Depression.
« on: February 21, 2014, 06:43:10 PM »
Hi guys, I was recently diagnosed with mild to moderate depression, and I believe I may have had it for some time. I don't wish for this thread to be a 'boo hoo pity me' thing, but is there anyone else on here who suffers from this, or something similar? If so, what do you find best to combat it, and ultimately conquer it? Cheers.

Btw I love you all very much okay

I have been diagnosed as bi-polar, and every now and then I do have depressive spells.

My mindset just tends to be to remember that things WILL improve. It's all in the mind, just push through those times where the going gets tough and it'll be alright.

Both my carers have had it for a long time. A good trick I know that works is to look through an album if you have one, or talk about a time you didn't have depression.
Put this onto your signature if you were part of this crappy fad in '03.

I really don't want to sound rude but depression is something that is diagnosed really quickly since a few years. I'm sure if I would go to a doc I would get the same diagnoses if I told him what's going on inside of me. but yeah **** that.

Someone very close to me actually has depressions. Needs to take pills, has panick attacks at least once a day, suffers fron nightly nightmares stuff like that.

but if you really think you have mild depressions try not to make em bigger. Think positive and think of good things in life.

Better than that. Have a pet! They do marvels for people with depression. If you already have one, have more! Or interact more with your current one.

Focus Meditation with Delta Wave in Isochronic Tones (headphones are required).  Studies has shown that meditation has long lasting effects against depression and anxiety.

Simply find a comfortable sitting position, turn this on, close your eyes, and put all your mental focus onto the pulsing sounds for 15 minutes a day.  The sounds will help in blocking out the thoughts in your head and induce a trance state quicker than traditional meditation.  As with all meditation methods, it does take a bit of practice.

You will think this works, but it doesn't.  Depression has the tendency to make you stop liking the things you use to enjoy.

I would just say that: a mammal is better because you can actually really interact and it's less alien that other creatures. I mean, insects are... odd.

Though I guess a mantis is fine too for pet purposes.

Well an insect is more of a curiosity rather than an actual pet. I'm not saying that you should go find a beetle and play with it, lol.
If I'm feeling down, I won't go see my mantids unless they need food or something else. I seek for my dog or cats if I feel like it. It's a lot more comforting to be besides a pet you can interact with more.

This.

I don't imagine a mantis will wag its tail and give you a lazy smile when you scratch its favorite spot on its back. But cats and dogs, yeah. Dogs are more likely to be dopey and playful but cats can be cuter and better to hang around with for a longer time.

If you're having anxiety attacks or stress from pressure or anything like that, I have this thing that I do where you breath in for 5 seconds (breath into your lungs and your diaphragm) and then hold it for 5 seconds while clenching every muscle in your body that you can, and then slowly breath out and relax your muscles. It sounds a bit silly, but it works. You might have to do it twice or thrice to really calm down but it worked for me (I used to have anxiety attacks rather often)

I'll try this out, thank you :)

Thankfully I have two cats and a dog, and I love them to bits. I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting a response as big as this. Thanks guys, you're brilliant.

You will think this works, but it doesn't.  Depression has the tendency to make you stop liking the things you use to enjoy.

This. Also, when I get on a low 'cause I'm a bipolar ****, it tends to be for the reason that there are things that I want to do that I enjoy, but can't. Things like racing, or other stuff that I can't afford to do anymore even as a hobby. I'd never be sad at all if I could have a race car again, but the finances just won't work and they never will with the situation I'm in. That goes deeper than I'm willing to explain right now, but you get the idea behind what I'm saying.
