Title: Night Terrors
Post by: RpJk on October 21, 2012, 12:36:32 PM
Does anyone else experience night terrors and if so what you see in them?

This really would help me.

Isn't Night Terrors just another form of sleep paralysis? I know sleeping on your stomach can stop paralysis stuff from happening.

For some reason, these have happened to me quite a lot, lately. For me, they're not really nightmares as such- instead, after I initially go to sleep, I sometimes find myself in an uncontrollable semi-conscious state, walking around or otherwise doing something.

In other words, I can feel it happening, but I can't do anything about it.

Those are Night Terrors. What do you see in them is what I want answered.

Nope

A night terror, also known as a sleep terror, is a sleep disorder that causes extreme terror and a temporary inability to regain full consciousness. The person having the night terror wakes up suddenly, usually gasping, moaning, or screaming while waking. It is often impossible to wake up the person fully because they are so concentrated on waking, and after the terror the subject normally settles back to sleep without waking. A night terror can rarely be recalled by the subject. They typically occur during non-rapid eye movement sleep. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_terror)

Unfortunately in my case I do remember almost all night terrors I've had even though my last night terror was when i was around 14 or 13 years old, that means 5 or 6 years ago. There's the normal night terror or, in my case, night terrors + sleepwalking, which I think GoldenFox93 has too.

Many of the night terrors i had, had no apparent reason to be scary. I just had them, cried, screamed and ran away around the house from everyone. Worse, I remember everything I've done and seen: running, screaming, parents trying to calm me, etc... I just couldn't control myself. I remember once trying really hard to control myself but i ended up suffering from a lot of anxiety (unable to swallow, painful click like swallowing) and burst screaming even louder.

Here are some examples of completely ridiculous and random night terrors i had:

>For people that know Mario 64 (I hope a lot, lol) I had a night terror just because of scene of seeing a Thwomp (those large blue boxes with a face) in the clock level. Even though it feels like really funny and ridiculous it was no fun to me.
>Night terror because of another game Worms Armageddon.
>Night terror after watching the 1st and original movie of Frankenstein. It didn't scary me at all when i watched it but i still had the night terror about it.
>Night terror about a Donald Duck comic where they were basically imitating the pokemons making the creatures come to life from the cards (Yes i actually remember all these details, even the specific creatures i was thinking about during the night terror. The creatures weren't even scary, they were all cute actually)

Now less ridiculous night terrors:

>All related to when i had a fever. It was very common for me to have night terrors with a fever. In this case i do remember clearly one case where i fell asleep in the living room while watching a cartoon and when my mother came with a wet towel to put on my forehead i jumped out of the sofa and began running away from my mother fearing that she would kill me.

Now the most serious cases of night terrors:

>Unfortunately these were one of the most common and they were the worst feelings i ever had in my entire life.
Imagine yourself in a state of super ultra high anguish and anxiety, even barely able to talk or scream you wake up suddenly fearing that in a few seconds the world will end, that you will die in a matter of seconds and you see each second pass by really slowly, you have some sort of hallucination where you actually see everything from tables, chairs, the bed, the walls, the ceiling actually compressing very very slowly and painfully towards you. Basically you see the entire world slowly crumbling into you until you are crushed by everything (like you were a black hole, attracting every type of matter to you) While this is happening you are walking aimlessly around the house in complete and outer terror but without shouting or screaming or anything. From what i remember none of my family members were ever awaken during these night terrors. After several minutes i calmed down and returned to bed like nothing ever happened.

Unfortunately to me, my last (Hopefully my last) night terror was this one.

That's a lot of very personal stuff i wrote but I know that it's very rare for people to remember night terrors. I'm one of the rare ones unfortunately and i hope this helps you get pass this situation in every way possible. I just hope this doesn't give your mind new ideas for night terrors though.

For me, in the most non-scientific way I can explain it, I usually get Night Terrors when my dreams are too skewed from reality (Because dreams are something like your Memories + Your Imagination + Reality) to an extent where I can't control it at all, and therefor are usually forced to play along. Usually when I have those types of dreams, they're very horror filled, gorey, creepy and so on.

This is very helpful and ironically I've had night terrors after playing worms and Mario 64. When I had a night terror once I ran into my backyard and leaped into my swimming pool and almost drowned, it was that bad.

I'm surprised Scourge doesn't get night terrors after sleeping with GF. ;)

Wow. I think i never ever got out from the house while having night terrors. Possibly my parents have avoided that kind of situation. From what i know i never have been in real life threatening situations during these episodes. The closest i was to something serious happening was physical injuries, (falling from stairs, bumping into whatever place possible, etc...) and mental or nervous breakdowns.
