Well done
But instead of bonus points, you get to come down from the penalty step!
Poor acams
All alone

Google = proper awnser?
I dont think so

Does that mean he asks the next question? Or can anyone do one?

Yes it does mean he asks the next question

What is the latent heat of vaporization of water in btu listing all variables
-
Lwater(T) = − 0.0000614342T3 + 0.00158927T2 − 2.36418T + 2500.79[4]
hooray for Google :D
-
Not the correct answer......NEXT!!
If nobody answers correctly by tomorrow I will give clues.....back when I learned about latent heat (about 25 years ago), google had NO answers, infact 5 years ago there was very little on the subject.
-
*Uses Wikipedia*
Erm?
Water
Latent Heat Fusion kJ/kg=334
Melting Point °C=0
Latent Heat Vaporization kJ/kg=2260 (at 100oC)
Boiling Point °C=100
EDIT: In BTU that's 2142.066691908 Btu/kg
-
https://gametechmods.com/Right-Wrong.swf
-
CAN'T YOU USE JOULES LIKE EVERYONE ELSE ???
Anyways, SM forgot to convert kilojoules into joules into BTU, so his answer is x10^3
2142000 Btu/kg
-
https://gametechmods.com/Right-Wrong.swf
-
What? I used a Kj-->BTU converter!
-
The British thermal unit (BTU or Btu) is a traditional unit of energy equal to about 1 055.05585 joules
o wait....
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I READ IT WRONG
(http://actualplay.roleplayingpublicradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/fffuuu.jpg)
-
OK, here is a clue
The latent heat of fusion of water is 144 BTU per lb @ sea level
Your home AC is rated using this formula
Ever hear of a 3 ton unit....it does not weigh 3 tons, that is how heat it can move.
A 3 ton unit unit is 36,000 BTU/HR
3 tons of ice = 6,000 lbs
So
6000 (3 tons) times 144 (latent heat) equal 864000 divided by 24 (the hours in a day) equal 36,000 -------- a 3 ton unit
I want the answer to be _________BTU/LB @ sea level
The answer IS out there, because I saw it!
-
Oh, Hi there... Thought this thread was about bars...
Nice thread, J24.
970 BTU/LB @ sea level.
(My nephew's name is Kelvin...)
What do I get? How about a promotion, cash, first-born(no teenagers) black gold, gas for life(won't go there),...

Genetics:
Why does survival of the fittest (natural selection1), actually undermine the theory of evolution(increasing complexity of life forms)?
1Darwin's def: 'better adapted for immediate, local environment'.
-
Ooohhhhhh, I learnt this recently.
*Damn, I can't remember*
Something about natural selection not necessarily leading to a more complex life form, just a better one for it's environment?
-
Maybe because according to evolution, most mutations that "create" new species are random, not always positive for the mutant, hence they do not always help the species to be more fitted, hence do not strictly contribute to survival of the fittest.
O wait. Mad asked from SotF to evolution, i did the opposite :P
-
Natural Selection doesn't make for more complex life forms, it simply makes them adapt best to their environment.
More complex life evolved by environments becoming harder to adapt to or the change in the environment.
-
Because life forms can learn to adapt to unfavourable conditions. Once they become comfortable in said envirmonment, even if it's not a perfect fit, the one born with mutation will always find it hard to adapt
(These questions are really hard for a thread called "pub quiz")

Blame ACAMS and Mad for that
-
Blame Mad....my question was common knowledge.

Who's posting the next question, because I have a good'un.

whoever mad says is posting the next question (the person who got this one the quickest)
-
Blame Mad....my question was common knowledge.
I LOL'd
-
Blame Mad....my question was common knowledge.
My question should be.
But as for yours, I can tell you work for an Oil Company.....Pinocchio. :p
Nice try guys... Not talking about mutation, which we can talk about elsewhere.. (mutations are very, very rarely benficial to the organism, and almost always a death sentence,.. ending the passing of one's genes.)....But Natural Selection as a supposed means of facilitating (causing/bringing about) evolution. This is one of those issues you don't find published. But slaps you in the face when it's pointed out...
Hint: For idea of 'evolution' to happen, it requires an increase in information(for increased complexity).
But,
(1) Natural Selection can never provide any new information.
(2) But most often causes an actual loss of information... which is the wrong direction!.
Why?
-
Because Jesus said so! Clearly...
-
Because Jesus said so! Clearly...
-
Natural Selection undermines evolution because it only "weeds out" the "weaklings". It does not make them more complex.
-
Because Jesus said so! Clearly...
Thank you for getting this perfectly interesting conversation off-topic.
-
Natural selection should result in less variety.

Ok, since this thread has gone dead, and I had a question I wanted to use... I'm going to use it anyways. Identify the robot in this picture:
-
Dantomkia
-
Nope
-
...Dominator 2?
-
Which competition?
-
Yaay for the bump!
Anyway, umm, Sgt Bash?
-
No correct answer yet. It is from Robot Wars, I'll tell yo uthat.
-
Hmm...I've got no real idea, I can't remember a bot with that sort of shape, so I'll say Flirty Skirty.
-
Terminal Ferocity?
-
No idea.
-
Atomic
-
I don't know it this was clear or not, but the yellow and black stripe (indicated by the red dots) is the arena floor, not part of the robot.
-
Oh, right...is it Mace?
-
...Refbot?
-
Madiaba asked a hypothetical that there IS no answer to, and now a pic we can't see.
I guess Toro, because I think I see the arm.
-
Wrong show, dude. All the others are wrong too.
-
I still can't tell which bit is the robot.
-
*wobbles up to the bar, highly intoxicated*
*HIC*
Where was the man when he jumped from the bridge?
-
Chaos?
-
Ok here's the pic, with the floor cropped out. For your first hint, I'll tell you that you're looking at the mystery 'bot from a brid's eye view.

New question!
Whats the definition of philosophy?
-
New question!
Whats the definition of philosophy?
Philosophy is etymologically the love of wisdom. But as a whole, it is the study of thoughts and opinions, and aims to make us choose how we should live our lives. As such a thing, it is magnificent and should be interesting for every individual.

Bump
Question: NO GOOGLE.
Expand (x + 4)(x + 3)
-
x^2+7x+12
-
x^2 + 7x +12
That's so easy compared to our maths lessons.
EDIT: FUUUUUUUUUUUUU
-
Tis meant to be a pub quiz, not university challenge -_-'
S_M, your go.
-
Explain why (n^2 - a^2)-(n-a)^2 (when n and a are integers) always results in the result being even.
-
All integers are multiplied by 2 and all multiples of 2 are even.
I had a GCSE maths test TODAY with that on it!
-
What year are you in?
-
11, Module 3 retake.
-
All integers are multiplied by 2 and all multiples of 2 are even.
I had a GCSE maths test TODAY with that on it!
Not the are squared (^2)
-
Oh, the statement was still true though. *~*
-
Not explained enough
-
I mean true about every multiple of 2 is even.
-
11, Module 3 retake.
Awesome. Haven't met any other Y11's except SM, PA and IRW. Did you do the GCSE already?
-
Yeah, did it in June. Got a high C
-
The four of us covered all of the GCSE stuff in Y10, but we won't do it until June.
-
Explain why (n^2 - a^2)-(n-a)^2 (when n and a are integers) always results in the result being even.
Any integer (Z) multiplied by itself, positive OR negative will get a positive integer, so as long as both n and a are integers, n^2, a^2 and (n-a)^2 are even integers (multiples of 2).
Any simple operation with only even numbers (adding, substracting, multiplying, NOT dividing though) will yield an even number as result, so n^2 - a^2 - (n-a)^2, being an even number minus 2 even numbers, is an even integer.
-
Not really "right" as such but it'l do I guess.
You needed to prove that id the first bracket was even, then so was the second (Even-even=even)
And when the first is odd, the second is odd, (Odd-odd=even)
In your reasoning, a^2 and (n-a)^2 have to be even, but odd numbers squared = odd numbers
-
BUMP!
Seeing as
A) you guys completely lost me here
B) nary (at least i think it's nary) hasn't asked his question for the best part of a month
NEW QUESTION!
In square meters, What is the volume of a single chunk in Minecraft? (assuming each block is 1m x 1m x 1m)
-
It isn't, volume is in m^3 not m^2
But it's 1m^3
-
I Meant in m^3
anyway, nope, thats the volume of one block
-
32,768m^3
-
Yes
-
Which country has the most colours on it's national flag?
GK cannot answer
-
Belize?
-
Any and all countries that have white in their flags.
-
Belize?
Yeah
-
Scientifically, I am correct.
-
Just no, white doesn't count as a colour. And no flag's white is perfect.
-
Scientifically, I am correct.
White's just an amalgamation of red, green and blue. If you look at it from a Physics point of view. The Republic of Karelia has all three, yet no white.
-
So is every other color...
Oh well. NEXT QUESTION :D
-
right
what two things can the J in J24 mean?
(i did mention this in a previous thread btw)
-
...James or Juice.
-
nope
-
Your name or Juice?

José or Juxtaposition.
-
Joe.
-
So far no one has gotten it
Also if you want to put a name, the only awnser i will accept is "your name"
nothing else
(hint hint thats one of the awnsers)
