Title: Lucid Dreaming
Post by: TeamXtreemer on February 20, 2012, 01:28:22 PM
A lucid dream is any dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. The term was coined by the Dutch psychiatrist and writer Frederik (Willem) van Eeden (1860–1932).[1] In a lucid dream, the dreamer may be able to exert some degree of control over their participation within the dream or be able to manipulate their imaginary experiences in the dream environment.[2] Lucid dreams can be realistic and vivid.[3] It is shown that there are higher amounts of beta-1 frequency band (13–19 Hz) experienced by lucid dreamers, hence there is an increased amount of activity in the parietal lobes making lucid dreaming a conscious process.

Has anybody ever experienced this?

I have been able to experience this on numerous times, and if you can manipulate your dreams, you can get some cool sh** out of them.

Yeah. All the time. It's quite fun but it gets boring after a while so I just wake up.

Not that I can remember. I can distinctly remember last night's dream involving a portal on the ground, with a golden ring around it, and a purple lid with the number 12 in gold blocking it off, and a rug being held down by a "weight", a kettle and a toaster.

Lucid Dreams sound like fun, though. Is there any way to induce them manually, or do they just come along when they feel like it?

I know a lot about them but have only had one. Wish I could have more, but for the most part I can barely even remember my dreams, let alone be lucid in them.

for some reason most of my dreams don't involve me so I do realize I'm dreaming but I can't change anything.

All I seem to dream is random crap, really- and I have trouble remembering what half the time.

My subconscious is a very scary place.

Did it once. I surprised that it actually took effort to do things in the dream.

Once or twice. And it was interesting for sure.

It's kinda like being an author in it's own story.

Yes. The last one I had, I was helping at a hospital after some apocalypse had killed most of the Earth. Then I got malaria and died.

Kujii has these every night, and they always try to kill him.

You'd probably wake up right before your orgasm (or just during sex) because of how excited your mind gets, so there'd be no point.

*ruins half of people who have read this thread's plans for the night*

Well, sex in dreams probably won't feel the same as real sex (for me, anyway, I've never had it, so I'm assuming the brain doesn't know what it feels like yet), So for all I know, that could be a sex orgasm what I had already, not sure though.

I had a double lucid dream last night. First dream was where I was in a dream, and I was in my house, but there was an extra room with no lights in it, and I knew I was dreaming, so I slapped myself awake, only to wake up in another dream, that I thought was real. So, considering that in the dream it said it was 3AM, I fell asleep in the dream. Weird thing is, when I dreamed in the dream, I woke up IRL.

With a really bad headache.

I try a couple reality checks, try pushing your hand through a solid object, if you put your mind to in, you probably can, check for absurd things, flying cows, etc.

It's more a case of not even dreaming anymore.

Try to drink a hot drink before bed, that helps, or eat cheese.

I don't dream, or at least don't remember my dreams. Too bad cause they could be awesome dreams of conquest and bloodshed.

Whenever I realize I'm dreaming, I wake up. Except for this one time, I was having a nightmare where I was being chased by some kind of monster, then suddenly I realized I was dreaming, so I turned around, punched the monster in the face, and started flying around like a boss. Best dream ever.

Lucid dreaming is old hap nowadays. Self-induced sleep paralysis is far more enthralling in my opinion.
