As some of you may have noticed, I'm running kind of late. The reason for this is because I've been planning on having this BOTM be for RA3 bots. The official release date for RA3 is May 26 so the submission period will be kind of short but I'm sure you guys will have time to make a bot with a simple splash (edit: I've revised the deadline so members will have more time to come up with stuff).
Here's how this works. Every participant creates a bot that follows the given bot restrictions for that month. They then create a simple splash for their bot and uploaded it to GTM's BOTM Uploader before the deadline expires. After the deadline expires, a poll will be created for the community to vote on their favorite entry. The splash with the most votes will be put on GTM's homepage for a month.
Bot Restrictions- RA3 - Stock
- Standard (or IRL if you want to go with something a tad more strict)
- HW
- No Cheats
Splash Rules- Entries must be uploaded using the BOTM Uploader.
- One bot per splash
- One splash per member
- Please do not put anything in that identifies you as the creator. Credit will be given after the poll to reduce bias and give people a chance to guess who made what.
- There must be at least one image of the insides in the splash.
- The weight must be given in the splash.
- Images must be either JPG, PNG, or GIF.
- Images must be no wider than 700px and no taller than 800px.
- Entries must be in by June 7, 2016 at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time (GMT - 6:00).
Please upload your entries using the BOTM Uploader (https://gametechmods.com/forums/index.php?page=BOTM).

if i don't get $19.99 from doing chores or some sh** it might have to come to that

Honestly i'd much rather have a RA3 BOTM for July. A 5 day submission period is very, very short for BOTM.
Not to mention the time we need to adapt and understand RA3...
-
I don't think anyone's expecting Absolute Chaos out of the gate, but I would support RA3 being the next BOTM since it really isn't much time at all
-
One could argue that the short deadline hurts those who were not a part of the closed beta. Those involved would probably be far more adapt at ra3's system compared to the rest of the fourm who are just starting out.
I don't think that it matters at all, but a few members might feel otherwise.
-
Can take picture on RA3?

I don't know who's on the beta but do any of them usually take part in botm?
-
Only people I know that could potentially be in the beta is CB/FB, naturally since they were invited to the offices. I didn't even know there was a closed beta going on to comment on anyone else.

Yes. Steam has a screenshot feature where if you press... F11, I think... it takes a screenshot. It's either F11, F12 or F5.
Just to ask, what would count as standard building for RA3? We don't really know what there is to build with, so wouldn't everything be pretty much standard?

They mentioned last q&a that they have a handful of members from the community helping them with feedback on the game.

F12.
Standard must be taking it from stock RA2 rules. Overlapping is fine, no BFE (Knowing the bot files will be JSON format) or AAM (That'll be possible in some regard, surely), glitches are OK (if we find any 5 days after official release that'll be embarassing)
-
Honestly we have no idea what standard means in a RA3 context : if it's DSL-standard or stock (unrealistic) building.
-
With the new botlab it will be harder to cut out bot for the splash
-
Wait...
Why the fuk are we doing an RA3 BOTM, when none of us have any experience with it yet?
Like, nobody knows if any sort of tricks/etc are possible yet.
-
I was kinda thinking, maybe I'd make the background image now, and then just quickly edit in whatever crappy thing I build on the first day I have RA3.

Bot of the month: serious Business
-
It'd be an interesting reminder to us in the future when we're making much better RA3 botm robots but 5 days to make a bot and splash may be too little time.
-
Maybe move the deadline to like June 2 so we get a full week?
-

You sure? I know it wasn't exactly very good quality, but I made my may BOTM entry in about a day or two and it seemed fine (it did get some votes, if any.)
Personally, I don't know how many days one should spend on making a bot and a splash, so I guess I can't say too much about this.

more days to enter = more entries, because people tend to procrastinate and miss deadlines, suffer from builder's block, or have IRL things to do. it's very simple.
-
Alright, I'll extend it another week just so that people have time to experiment with things.
-
Standard (or IRL if you want to go with something a tad more strict)
Are we talking stock standard or DSL-S standard? We have no idea what we'll be able to do and not do in RA3 in terms of glitches.

I'm thinking something along the lines of DSL-S since that is more akin to what the developers may have had in mind (as opposed to what we are actually able to do in the botlab).
-
So um, considering what RA3 actually is, is this still going to be an RA3 BoTM?
-
So, uhh, what's the cutoff for "heavyweight"? Considering there's no weightclasses in RA3.
-
You can still build in it, right?
-
I'm thinking this will be remade as a RA2 BOTM considering how unworkable RA3 currently is.
note: this is not an official change by trov, please wait for an announcement by him
-
I think there's been enough cool looking bots made that an RA3 BOTM could be serviceable.

Only problem is, they'd have to all be art bots (if that even is a problem at all.) Plus, with the new bot lab, isn't it harder to make splashes?

I'd say it's easier, with Steam's screenshot stuff.

not really, steam screenshots are a pain to find on your hard drive, and you cant pose bots in the botlab, and the in-game camera angles don't give you much freedom, and the camera in the botlab sometimes glitches
-
It would also be a reminder that maybe we shouldn't plan BOTM before RA4 (if there is one) comes out and we have no idea what anything is and what there is to expect.

botm is kill?

Let's see some Bots on BOTM.
