A program that allows you to buy games and download them instantly and chat with freinds eaily with a chat system that works ingame, kinda like XFire but much easier to find new players and add them.

Xfire is copying Steam more and more.

Steam is from Valve and mainly features the online store where you can buy a lot of games. They are automatically patched when needed to. You can also add games you have outside of Steam to your games list. They will not get patched, it are just mere shortcuts, but launching them true Steam does allow you to use in-game chat, just like Xfire, but then WAY better.
