Things you thought were true when you were a kid
« on: February 09, 2013, 03:55:02 PM »
What are some things you thought were true as a kid, but have since found out that they were false?
Here are some of mine

That Audi had to be the official car of the olympics.
That kissing led to babies
McDonalds is okay to eat every day.
I would watch Saturday morning cartoons forever.  FOREVER.
I thought Toronto was in the Northwest. Basically I thought Toronto was where Vancouver is. That fact that the Blue Jays play in the AL East confused me, because of this.
That NYC was the capital of the united states
I thought Canada was just one big state.
I thought a no-hitter was a baseball game in which no batter so much as made contact with the ball, and that's why no hitters were such big deals. When I was about 8, I learned what a no-hitter really was. Then I heard of something called a perfect game, and figured that that must be the thing where nobody made contact. I was 12 or so before I had it all figured out.
I used to think New England was the name of the city the Patriots played in.
I thought the Seahawks and Redskins were in-state rivals and that the Seahawks represented Seattle, and the Redskins represented the rest of Washington.
I thought that if you broke the screen on a TV, you could interact with the people inside of it.
I thought Killertron won Robot Wars Series 2
I thought it was Barg's root beer up until last year.
I used to think New York state was some kind of megacity.
I though you bought babies, instead of making them.
Same with wives...
I used to think that Alzhemeir's was actually Oldtimer's.
I thought movie scenes were recorded in chronological order all the way from the beginning to the end.
I thought bands recorded songs playing/singing altogether (like in a concert).
I thought that all TV shows were recorded live.
I thought that bands played songs on the radio live.
I thought that since the President lived in Washington DC that he also served as the Mayor of that City.
When I turned 10 I could start my journey onto becoming a Pokemon Master.
Cars weren't really moving, but rather the Earth was just turning.
The world used to be in black and white until they developed color.

Yours?

I thought Robot Wars would never end
Same for Battlebots.
I thought "Ford Fart" was an actual licensed, produced and distributed model of truck.
I thought RA1 was impossible to beat.
I thought every GTA game was impossible to beat without cheating.
I thought the earth spun not because of gravitational pull and all that; I thought it was powered by time.
I thought Gray Hair was a disease.
I thought menstrual periods only lasted a day (and I only just figured that out yesterday (I'm 16 (close enough)))
I thought that Razer was a horrible robot (Robot Wars: Arenas of Destruction)
I thought that if I looked really hard in everyone's closet, I would find Narnia.
I thought mustaches weren't cool (and then middle school happened and I was awesome)
I thought the President (of the USA of course) fought in the wars with the other guys.
I thought there was no difference between Marines and Navy
Same for Airforce and Navy. Ultimately I thought the Marines, Navy and Airforce were all one thing.
I thought Civil Police and Security Guards were part of the Army.
I thought North Korea liked us.
I thought Russian Atom Bombs were still cool.
I thought Japan was part of China.
I thought the Mongol Horde was something in WoW
I thought that my penis was just for peeing and my balls were just decoration.
I thought computers didn't work without monitors.
I thought Soul Calibur 2 was the best game in the world, then I got Soul Calibur 3, and then Soul Calibur 4 came out, and now I'm watching silently over Soul Calibur 5.
I thought bagels were doughnuts without the glazing.
I thought Icarus was a bird.

Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.

I'd almost say gay sex would be painful either way...

But I suppose it would depend on your partner's girth.

I always thought Lenin was a pretty cool guy. He's definitely cooler than Stalin anyway.
