How to deal with paranoia/fear
« on: August 15, 2014, 02:34:16 PM »
So, in recent weeks I've lost sleep. Usually staying up til 2-3. In the morning out of fear. And it's not the first time.

It always happens when I decide to dip my foot into any kind of horror media (more often than not out of curiousity) And as of late, Five nights at Freddy's has been haunting me, but The Ring and Paranormal Activity (both of which I was unwillingly "persuaded" to watch) come back from time to time. I have no idea why but I will not stop thinking about whatever it is even as I lay my head to rest.

And so I ask, whats the best way to get rid of this fear/paranoia?

Don't watch any more horror shows, for starters. Try going to sleep with white noise/rain in the background (playing on your phone through headphones.) Maybe even ASMR if you need to take your mind of it by listening to someone's voice. Hope this is helpful.

Don't be tempted to watch it. Try giving yourself something to do whenever you want to watch a show that will potentially deprive you of sleep, even if it means reading a spoiler online to make sure you don't watch it.

Oh.

It took me so long to figure out that joke, badnik.

I deal with paranoia and fear by arming my brain with insanity. I'm convinced there are enough terrible things in my memory to scare away any sort of danger that shows itself.

But really, refrain from that crap, specifically the "HURR IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU TOO" crap. Paranormal Activity and The Ring are swimming in it. I mean, you can either stay away from it or blaspheme it. There's a youtuber somewhere of which I forget the name, but he was like "Slenderman stops being funny if you imagine slenderman with a kawaii uguu anime face, or if you imagine he's just a telemarketer in the forest."

Watch The Grudge by yourself in the middle of a cold night.  The Ring and Paranormal Activity would stop being scary in no time.

Watch The Grudge by yourself in the middle of a cold night.  The Ring and Paranormal Activity would stop being scary in no time.
Additionally, go into your room or any room at the darkest hours of the night, block off any sources of light except for a reading light to read with, and make sure your surroundings are dead quiet.

Once you've done all of that, read any good Dean Koontz book in those conditions. And don't try to hide under a blanket or anything. That stuff will scare you straighter than an arrow and everything else will seem like child's play.

How's that tourney going?
How you make Alarm Clock Pizza is:
Step 1: You buy an alarm clock from the store, and then you have to break it and put it in the sauce.
Step 2: Fold the sauce in 5 slices and put it in the dough.
Step 3: Paint the eggs with a pitcher of a clock showing what time you want to wake up and eat pizza for breakfast.
Step 4: Put the eggs in the dough.
Step 5: Make it flat into a round shape and draw the time you want on it.
Step 6: Put some old steel to prevent other peple from stealing it.
Step 7: Make it flat and cut into 60 slices 1 for each minute in 1 our.
Step 8: Put in the oven set the timer to 30048813.2884 seconds and put the temperature on 'Volcano' setting.
Step 9: If you think it is take to long, then get yor alarm clock and set it to now so that it will ring and you can take it out.
Step 10: Take it out uv the uvin wen it is redy and go to bed. In the morning eat pizza and also eat yor hands bi mistake.

Don't watch it before bed d00d
I always watch Criminal Minds before bed and that gives me nightmares so I basically imagine myself beating the **** out of whatever thing is spooking me and I fall asleep a couple minutes later.
Oh I'll be doing some banging.......

Does it help to remember that it's all fake, and even the ones that claim to be "based on a true story" are anecdotal-evidence-supported bullsh**?

This doesn't work for some people.

My "knowledge", "feelings", and "experience" are 3 different things.  Knowing it's a movie does not stop me from experience a presence and feeling disturbed.

Whenever I almost sh** myself I either go to my dogs and give them a cuddle because there was this program on the telly 6 months ago saying it releases the same hormone that bonds mothers to babies, so if you have dogs, go and give them a cuddle

The second idea I have is watch a happy film/program, it will help your brain to not focus on the bad stuff

Hope that helped :)

Autosuggestion. Your will is supreme, let no one else say otherwise. And repeating mantras for courage.

Try and pick some badass quotes from the Warhammer universe. Or you can use the Dune one but it's a bit longer.

additionally, music :
