather short timeframe.  I've got college work that'll keep me occupied for way past the deadline, otherwise I'd try and figure something out.  What exactly is your "action cam" that's being offered as a prize?
Title: Re: Contributor Contest (Discussion)
Post by: Trovaner on February 05, 2013, 04:00:24 PM
It is short notice but I didn't think of it until last minute :P. I figure that if you were already planning to do something than you deserve to be at an advantage. I understand that people are busy but you have known about the anniversary for quite some time. I would still encourage everyone to do what they can in the limited time frame even if they don't expect to win (thats why I listed a goal for the contest).

As far as what the action cam is, it is basically an autonomous camera that views all active bots from the side. It will also rotate to the other side if a wall gets in the way so you will almost always have the optimal viewing angle.

I'll add another edit for regulations regarding AI packs and tournaments.

Ehh, I build, I'll do it.

I'm relieved to see that people are expressing interest in this.

I would also like to apologize upfront for not being able to include the RA2 wiki in this. I keep running it through my head but there doesn't seem to be a non-biased way of evaluating content.

Does anyone see any additional flaws that I should correct? I want this to be as fair as possible for everyone. However, I don't want to be constantly editing the rules when there is so little time for people to prepare. Thats why I want to get the big stuff out of the way and only edit the rules later when absolutely necessary.

I'm thinking of doing a RA2 music video if that counts however I've got a major exam next week so don't expect it definitively.

Lol tutorials really shouldn't worth 3 points.
Title: Re: Contributor Contest (Discussion)
Post by: Trovaner on February 06, 2013, 12:26:39 AM
Point taken. I'll move tutorial down to the mid-level (unless someone has already made one just because it is worth 3).

As far as the music video goes, it is valid for the mid-level as long as it has 8 different bots in it.

I might try something.  It's more productive than playing minecraft.

Thinking of making changed song of RA2.

Hey Trov, can this be worth 0.0005 points?

I'd like to enter but my modding skills are limited to basic skinning, and my AI ability doesn't yet exist.
Title: Re: Contributor Contest (Discussion)
Post by: Trovaner on February 08, 2013, 08:51:19 AM
There are multiple levels for projects so that people don't have to know how to mod to do well. Things like getting friends to come online, make new bots, and creating images with 5 or more bots are completely do-able projects for people that don't have modding skills. In fact, level three projects are under valued by my point system (the time/point ratio is much higher).

6 more days until the anniversary. Even though I can't participate in this contest, I have quite a bit planned for the occasion.

Aside from returning to GTM  :claping , I'm also contributing :

1. Venko's texture pack
http://www.2shared.com/file/z1e99pX-/Venkos_texture_pack.html (http://www.2shared.com/file/z1e99pX-/Venkos_texture_pack.html)

2. Venko's graphical and bot build enhancement tool
http://www.2shared.com/file/Lc9W5l-9/Venkos_graphical_and_bot_build.html (http://www.2shared.com/file/Lc9W5l-9/Venkos_graphical_and_bot_build.html)

Feel free to add the above 2 in the GTM download section.

3.
yo  venko, if youre reading this i plan on releasing all the other pics  vids and whatnot you sent to me on the 18th, being ra2's 10th  anniversary and all.
Mr. AwesumSauce is agreed the points from the 3 huge rars (3D Studio MAX 5; old pics and clips that some of them may be lost; old zips that some of them may be lost) to go on my account. He will post the links when they are ready.

4. I'm planning to showcase some very new (builded these days) stock cool bots in my showcase soon.

So, Trovy, how much points I get for all this?
Title: Re: Contributor Contest (Discussion)
Post by: Trovaner on February 14, 2013, 05:06:44 PM
Unfortunately, I can't accept your entry for the following reasons:
1. Points are only awarded if you release them on the 18th (+/- 24 hours to account for time zones). I would have made an exception if it was just this but there is more...
2. The project must fall into one of the three project levels. Reskins and textures weren't included because they were too easy and couldn't be fairly regulated by special rules (same reason that wiki edits weren't included).
3. You have to make the thing that you submit. The chassis_structure2.gib was modded by me when I created the VGuide (unless you made some other significant modification in the GIB file, I can't count it as something that you modded).

You can still score points for the unshowcased bots but you need to post it when we get closer to the anniversary. I'm sorry that I can't accept anything else but I'm trying to be fair to everyone (especially, non-modders).

Edit: I appreciate the fact that you want to participate and the fact that you bothered to put all this together but I'm not sure what I can do about it.

For the 5 bot limit, is that stock and DSL combined?
Title: Re: Contributor Contest (Discussion)
Post by: Trovaner on February 14, 2013, 05:26:23 PM
Yes, you are limited to 5 bots (regardless of components) for the low-level projects but you can still make an image/video of 8 or more bots after that.

Also, if people are unsure if their entries will be valid, ask yourself if it would be fair to others. For example, I won't accept an image of 8 random chassis that don't have any components. The purpose of having the prize is to encourage participation and further the stated goal; not to see how many loopholes can be found.
Title: Re: Contributor Contest (Discussion)
Post by: Venko on February 14, 2013, 05:35:06 PM
So, basically number

1. No points for texture packs.

2. It's not completely made by me. This bring the question, what if I made those rar without including your "Bot Height Ruler" (don't be mad, I gave a credit to you)... but anyway, I will not get your "action cam" obviously.

3. What about this rars? You didn't comment them.

4. I will post the bots on 18th then.

But can You at least include #1 and #2 in the download section? I'm releasing them officially and for sure, even if I don't get points for them. You MUST TRY the #2 tho, it's really useful, I use it and it help me a lot in the building.

Alright, I added your stuff to the downloads section (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?action=downloads). For future reference, users can upload to this section without me (its no biggie for me to do it for you but I would prefer that people do it themselves).

I only did a quick once over for the files in the rar files. As such, I missed the tutorials that you put in a separate folder. However, unless I'm mistaken, they aren't new tutorials and they can already be found on GTM.

so, i finished all the stuff i wanted for the anniversary

I did day of all the bots in my showcase
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,6848.msg574275.html#msg574275 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,6848.msg574275.html#msg574275)
(admittedly, i wanted to post more bots for that, but i was busy with uploading day 1 of the week of archives), +5 (5 maximum for showcasing)

also, i did a display tourney (that counts right?)
https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,13120.msg574235.html#msg574235 (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php/topic,13120.msg574235.html#msg574235)
it had 26 bots in it... which is 3 mid level points if i am not mistaken, +6

11 points for me :)

I got my showcase (5), my tutorial (2), and my 32 bot display tournament (8). So 15 points for me.

With the forum problems everyone (including myself) is having, I think we should continue to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game for a whole week(ending 25/2/13) or month(ending 18/3/13). I don't think people like Inf should be left out just because they can't log in or post.

The problem with extending the deadline is that it takes quite a bit of time to go through and validate all the submissions. The rules would also need to be changed and rebalanced accordingly. There will be other opportunities/contests for people to get the Action Cam so I don't think extending this contest is necessary.

Furthermore, I have nothing against people that do things for the community without any incentives. Rewards are nice but that shouldn't be the only reason for doing things.

I'm still looking for a long-term solution to the login error but the workaround of deleting cookies seems to work fine ATM.

Eligibility: Limited to people that post in the discussion thread before Feb 20 (this thread). You must include either a link or description of what you did for Feb 18 in your post (if you did more than one thing, you don't have to post it all at once).

If I am missing anyone, please let me know by midnight tomorrow (GTM time). This is a slight extension but considering that people can no longer change their scores, it shouldn't matter. Venko didn't post what he did but he stated what he was going to do and he followed through with it so I just threw him in.

Right now, we have:
| Low-Level| Mid-Level| High-Level| Score (before poll)
Lightning S.| 5| 1| 0| 7
MassimoV| 5| 5| 0| 15
Mr. AwesumSauce| 5| 3| 0| 11
venko| 5| 0| 0| 5

Both Lightning S. and MassimoV were off on the points so if they think I have it wrong please let me know ASAP.
Lightning S.: 5 new bots for 5 points and an image with 8 or more bots for 2 points.
MassimoV: 5 new bots for 5 points, a tutorial for 2 points, and 4 sets of 8 different bots in tournament vids for 4 points. (Edit: This has been corrected.)

Not the turnout that I was expecting but it is what it is. In hindsight, I should have given the reward to a fraction of the submissions instead of locking it in at 3 submissions. Regardless, I am happy to see that people participated.

Maybe a good supplement to BOTM would be Contributor of the month?

Not a bad idea. However, it still takes time to look through and validate all the entries. Not to mention, I would have to create something worth having in order to keep up with the demand for prizes. I'll think about it and give people a little more notice if I decide to do it again.

Uhh, there were 32 bots between both heats in my display tournament.
Whoops, I only saw the first post that you made. I fixed the mistake and our numbers match up now.

I'm still waiting to hear from Lightning S regarding his score.

I'm still waiting to hear from Lightning S regarding his score.
| Low-Level| Mid-Level| High-Level| Score (before poll)
Lightning S.| 5| 1| 0| 7
Only thing I see wrong is that there should be a 2 where the 1 is so the addition is right. Other than that it looks fine to me.
I wasn't performing just addition, I was following this formula:
Score (before poll) = ((1 x # of low-level projects released) + (2 x # of mid-level projects released) + (3 x # of high-level projects released))

The multiplier was only applied when calculating the score:
Score (before poll) = ((1 x 5) + (2 x 1) + (3 x 0)) = 7

Anyways, thanks for double checking. I didn't want to short you any points.
